heated liquids. Pump should only be used with liquids compatible
with pump component material.
Do not handle pump with wet hands or when standing on a wet or
damp surface or in water.
This pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and/or
grounding type attachment plug. To reduce the risk of electric
shock, be certain that it is connected to a properly grounded
grounding type receptacle.
Support pump and piping when assembling and when installed.
Failure to do so may cause piping to break, pump or motor to
fall, etc.
Do not allow children or infants to play near the fountain due to
drowning hazard.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
1. Check the pump label for proper voltage required. Do not
connect to voltage other than that shown.

interrupter (GFCI) be used in the branch circuit supplying
fountain pumps and other pond equipment.
4. To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only on portable, self-
contained fountains no larger than five feet in any dimension.
CONSULT THE PUMP INSTRUCTION SHEET ILLUSTRATIONS
FOR PROPER MAINTENANCE OF YOUR PUMP.
ASSEMBLY AND OPERATION
1. Consider the following needs of your fountain when determining
the appropriate location:
a. Enough space to create a hole approximately 10 inches
(0.25 m) deep and 36 inches (0.91 m) diameter, and will not
interfere with any buried utilities.
b. Utility needs of fountain:
i. 115 VAC/60 Hz power source within approximately
10 feet.
ii. Water source (garden hose) to periodically refill basin.
c. Existing landscape and the interaction of space.
2. Outline the basin and dig the hole for your basin (Fig. 3).
3. Place the basin in the hole and verify the following:
a. Top of basin is approximately at ground level (flush).
b. Top of basin is level in 2 directions: left to right, and front
to back. To correct non-level condition, remove basin and
spread sand in low-lying areas of hole. Replace basin and
measure again. Repeat until basin is leveled (Fig. 4).
c. Rotate basin to orient cord exit feature for expected
routing direction of pump power cord.
4. Backfill the basin. (Using stones or weight inside the basin will
help keep the basin in place during this step.) (Fig. 5).
5. Remove and clean all the debris from inside the basin.
6. The Papyrus fountain has an optional sand-fill port in its base
(Fig. 6). Turn fountain upside down, remove red plastic cap, and
pour sand into the hole. Re-install red plastic cap.
7. Screw four brackets to bottom surface of fountain (Fig. 7);
use the load bearing center column as a guide. Carefully
center column on fountain. Then, using the screws provided,
secure one bracket in each corner as shown (Fig. 8). DO NOT
ATTACH BRACKET TO THE COLUMN AT THIS TIME.
8. Place center column inside the basin, ensuring it is positioned
in the circular groove at bottom of basin, and oriented with the
feature shown in the figure (Fig. 9 and 10). Rotate the column
until it drops into place.
9. Prepare your fountain pump by following the instructions
below and illustration in Figure 1.
a. Remove pump from its carton.
b. Read the instruction sheet shipped with the pump. Pay
particular attention to all caution and warning statements.
Retain document for future reference.
c. Remove the discharge adaptor that is shipped with the pump.
d. Remove suction cup bracket from pump.
e. Thread the 2 fittings together, then thread both into the
pump’s discharge port.
f. Study the FLOW and orientation symbols on check valve
body. Then push the check valve over the fitting for a snug
fit (Fig. 1).
10. Apply lubricant to one end of the white flexible pipe (Fig. 11).

11. Push lubricated pipe end through center hole of the fountain.
(Fig. 12) Push it through so it is flush to the opposite side.
12. Slowly place fountain on center column, while routing loose end
of flexible pipe through central opening of column (Fig. 13).
13. Attach end of flexible pipe to the pump & fitting assembly (Fig.
14), while keeping the following in mind:
a. Attempt to place pump in a location that is convenient for
future access.
b. Pump should be placed on its side.
c. Ensure the horizontal orientation arrow on check valve
points vertically up after installation is complete.
14. If you are not installing the optional LED EggLites, skip to step 19.
15. Gently squeeze the cord nut into a slight oval shape (Fig. 15).
16. While holding the cord nut insert the cord and nut through the
desired location in the grate section.
17. Repeat the two steps above until the desired quantity of lights
are installed.
18. Complete the wiring of the LED EggLites by following the
instructions that are provided with the light kit.
19. To provide uniform flow around fountain edge, verify the
fountain is level in 2 directions: left to right, and front to back
(Fig. 16).
a. To correct out-of-level condition, insert shims (provided)
between fountain and support column (Fig. 17).
20. When leveling is complete, carefully screw the 4 brackets to
the column using the screws provided (Fig. 18).
21. Shims can now be broken-off flush to fountain to reduce
visibility of installed shim.
22. Install all basin grates around fountain, except the one just
above your pump.
23. Fill basin with water (Fig. 19).
24. When basin is at least ¾ full, turn the pump on. Continue filling
basin with water until both fountain and basin are full.
25. Ensure fountain is still level in both directions, and adjust if
necessary.
26. Your pump includes a flow control at the inlet. For small
adjustments to the fountain’s water flow, first turn off the pump
by disconnecting the unit from the power source. Adjust the
flow control faster (+) or slower (-) as desired. Re-connect the
pump’s power source and verify the flow, repeat as needed
until the desired flow is achieved.
27. Place the last basin grate over the pump.
28. Place decorative material on top of all basin grates (Fig. 20).
a. The small holes in each basin grate are 5/8” diameter.
Attempt to purchase decorative material, such as landscape
rock, that is slightly larger in size to prevent falling into lower
basin where pump is.
b. NOTE: to provide maximum stability of water fountain, it is
required for the decorative material to be heavy, such as
landscape rock or similar.
29. For maximum pump life, it is important the water level in basin
never drop below that which causes the pump to run dry. To
establish the frequency of refilling the basin level:
a. Monitor your basin water levels on a daily basis during the
first week. When the level gets within 1 inches of the top of
pump (Fig. 2), refill with garden hose.
b. Hot and dry conditions will cause greater evaporation, and
more frequent refilling will be required.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Disconnect the pump from the power source before
attempting to service or remove any component.
WARNING: Do not modify, cut, saw, sand, or grind any part of the
pump. Doing so can cause harmful emissions.
1. Do not allow the pump to run without water. Check basin
water levels frequently, and fill when level drops within 1 inch
of pump top. Note that hot and dry weather will cause greater
evaporation, and more frequent refilling will be required.
2. Clean fountain only with water and, if desired, use only
fountain cleaner to prevent algae. DO NOT USE BLEACH.
3. Refer to the Service section of your pump’s manual when
performing routine cleaning and maintenance.
4. Remove pump before freezing conditions exist.
TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
1. Pump is not working.
2. Pump is working but water is not flowing.
3. Water is flowing into basin when pump is off.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Check power outlet. Refer to manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Check for kinks in the tube. Make sure pump is submerged.
Make sure pump is free of debris.
3. Ensure the check valve is installed (Fig. 1).
