Thermo Scientific EQuan Getting Connected Guide 1
Connecting Devices to the TSQ Quantum
This guide provides procedures to connect the various components of the Thermo Fisher
Scientific EQuan system. EQuan supports configurations for the following:
•TSQ Quantum
Surveyor MS pump plus
•Thermo Pal
•Surveyor LC pump
Accela pump
Installing the Instruments and Software
You must install the following items before starting EQuan:
•TSQ Quantum
Xcalibur 2.0
QuanDevices 2.0
Note Use TSQ Quantum 1.3 (or higher) device drivers with your installation of TSQ
Quantum.

Connecting the Instruments
After installing the software, connect the instruments.
YTo connect the instruments
1. Connect the MS pump plus to any of the COM serial connections on the data system PC
(see Figure 1).
Figure 1. PC connections
2. Connect the data system PC COM1 (Figure 1) to the CTC-HTC autosampler SER1
(Figure 3 on page 4).
3. Connect the LC pump to the same Ethernet hub that the TSQ Quantum uses (Figure 1).
4. Connect the Surveyor wiring harness (the connector labeled CTC-HTC in Figure 2 on
page 3) to the CTC-HTC autosampler interface port (see Figure 3 on page 4).

5. Before connecting the green connectors on the Surveyor wiring harness to their proper
locations (Figure 3 on page 4), change the wiring on one of the green connectors (it does
not matter which one) to work with the LC pump.
a. Check that the wiring inside the green connector for the LC pump is connected to
pins 1 and 4.
b. If necessary, move the #8 wire to the #4 position. This cable will now work for the
LC pump.
c. If you are using an Accela pump, move the #8 wire to the #4 position. This cable will
now work for the Accela pump.
Summary: MS pump = #1 and #8 wire, Accela or LC pump = #1 and #4 wire.
Note Be sure to connect the MS pump plus and LC pump connectors to the correct
pump. The connectors fit in either pump, but if they are not connected to the correct
pump, the synchronization (sync) signal will not work properly.

on page 5).
7. Ensure that the wiring inside the green connector for the LC pump (Figure 2 on page 3)
is connected to pins 1 and 4. You might need to move the wires from connection 8 to
connection 4 so that the LC pump starts at the beginning of a run.
8. Ensure that the wiring inside the green connector for the MS pump plus connector
(Figure 2 on page 3) uses pins 1 and 8.

Installing the Accela pump
Instead of using the Surveyor MS pump plus for EQuan, you can install the Accela pump in
its place.
YTo install the Accela pump
1. Choose Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
2. Uninstall any programs or drivers that refer to the Surveyor MS pump plus.
3. Uninstall any program or driver with LC in its name except for the CTC-Pal and
TSQ-MS.
Note Click Help in the Thermo Pal Configuration dialog box if you are not sure
how to configure Thermo Pal. Your Thermo Fisher Scientific installation engineer
or product support engineer can also provide assistance.

4. From the QuanDevices CD, install only the LC pump driver.
5. On the same CD, locate the Accela pump driver, but do not install the driver from the
startup screen.
6. Find the setup.exe file and double-click. The Accela pump installation begins.
Make Plumbing Connections
Make plumbing connections between the CTC-HTC autosampler, the Surveyor LC, and the
TSQ Quantum.
Autosampler Valve Connections
1. Make the CTC-HTC autosampler valve connections as shown in Figure 12.

Note The installation process does not automatically install the manuals; you must
select all of the manuals and drag them to your hard drive.
Note Figure 12 and Figure 13 show two different valves that may ship with the EQuan
system. The valve in Figure 12 can be identified by the plumbing connections on the side
of the valve. The valve in Figure 13 shows plumbing connections on the front of the valve.
