INSTALLATION AND TURNUP
After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If you note damage, file a claim with the carrier and
then contact ADTRAN Customer Service.
This module operates in conjunction with an ATM BCU.
This module occupies two adjacent slots in the Total Access shelf with the left most occupied slot
being odd numbered.
Pull the ejector tab into the down position and gently but firmly push the access module into the
selected access slots. Simultaneous thumb pressure at the top (above the ADTRAN logo) and at the
bottom (below the electrostatic caution symbol) of the unit will ensure a good seat of the access
module into the backplane connector. Push the ejector tab up and closed against the access module
front panel.
Upon installation, the access module will begin a self-test during which the faceplate LEDs will cycle
RED then YELLOW then GREEN. This is followed with the LEDs reflecting the true state of the
hardware. Under normal operation, an access module with the default provisioning will display
RED PORT LEDs. Once each port detects a physical link, the respective LED will illuminate GREEN.
CONNECTIONS
One 25-pair termination block, located in the lower right hand corner of the Total Access 1000, provides
the interconnect wiring for the access modules located in slots 1 through 6 of the enclosures. When
using the Quad ADSL plus POTS Access Module, the POTS signal is provided by the network and is
connected to certain pairs on the Total Access 1000 DAT termination block. The ADSL plus POTS signal
is then delivered to the customer by the other pairs on the termination block. Refer to the table below
for pair assignments. The connections are terminated by pulling out the connector, slipping the wire
through the access holes, then pushing the connectors back into place.
The incoming HDSL2 signals are connected to P2, P3, P4, P5, located below the access modules slots.

PROVISIONING
The ADMIN interface (DB-9 connector) on the Total Access 1000 DAT BCU is used to change
provisioning options, obtain access module status, and initiate tests on circuits. To access the
menus screens, connect a VT100 terminal emulation program to the craft interface port using
a standard male-to-female RS-232, DB-9 cable. Craft port settings are as follows:
9600 Baud
No parity
8 Data bits
1 Stop bit
When logging on, the user will be prompted for an account name and password. The default
account names are ADMIN, READWRITE, and READONLY in all capital letters. The factory
default password is PASSWORD in all capital letters for all default account names.
Refer to the menu tree on the reverse side to navigate each provisioning, status, and test
option.
