1. GENERAL
This practice provides installation and maintenance
information for the Quad ADSL, P/N 1179413L1,
designed for a Total Access 1000 Data Access
Terminal. Figure 1 is an illustration of this unit.
Revision History
This is the initial release of this document. Future
revisions to this document will be explained in this
paragraph.
Description
The Quad ADSL provides four ADSL interfaces in a
dual wide module for the Total Access 1000. The
four ports are configurable individually on a port-by-
port basis using Total Access 1000 standard menus.
This unit supports both G.dmt and G.lite standards
and supports upstream rates from 32-1024 kbps and
downstream rates from 32-6176 kbps in 32 kbps
increments.

LED Indication
The Quad ADSL has four front panel LEDs. Table 1
defines Front Panel LED indicators.
2. INSTALLATION
After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If
damage is found, file a claim with the carrier, then
contact ADTRAN. Refer to Warranty and Customer
Service.
Connections
The ADSL can be mounted in slots 1 to 3 of the Total
Access 1000 chassis, P/N 1179001L1. The chassis
must be equipped with the Power Supply Unit (PSU),
P/N 1179008L1, the Quad H2LIU, P/N 1179109L1,
and the ATM BCU, P/N 1179112L1. The ATM BCU
provides a front panel-mounted DB-9 connector that
supplies an RS-232 interface for connection to a
controlling terminal. The supported terminal type is
VT100 or compatible.

The Total Access 1000 shelf delivers serialized ATM
cells to the Quad ADSL via the backplane. The
ADSL signal is provided toward the customer via the
backplane connectors labeled Pair 2, Pair 4, Pair 6,
Pair 8. Table 2 defines the pin numbers for each
connector.
3. OPTIONING
Insert the Quad ADSL into the desired chassis slot
(1 to 3 of the Total Access 1000). Using the ATM
BCU RS-232 craft interface port, access the Total
Access Main Menu and select option 3, Access
Modules. Then choose the slot number of the desired
Quad ADSL unit. Once these steps have been
completed, the following options will appear in the
Quad ADSL Main Menu:
1. Configuration
2. Provisioning
3. Status
4. Alarms
5. Performance
The menu tree in Figure 2 illustrates the path to every
provisioning, performance, and test access point in the
Quad ADSL menu system.
The Configuration Screen lists the following product
information: unit name, CLEI code, part number,
serial number, product revision, and software revision.
The Provisioning Menu allows selection of card and
line service states, rate mode for the loop, data path
for the loop, and the line profiles for the Quad ADSL.
A selection is provided in the Provisioning Menu that
will reset all provisioning settings to the factory
default values. The software upload menu is used in
conjunction with the Y-modem to update the Quad
ADSL software.
The Status Screen provides link status, rate, margin,
power, and attenuation settings for each of the four
ADSL loops. The link status, up, down, and training,
on this screen corresponds with the state of the front
panel LED indicators. A circuit overview screen and
a self test results screen are also available.
The Alarm Menu provides a set of threshold registers
that allow the alarm profiles to be defined. Threshold
registers are provided for LOF, LOS, LOL, and ES.
An alarm status screen is also provided.
The Performance Menu provides link statistics and
failure history. Link history is maintained for the
previous 15 minutes, current day, and previous day.
A reset option is available for the statistics counters.
