EQKK ELECTRIC AIR HEATER
MOUNTED IN DUCTWORK
INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
INSTALLATION
1.
The circular electric heater is designed for connection to a standard
flue duct.
The heater should be fastened to the duct system by
means of self-tapping screws.
Secure the rectangular electric
heater to the ducting by means of screws or slip clamps.
2. The direction of airflow through the air heater should be as
indicated by the arrow (located on the side of the heater, at the
base of the junction box).
3.
The heater can be fitted to horizontal or vertical ducts. The terminal
box should be installed facing upwards, with a maximum
lateral rotation of 90°. The terminal box may NOT be installed facing
downwards.A heater with a rectangular heating element may not be
positioned with the terminal box facing upwards or downwards.
4. The opening to a room must be fitted with a well secured grille or
supply air diffuser serving as a safety guard to prevent physical
contact with the heating elements.
5. A text warning the user not to cover the heater should be placed
immediately near the air discharge opening.
6.
The distance from or to a duct bend, damper, filter etc. should be
equal to at least twice the duct diameter of air ducts. Otherwise there
is a risk that the airflow through the heater will be uneven, which
could cause the thermal overload protection to trip. Example: Conn.
315 mm = > min. 600 mm, conn. 400 mm => min. 800 mm etc. For a
rectangular heater, the safety distance should be equivalent to the
diagonal dimension of the duct. Example: For a 400x300 mm duct,
the safety distance is 500 mm.
7. The heaters may be insulated in accordance with existing rules
for ventilation ducts. The insulation material must be inflammable.
The isolation must not cover the lid, since the rating plate must be
visible and the lid must be removable.
8. The duct section with built-in heat element should be accessible
for exchange and inspection.
9.
The distance between the heater’s sheet metal casing and any wood
or other combustible material nearby MUST be at least 30 mm for
circular heating elements or 100 mm for rectangular elements.
10. Max. permissible ambient temperature for heaters with built-in
controls is 30 °C.
11.
The velocity of the airflow through the air heater must be at least 1.5 m/s
and the output air temperature may not exceed 40°C. Otherwise the
overheating protection will be at risk of tripping.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
1. The installationworkmust only be carried out by a qualified fitter.
2. The power supply, output and overheating protection data of the duct
air heater is specified in the wiring diagram supplied and can be
read on the rating plate on the lid of the heater.Carefully check that
the data of the air heater agrees with the power supply and control
equipment selected.
3. The air heater should be connected to the mains supply across a
fixed round cable. The cable should be rated to fit the relevant site
and ambient temperature.
4. You should not be able to switch on the current to the elements,
unless the associated fan has started first or at the same time.
5. You should not be able to switch off the current to the associated fan,
unless the current to the elements is first or at the same time
switched off. For outputs in excess of 30 kW we recommend that
the fans continue running for at least 3 minutes before they stop to
ensure that the overheating protections will not trip due to remaining
heat.
6. All-pole switching with a contact clearance of at least 3 mm must be
arranged in the fixed installation.
7. The duct heaters are fabricated toDegree of Protection IP 43.
8. The duct heaters are tested and approved by SEMKO in accordance
with the following:
LVD Directives: EN60355-1, EN60335-2-30, 1-4 and
SEMKO111 FA11982. EMC Directives: EN61000-6-2 and
EN61000-6-3.
The air heaterwith built-in controls aremanufactured in accordance
with the directives above and are tested, approved and CE marked in
accordance with EMC Directives: EN61000-6-2 and EN61000-6-3.
9. The air heater is equipped with two over heating protections (one
of which must be reset manually), designed for preventing
overheating if the airflow is too low and if a malfunction occurs in the
plant.
MAINTENANCE
No maintenance is required except a periodic performance check.
Accessing the duct air heater, such as removing the lid,may only be
done by a qualified fitter.
OVERHEATING
If the overheating protection with manual reset has tripped, the
following should be observed:
1. Switch off the current.Accessing the air heater, such as removing
the lid,may only be done by a qualified fitter.
2. Carefully determinewhy the overheating protection has tripped.
3. After you have corrected the fault, reset the heating protection.
