Before Installation
• Check compatibility of source/display devices and device
settings prior to connection and operation
• Make sure of firm cable connection to devices but do not force
connectors into ports
• Always use good quality, high speed Category 2 HDMI cables
within the transmission distance specification for devices used
– we recommend WyreStorm Express HDMI cables
• Although WyreStorm products are tested with Cat5e, we
recommend Cat6 as standard due to increased bandwidth and
improved capacity for handling large transmissions and power
along a single cable.
• This unit will auto-scale output according to EDID settings of
connected sync device. See full manual for details on how to
manually override this function.
Set-up
At source location, connect VGA (with corresponding audio input)
HDMI, HDBaseT and DisplayPort devices as required, either directly
to the rear of the SW-1001-HDBT or via a desk plate, ensuring firm
port connection using good quality cables.
NOTE: VGA audio inputs are embedded and passed with
transmissions.
If using an external microphone, connect to MIC input 1 or 2 and
adjust the input level (MIC GAIN) on the front of the unit – microphone
inputs are embedded independently over the selected video source.
Ensure the Phantom Power setting is turned ON if using a
microphone requiring 48V power and OFF If using a dynamic
microphone.
A source in a remote location up to 100m/328ft* from the SW-
1001-HDBT can be distributed and powered using HDBaseT and
POH technology in conjunction with a compatible WyreStorm PoH
transmission device to eliminate the need for mains power supply
at the remote source location. (See full manual for compatible
transmission devices)

Connect good quality, well-terminated Cat6 cable between the HDBT
or UTP OUT port of the transmission device and the HDBT IN port
of the SW-1001-HDBT and connect IR/RS232 to a control system if
used.
NOTE: Control of display device (projector/screen) from the
remote location is achieved by sending embedded commands
from the HDBaseT transmitter through SW-1001-HDBT and
passed along the HDBaseT link to the receiver at the display
location.
Output connection is via mirrored HDBaseT and HDMI, with HDMI
connection to a local display device up to 15m using High Speed
Category 2 HDMI cables from a quality brand such as WyreStorm
Express.
For HDBaseT output, connect another well terminated Cat6 cable of
no more than 100m/328ft from the HDBT OUT of SW-1001-HDBT
to the HDBT IN of a compatible PoH-enabled WyreStorm receiving
device at display location (See wyrestorm.com for compatible
receiving devices.)
A PoH-enabled receiver or compatible display device can be
remotely powered by the SW-1001-HDBT so no power outlet is
required at the receiver location.
NOTE: Optional power connectivity is available on both
transmission and receiving devices if required, for example if a
cable is too weak to carry power.
Any HDBaseT transmitter or receiver can be used but support of
features (such as PoH, serial control, Ethernet etc.) is dependent
on model. Check the specification of the TX or RX device before
installation.
Connect to a control system via RS232 or LAN as required, ensuring
RS232 connections are in place at source and display locations.
Connect a network cable from a router or Ethernet switch to the
LAN 1 port to add Ethernet to the HDBaseT transmission. Connect a
cable also to LAN 2 if controlling via a LAN enabled control system.
Audio breakout is offered as a fixed line-out or variable pre-out for
connection to power amplifiers with no in-built volume control.
Control of this function is via Web UI or command protocol for the
switch. See full manual for details
To reset IP address or auto-scaling functionality for any reason, press
to reset to default settings.
NOTE: This action cannot be undone so would require set up
to be repeated.
Connect power cable included and switch on the power at the rear of
the unit – a lit red power LED on the front panel will indicate the unit
is powered.
Wiring and Connections
HDBaseT Wiring

Operation
The SW-1001-HDBT features hot-plug detection to enable instant
switching to any source device plugged in to the rear of the unit or a
desk plate, and instant disconnection from any device unplugged. On
removing a connected device, the SW-1001-HDBT will return to the
last available active source connected.
The unit also includes CEC support to trigger an ‘ON’ command for
the sync device when connecting an active source. Disconnecting
or powering off sources instructs the sync device to turn off after a
predefined period of time – duration variable between 1min-1hour or
function can be deactivated.
(See full manual for further CEC details and customization.)
Control the SW-1001-HDBT via local push button, Web UI or RS232
using control protocols, with local source selection made by pressing
the relevant button on the front panel.
A static green LED above the input button indicates the source
selected and flashing blue STATUS LED illustrates the SW-1001-
HDBT is active and functioning correctly.
See full manual for operation using Web UI and RS232.
Troubleshooting
Regardless of manufacturer or product, the majority of installation
diculties can typically be attributed to communication problems between
devices or when high bandwidth transmissions are attempted with
insucient cable/connections. Should you nd yourself in such a situation,
refer to the following checklist of common issues and causes that should
help you shoot your way out of trouble without seeking further assistance.
No or poor quality picture
Connected and powered? Double-check all device cables and power
connections are rmly inserted into correct ports and that all devices are
powered.
Are connected sources o or outputting an unsupported resolution?
Is the scaler set to an unsupported resolution for the display device?
Check an active connected source is selected.
Check HDBaseT transmission and receiving devices are operating
normally.
Test the system - conrm local HDMI outputs are functioning correctly
using pattern timing generator and signal analyzer test equipment - we
recommend the WyreStorm TT-KIT-4K Test Kit.
Use the test equipment to send a test signal into the SW-1001-HDBT
to check for correct signal routing prior to installation.
HDMI – make sure output resolution is not higher than the supported
1200p.
LED Indication. Check red POWER LED is lit to signify unit is
powered. Check blue STATUS LED on unit is ashing to indicate correct
functionality. Check green Input LED is lit to illustrate source is selected.
No or poor quality audio
VGA Audio – if VGA audio is not embedding, check cable and ensure
devices are outputting audio.
HDMI/DisplayPort Audio – check output audio signal is supported.
If no output audio, check the level is not set to zero in Web UI or serial
protocol
Receiving device – please be advised that the use of third party
HDBaseT receiving devices is not recommended. WyreStorm PoH-
enabled receivers are preferred method of receiving transmissions but
the WyreStorm AMP-001-010 digital audio amplier can also be used for
enhanced audio connectivity at display zones.
Note: AMP-001-010 is PoH compatible as a pass-through device
only. The unit itself will require local mains power.
Cable and signal
Cable length – is the signal struggling to transmit the distance of the
HDMI or Cat5e/6 cable? Interference may be exceeding the maximum
capacity of the transmission cable distance.
Try a shorter cable run or swap out cable or device for one you know is
functioning normally to rule out faulty equipment and cable.
Signal strength – the use of cable joins, stranded patch panels, wall
outlets and stranded patch leads as interconnects between them, can
signicantly reduce signal strength. Use solid core straight, straight
through connections wherever possible.
Resolution - If no signal, reduce the resolution of the output to 720p
or 576p. If a signal appears, a bandwidth issue with the cable is the likely
cause. Check all inputs and outputs share the same resolution and make
sure the signal is being successfully transmitted the full length of the cable
run.
Picture ‘snow’/HD ‘noise’ – signies a failure to fully establish a signal
and can often be caused by poorly terminated RJ45 connectors or
excessive cable lengths on distribution devices. Ensure any category
cable used is correctly wired to 568B standards. Try swapping in sources,
displays or transmission devices known to be functioning correctly – if the
problem continues on the same output, turn o all equipment and swap
the signal carrying cables at both ends.
Cable quality and condition – HDMI cable/connectors can be easily
damaged and the quality of material can vary, especially in the lowest
price brackets. Successful transmission of video, audio and control, can
all be aected by cable and termination quality. Always use good quality
leads and cables, with RJ45 connectors wired to the 568B standard at
both ends for category cables. We recommend using WyreStorm Express
high-speed HDMI cables.
In terms of HDBaseT transmissions, Cat6 is recommended as standard
due to increased bandwidth and improved capacity for handling large
transmissions and power along a single cable.
Should transmission problems be experienced, try swapping cables/leads
for those already working to see if this improves your image to identify
cable issue as source of problem.
Blu-ray - Make sure all your equipment has been congured and
enabled to transmit and accept the signal, or is capable of passing a
signal. Are resolutions between source and display compatible and cable
adequate for the large bandwidth required by Blu-ray transmissions?
4K – is 4K equipment being used within the installation? The SW-
1001-HDBT is not 4K compatible.
