Thebedhasbeendevelopedfordomesticcareandfeaturesa
comfortablesittingandlyingpositionforthepatient.Furthermore,
ergonomicaloperationforthecarerisensured.
Thebedisdefinedtobeusedaccordingto:

Theexpectedservicelifeofthisproductissevenyearswhenused
dailyandinaccordancewiththesafetyinstructions,maintenance
intervalsandcorrectuse,statedinthismanual.Theeffectiveservice
lifecanvaryaccordingtofrequencyandintensityofuse.
1.4Warranty
Thewarrantycoversallmaterialandproductiondefectsfortwoyears
fromthedateofdelivery,provideditcanbedemonstratedthatsuch
defectswerepresentbeforedelivery.Allmanufacturingfaultsor
defectsmustbepromptlyreported.
Invacare®mayrepairthefaultorreplacethecomponent.The
warrantyprovidedbyInvacare®doesnotcoveradditionalcosts
(transport,packaging,labour,sundryexpenses,etc.areforthe
customer’saccount).
Thewarrantydoesnotcover:

mattresssupport,siderailandbedend
Thebedmustnotbeusedbypatientsunder12years
ofage,orbypatientswithbodysizeequivalenttoan
average12yearsoldorsmaller.
Thebed,incombinationwithsiderailsmustnot
beusedforpersonsunder45kgorunder150cm
height.Eitherforpersonsthatarerestless(spasms)
orconfused,unlessaprofessionalriskassessmenthas
takenplaceandbeenaccepted.
WARNING!
Riskduetoelectromagneticinterference
Electromagneticinterferencebetweenthebedandother
electricalproductscanoccur.
Toreduceoreliminatesuchelectromagnetic
interference,increasethedistancebetweenthebed
andtheproductsorswitchthemoff.
Thismedicalbedcanbeusedtogetherwith
medicalelectricalequipmentconnectedtotheheart
(intracardially)orbloodvessels(intravascularly)provided
thatfollowingpointsarerespected:

Themedicalelectricalequipmentpowersupplycord
shouldbekeptclearoftheaccessoriesoranyother
movingpartsofthebed.

Thebedfulfilsallrequirementsregardingmaximum
distances.However,itispossiblethatpatientswithsmall
bodydimensionsslipthroughtheopeningsbetweenthe
siderailsorthroughtheopeningbetweenthesiderail
andthemattresssupport.
Payspecialattention,ifthebedisusedforthecareof
patientswithsmallbodydimensions.

Alwayslowerthebedtothelowestpositionbefore
leavingthepatientinthebedunattended.
Makesurethatthereisnothingunder,over,ornear
thebedthatcanobstructtheheightadjustment,like
forexamplefurniture,liftsorwindowframes.
Whenenteringorexitingthebed,usetheheight
adjustment.Usethebackrestassupport(yellow
buttononthehandcontrol).Thethigh-andleg
sectionmustbehorizontal,otherwisethereisariskof
overloadingthemattresssupport.
Thereisariskofentrapmentoffingersinthebed
movingparts.Payattentiontoyourfingers.
IMPORTANT!
Donotrolloverthemainscable.Donotbringmains
cableintomovingparts.
Disconnecttheplugfromthemainsbeforemoving

4.Tightenwithtwothumbscrews.
5.Retightenthetwothumbscrewsattheheadendofthetopframe.
6.Turnupthefourmattresssupportbrackets.
7.Turnthehandleofthelegsectionup.
8.PressthebracketAonthelockingring*andturnthelockingring
onthebedendstotheposition"open".

Inordertopreventthecablesfrombeingtornapartwhenactivating
themotors,followtheinstructionsbelow.
1.Connectthecablesofthebedendmotors(headandfootend)
directlytothecontrolbox.
2.Theplugofthethighmotormustbedirectedthroughtheopening
ofthesupporterforthebackrestmotorandthenbeconnected
tothecontrolbox.
3.Connectthemaincableplugtothe230Vsocket.
4.Runthemotorsofthebedendstotheirtopposition.
5.Placethemotorcableofthefootendonthehookatthefootend.
6.Runthebackresttoitstopposition.
7.Placetheheadendmotorcablesonthefourhooksatthehead
end.
8.Fastenthesafetycliptothecontrolbox.

1.Dismantlesiderailsandliftingpole.
2.Bringthebedtoitslowestpositionandadjustallmattress
supportsectionstohorizontalposition.
3.Disconnectthe230Vsupply.Rollthecableontothehookof
theheadendofthebed.
4.Disconnectallthemotorplugsfromthemotors(donot
disconnectthebackrestmotorcable).
5.Dismantlethesafetycombfromthecontrolbymeansofatool,
e.g.aflatheadedscrewdriver.
6.Pulloutthecablesofthebedendmotorsandlegsectionmotor.
7.Separatethemattresssupportfromthebedends.
8.Dividetheheadandfootendofthemattresssupport.
9.Forbedswith24Vexternalpowersupply,verifythatmainscable
isattachedtocontrolunitpowersupplycable.

Ifthebedisusedbyrestlessorconfusedpersonsorpersons
withspasms,thebedshouldbeequippedwithalockable
handcontrolunittoblockthehandcontrolfunctions.
Tiltfunction
Thebedcanbeequippedwithahandcontrol(HL84)thatactivates
thetiltofthemattresssupport.Thetiltfunctionisforuser’scomfort
whensittinginthebed.

Onlymedicallytrainedpersonsmustoperatethetilt
function.
ThetiltfunctionisNOTaTrendelenburgerfunction
andmustnotbeusedformedicaltreatment.
Whenthetiltfunctionisnotneeded,lockthetilt
functionwiththekeyEonthehandcontrolHL84.
4.2Operatingthecastorbrakes
Eachofthecastorsisprovidedwithbrakesforbothlengthwiseand
crosswiselocking.Thebrakesarefoot-operated.
Whenthebedispositionedcorrectly,atleastonecastoratthehead
endandonecastoratthefootendmustbebraked.

patientinbedorwhenusinganypositioningfunction.

Anemergencyreleaseofthebackrestorthigh/legsectioncouldbe
necessaryinthecaseofpower-ormotorfailure.

Mountinganddismounting
Thesiderailmustbemountedwiththereleasesystematthehead
endofthebed.
1.Mounting
Theforklinksonthesiderailmustbemountedaccordingto
theinstructiononthesiderail.
Tightenthesiderailwiththetwofingerscrews.
2.Dismounting
Loosenthetwofingerscrewsandremovethesteelsiderail.

1.Up:Liftandpullthetopbarofthesiderailtowardstheendwith
thelockingmechanism.
Ensure,itislockedinplace.
2.Down:Pressthereleasebuttonandpushthetopbaroftheside
railawayfromthelockingmechanism

Ifthesiderailisnotlockedproperlyitcanfalldown.
Pull/pushthetopbarofthesiderailtoensurethatthe
lockingsystemisproperlyengaged.

fallingfromthemattresssupport,itisessentialthat
theglidingshoesarecorrectlyguidedintothebedend

Mounting
CAUTION!
Makesurethatthestrapsbetweentherailsarenot
damagedorloose.
1.Mountoneendatatime.Lifttheuppersiderailbar(therelease
buttonsmustfaceup/outwards)
2.Pressthelockingpinattheendofthesiderailwithafinger.
3.Allthreeglidingshoesattheendofthebarsareguidedinto
thebedendrail,untilthelowerbarhasbeenlocked,thereby
preventingthesiderailfromfallingdown.
4.Repeatpoints2and3whenmountingtheotherendoftheside
rail.

1.Lowerthesiderail.
2.Dismountoneendatatime.Liftthelowerbar,sothatthespring
pawlisvisible.
3.Pressthespringpawlwithakeyorascrewdriver.
4.Holdthelowerbar.Lowerthesiderail,untilallthreebarsare
freeofthebedendrail.
5.Repeatpoints2to4whendismountingtheotherendoftheside
rail.
Operating
Asastandard,thesiderailscanonlybelockedintopposition.
1.Tolock/raisetoupperposition:Pullupthetopsiderailbar,
untilthelockingpinlockswithanaudibleclick
2.Toreleasetolowerposition:Liftthetopsiderailbarand
pressthetwolockingringstogetherandlowerthesiderail.

Iftheliftingpoleisusedwhilethehandlehasbeenturned
awayfromthebed,thebedcantipwhenthehandleis
used.
Positiontheliftingpoleinsuchawaythatthehandle
extendsinwardsacrossthebed.
Mounting
1.Removetheplugfromtheliftingpoletubeattheheadendofthe
bedwheretheliftingpoleistobeplaced.
2.Inserttheliftingpoleintotheliftingpoletubeandfixwiththe
thumbscrew.
Adjustingtheheightoftheliftingpolehandle
1.Loosenthecord.
2.Theliftinghandlecannowbeadjustedtothedesiredheight.
3.Pressthecordtogetherandcheckthatthecordislockedinthe
cordlockbypullingthehandle.
Thedistancebetweentheliftingpoleandthemattress
Minimum(at16cmmattress)36-59cm
Maximum(at10cmmattress)42-65cm
5.4Mattresssupportextension
Forpatients,tallerthantwometersitisrecommendedto
useamattresssupportextension.
Fittingthemattresssupportextension
1.Disassemblethebedandremovetheinserts.
2.Mountthemattresssupportextensionbetweenbothpartsofthe
mattresssupportandreassemblethebed.
5.5Mattress
WARNING!
Safetyaspectsregardingcombinationofsiderails
andmattresses:
Inordertoobtainthehighestpossiblesafetylevel,
whenusingthebedincombinationwithsiderails,it
isimportanttorespecttheminimumandmaximum
measuresformattressesstatedinthetable.
Tomitigatethepossibilityoftheusercrawlingoverthe
topofthesiderail,withtheriskofsevereinjurydue
toe.g.falling,aminimumverticaldistanceof22cm
betweenthetopofthemattressandthetopofthe
siderailaretoberespected.Themaximummattress
heightincombinationwithagivensiderailisstated
inthetable.
Topreventheadentrapmentbetweentheinside
surfaceofthesiderailandthemattress,withtherisk
ofe.g.suffocation,asafetymaximumspacehastobe
respected.Whenespeciallyverythickmattressesor
softmattresses(lowdensity)oracombinationofthese
itisimportanttofocusonthisrisk.Theminimum
width(andlength)ofmattressesincombinationwitha
givensiderailisstatedinthetable.
