Preface

Introduction

This publication provides information needed to use the 1757-FFLD,

OUNDATION Fieldbus Linking Device. The linking device serves as a link

between Fieldbus Foundation’s High Speed Ethernet (HSE) and H1 segments.

It also serves as a link between EtherNet/IP and H1 segments. The linking

device provides connectivity for F

OUNDATION Fieldbus devices to Logix

controllers, such as ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and FlexLogix.

This publication defines the Foundation Fieldbus function blocks and

function block parameters that reside in the linking device.

This publication also provides user information about the linking device’s Web

pages. The Web pages provide status and diagnostic information about the

linking device. The information found on these pages assists with configuring

and maintaining a F

OUNDATION Fieldbus system.

For information on configuring and programming a linking device in a system

with Logix controllers, see the RSFieldbus Application Guide, publication

Conventions Used in This

Manual

We use the following conventions in this manual:

Convention Meaning Example

click Click left mouse button once. (Assumes cursor is positioned on

object or selection.)

Click Browse.

double-click Click left mouse button twice in quick succession. (Assumes

cursor is positioned on object or selection.)

Double-click the H1 icon.

right-click Click right mouse button once. (Assumes cursor is positioned on

Create a Project for the

Controller

To configure and program a Logix5000 controller, use RSLogix 5000 software

to create and manage a project for the controller.

Project – The file on your workstation (or server) that

stores the logic, configuration, data, and documentation

for a controller.

• The file for the project has an .ACD extension.

• When you create a project, the project name is

the same as the name of the controller.

• The controller name is independent of the project

name. You can rename either the project name or

the controller name.

Name of the Project

If you rename the project or controller, both names are

shown.

Name of the Controller

Controller organizer – graphical overview of the

project. Use the controller organizer to navigate to the

various components of a project.

To open a folder and show its contents, either:

• Double-click the folder.

• Click the + sign.

To close a folder and hide its contents, either:

• Double-click the folder.

• Click the – sign.

Create a Project

Conventions for Names

Throughout a Logix5000 project, you define names for the different elements

of the project such as the controller, data addresses (tags), routines, I/O

modules, etc. As you enter names, follow these rules:

• must start with a letter or an underscore

• only letters, numbers, and underscores (_)

• ≤ 40 characters

• no consecutive or trailing underscores

• not case sensitive

1. Start RSLogix 5000 software.

2. Click the New button.

3. Specify the general configuration for the controller.

Some items apply to certain controllers.

a. Type of Controller

b. Major Revision of Firmware for the Controller

c. Name for the Controller

d. Chassis Size for the Controller

e. Slot Number for the Controller

f. Folder that Stores the Project

Module, Linking Device

and the Logix Blocks

To communicate with the controller, you add a bridge (local communication

module), the linking device, and then the Logix blocks. Within the I/O

Configuration folder, organize the modules into a hierarchy (tree/branch,

parent/child)

Add the Bridge Module

1. Right click on the 1756 Backplane and choose New Module.

2. Select the 1756-ENBT module and click OK.

3. Select the module revision and then OK.

4. In the following screen, add a name for the module, identify the slot,

add the IP address and then click OK.

5. At the bottom of the module properties page, click OK.

1. Repeat the New Module procedure to add the linking device to the

Ethernet connection.

2. Select the 1757-FFLD Linking Device and click OK.

Add the Logix Blocks

1. Repeat the New Module procedure to add Logix Blocks to the linking

device.

The Logix block facilitates cascading control between a ControlLogix (CLX)

environment and a fieldbus environment. The Logix block takes signals

generated in either environment and sends them to the other.

You can use the Logix block to send or receive 8 analog or 8 discrete signals

per Logix block to or from a Logix controller. You can use up to 16 Logix

blocks within a single linking device.

2. Your I/O Configuration hierarchy should look similar to this:

Configure the Linking Device and Logix Block Properties

1. Bring up the properties of the linking device.

You see the General tab.

In this tab, you can rename the linking device, add a description, set the

IP address, and select the type of electronic keying you prefer.

2. Click on the Connection tab.

In this tab, you can inhibit the module and enable a major fault on the

controller if the connection fails in Run mode.

If a fault occurs, its details appear in the Module Fault section of this tab.

3. Click on the Fieldbus tab.

In this tab, you can launch RSFieldbus to configure and program your

Fieldbus devices.

4. Click on the Module Info tab.

In this tab, you can view the module’s identification information and

module’s status. You must be online for these details to appear.

You can also reset the module in this tab.

5. Click on the Port Configuration tab.

In this tab, you can view or set the module’s port configuration. You

must be online for these details to appear.

If you make any changes in this tab, you must reset the module to

activate the changes.

6. Click on the Port Diagnostics tab.

In this tab, you can view, refresh and reset the module’s interface

counters and media counters. You must be online for these details to

appear.

1. Bring up the properties of a Logix block.

You see the General tab.

In this tab, you can rename the block, add a description and select the

type of electronic keying you prefer.

You can also enter a slot number for the block. Make certain the slot

number in the RSFieldbus block configuration matches the slot number

in the RSLogix 5000 project.

2. Click on the Connection tab.

In this tab, you can set the Requested Packet Interval (RPI) to determine

the rate at which the 1756-ENBT module queries the block.

You can also inhibit the module which immediately stops its

communication. Additionally, you can enable a major fault on the

controller if the connection fails in Run mode.

If a fault occurs, its details appear in the Module Fault section of this tab.

Launch RSFieldbus

Software

In the linking device properties, choose the Fieldbus tab and launch

RSFieldbus to configure the linking device and program your field device.
