2 USING CONFIGURATOR
2.1 CONFIGURATOR BAR
The Congurator Bar allows you to select between multiple
CRUdevicesthatareconnectedtothecomputeratthesame
time.Toselectaproductandcongureit,ensurethatyourCRU
deviceisconnectedtothecomputer.Iftheproductisnotvis-
ibleinthedrop-downbox,clicktheRescan buttontodetect
it.Thenclickonthedrop-downboxandchoosetheproduct.
The “Start Monitoring” button enables Congurator’s moni-
toringfunction,which willsendyouemailorSMS/Textalerts
whenaproblemwithyourdeviceisdetected.Tousethisfea-
ture,youmust set up an email account in Congurator. See
Section2.5.1.
2.2 PRODUCT TAB
The ProductTab lists status information about the selected
device.Dependingonwhetherdrivesareinsertedandthecon-
nection typeused to attach the device to the computer, the
Producttabcandisplaythermwareversionandthestatusof
theenclosure,fansinsidetheenclosure,andtheRAID(ifthere
is a RAID present).The Product tab also shows you volume
informationofanyharddrivesinsidethedevice,includingthe
amount of used storage space and individual drive tempera-
ture.
2.3 FIRMWARE TAB
TheFirmwareTab allows youtoupdate the rmware forthe
selecteddevice.
Before you can update the device’s rmware, you
mustremoveanydrivesinsertedintoyourCRUdevice
andconnectthedevicetoyourcomputerwithaUSB
2.0 cable. Always power off your device before
removing drives!
ClickCheck for Updatestobegintheprocess.Ifnoupdateis
found,the“Status”sectionwillread“Firmwareisuptodate.”

Ifanupdateisfound,anUpdatesectionwillappearonthescreen.ClickUpdate Device
Firmware. Congurator will download the updated rmware and apply it to the con-
necteddevice.
2.4 OPTIONS TAB
TheOptionsTaballowsyoutomodifythefollowingcongurationoptionsfortheselected
device.Whenyouarenishedmodifyingtheoptions,clickSave to Devicetosavethem.
Beforeyoucanmodifythefollowingcongurationoptions,youmustremoveany
drivesinsertedinto your CRUdeviceandconnect the devicetoyourcomputer
withaUSB2.0cable.Always power off your device before removing drives!
IfyouareusingWindowsXPoranearlierversionofWindowsandyouwish to
usedriveswithcapacitieslargerthan2.2terabytes,thenyouwillneedtodisable
“Supportdriveswithcapacitieslargerthan2.2terabytes”.
Configuration
Placeorremoveacheckintheboxnexttoeachoptiontoenableit.Removeacheck
fromtheboxtodisabletheoption.
• Enable 3 gigabit data throughput -Enabledbydefault.Allowstheproductto
runat3GbpsSATARevision2.0speed.
• Support drives with capacities larger than 2.2 terabytes-Enabledbydefault.
Allowsoperatingsystemstousethefullcapacityofdriveslargerthan2.2tera-
bytesonmodernoperatingsystems.Uncheckthisoptiontoallowobsoleteoper-
atingsystemslikeWindowsXP todetect the driveslarger than 2.2 terabytes.
Usabledrivecapacitywillthenbelimitedtoamaximumof2.2terabytes.
• Disable cache flushing-Forcestheoperatingsystemtostorereadorwritten
datainthedrivecache,whichmaysometimesresultinfasterdatareadspeeds,
butmaycausedata lossifthedevicelosespower.This setting shouldonlybe
enabledbyadvancedusers.
PIN
Thisfeatureallowsyoutosetafour-digitPINnumbertopreventunauthorizedRAIDcongurationofany
CRUQRor3QRRAIDdevice.ThefrontpanelinterfacewillrequireyoutoenterthePINnumberwhen
youattempttoconguretheRAIDtypeusingthefrontpanel.SettingthePINto0000disablestheoption.
FireWire Chip ID
Thiseight-digitnumberindicatestheFireWirechipIDthatthedeviceusestoconnecttothecomputervia
aFireWirecable.EachFireWiredeviceconnectedtoacomputershouldhaveauniqueIDnumbertoavoid
conicts.IfmultipleconnecteddevicesareusingthesameIDnumber,onlyonecanberecognizedbythe
computeratatime.Thisoptionallowsyoutocorrectsuchconicts.

TheAlertsSectionallowsyoutosetupConguratorsmonitoringfunction.Toenablethisfunction,clickthe
Start Monitoring buttonontheConguratorBaratthetopoftheConguratorwindow.
2.5.1 Messages
Email & SMS Tab
TheEmail&SMSTaballowsyoutoselectwhichofthefollowingwarningsand
alarmnoticationsyouwishtoreceivewhensucheventsoccur.Youmustcon-
nectanemailaccountinordertoreceivenoticationsviaemailortext,because
theSMSnoticationservicesprovidedbythemobilecarriersareemail-based.If
youhaven’talreadydoneso,clickontheSetup Tabtoconnectanemailaccount.
SupportedSMScarriersareAlltel,AT&T,BoostMobile,Cingular,Cricket,Sprint,
T-Mobile,USCellular,Verizon,andVirginMobile.
Placeacheckintheboxnexttothetypeofeventinordertoreceiveanotication
whenitoccurs:
• System Warning:Adriveexceedsthewarningtemperaturethreshold.
• System Alarm:Thedriveand/orenclosureexceedsitsalarmtemperaturethresholdorthedevice
fanfails.
• RAID Warning: TheRAIDisdegradedorrebuilding.
• RAID Alarm: TheRAIDisinvalidorhasfailed.
Tochangethetemperaturethresholds,gotoAlertsRAIDDeviceSettingsThresholds(seeSection
2.5.2).
Onceyouhaveselectedyourwarningandalarmmessages, theoptionsinside thebottomboxwill
becomeselectable,allowingyoutochoosehowyou’dliketoreceivenotications.
Check the boxnextto“Email”andenteryouremailaddresstohave messages sent to that email
address.
Checktheboxnextto“SMS/Text”andthenenteryourphonenumberandyourphone’scarriertohave
messagestextedtoyou.Yourcarrier’srateswillapplytoeachmessagesent.
Setup
TheSetupTaballowsyoutoconnectanemailaccountthatConguratorcanuse
tosendnoticationswhenwarningoralarmeventsoccur.ContactyourITadmin-
istratortoconnectanemailaddressortogettheproperSMTPsettingsforyour
account.
Onceyouhaveenteredthesettings,clicktheTest buttontosendatestmes-
sage.ClicktheSave buttontosavethesesettings.
Ifyouhavetwo-stepvericationenabledonyourmailaccount,youmustloginto
theaccountandgenerateanapp-specicpasswordforusewithCongurator.Your
accountpasswordwillnotwork.

If you are using a Gmail email address without two-step verication enabled,
Google will automatically block sign-in attempts from non-Google applications
because they are not part of the Google ecosystem, and therefore character-
izestheseapplicationsas‘lesssecure’.LogintoyourGoogleaccountviaaweb
browser and navigate to https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecure-
apps,andthenunderAccessforlesssecureapps”chooseEnable.Thenclickthe

2.5.2 RAID Device Settings
Thissectionallowsyoutomodifyandcustomizeallalarmsandtemperaturethresh-
oldsthataremeasurableinallCRUQRand3QRRAIDdevices.
Before you can modify the RAID Device Settings, you must remove any drives
insertedintoyourCRUdeviceandconnectthedeviceto yourcomputerwitha
USB2.0cable.Always power off your device before removing drives!
Buzzers Tab
TheBuzzersTaballowsyoutoenableordisableaudiblebuzzersonthedevice.
Placeacheckintheboxnexttothetypeofeventinordertotriggertheaudible
buzzerwhenitoccurs:
• System Warning: Adriveexceedsthewarningtemperaturethreshold.
• System Alarm: Thedriveand/orenclosureexceedsitsalarmtemperature
thresholdorthedevicefanfails.

Thresholds

TheLogTabcreatesarecordofeacheventthathasbeentriggered.ClicktheReset
buttontoclearallactivealertsandalerthistory.
2.6 SETTINGS TAB
TheSettingsTaballowsyoutomodifyhowConguratorbehaves.Whennished,click
Savetosavethesettings.ClicktheUse Defaults buttontoreloadthedefaultsettings.
Device Detection
Bydefault,onlyCRUdevicesareshowninthedrop-downboxontheCongurator
Bar.Removethecheckboxtoshowallstoragedevicesthataredirectlyconnectedto
yourcomputer.
