About This Component
The Central Processing Module (CPM) controls all of the
switching functions of the AD168 bay. Input/output devices
used with the system (such as PCs, system keyboards, alarms,
auxiliaries, and printers) connect to the CPM.
NOTES:
• Only one CPM is required for both single and dual
bay applications
• The CPM resides in slot Q (shown by the screening
on the front and rear bay surfaces).
• The front and rear sections of the CPM are identified
with a PURPLE color code dot.
• Avoid static discharge by using proper grounding
methods before handling circuit cards.
Receiving the Component
At the time that the AD168 system component is delivered,
verify that the shipment is complete.
Inspect the box and packing to ensure that there has been no
damage during shipment. If damage is found, notify the
shipping agency and contact your sales representative.
Unpack the component in a secure location and lay out the
individual parts in an orderly fashion.
This kit includes the CPM Replacement Instructions (this
document), and either of two CPM components:

AD168CPM-PC (CPM front module)
• AD168CPM-BP (CPM rear panel)
Required Tools and Equipment
• Small and medium Phillips head screwdriver

CPM Module Replacement
1. Before beginning any work on the CPM, upload the
AD168 system settings to the S³ system software resident
on the PC connected to the CPM.

CAUTION!
Disconnect the primary power source from the
AD168 bay before starting any work.
1. Loosen the front cover retaining screws and remove cover.
2. If this is a replacement, locate and remove the old CPM.
3. Remove the new CPM from its wrapping.
4. Hold the module by the white isolation handle with one
hand and support the card from the bottom with the other
hand. Avoid touching circuit card components.
NOTE:
• Position PURPLE color code dot at top of chassis.
5. Begin to insert the module by placing the lower end of the
card into slot Q.
6. Gently push the module until it stops.
7. Apply gentle, steady pressure to the isolation handle until
the connector moves into position in its mating receptacle.
8. Replace the front cover when service is complete.
Rear Panel Replacement
1. If this is a replacement, locate the CPM rear panel.
2. Remove the top and bottom panel retaining screws and
remove the panel from the bay.
3. Remove the new CPM rear panel from its wrapping.
4. Hold the rear panel by the connector strip with one hand
and support the attached circuit card from the bottom with
the other hand. Avoid touching circuit card components.
5. Begin to insert the rear panel by placing the lower end of
the circuit card into the appropriate slot.
6. Verify that the top of the rear panel card is also aligned
with the desired slot.
7. Gently push the rear panel into the bay until it stops.
8. Apply gentle, steady pressure to the center of the connector
strip until the rear panel moves into position.
9. Replace the screws that hold the rear panel to the chassis.
10. Connect all system control devices to the rear panel.
11. Re-connect the primary power source and verify that the
card is operating properly (if the UOP LED does not flash
after one minute, call Technical Support).
