Introduction
C18 radio module is a plug and play add on with integrated radio reader for VAKA
systems. The communication between radio key and receiver is encrypted to
avoid interception.
The VAKA radio system communicates in the frequency 868 MHz and Axema's
radio keys have unique IDs to allow tracing in the events log. The radio key RN18-4
has four buttons that all can have different functions, for example remote opening
of doors or controlling C17 relays. The radio key RN18-1 has one button that cor-
responds to the A button on the RN18-4 Multiple C18 can be used in the same
VAKA system, but, it is recommended that each C18 uses a different radio key but-
ton.
C18 is supplied with a small quarter wave antenna which should be positioned ver-
tically for best reception. Optimal mounting of the antenna requires a small modi-
fication to the door controller's shell. For further reading distance, use the external
antenna 2-5010 with 3 m cable. If only a short reading distance is required, no
external antenna is required.
Mounting and Installation
l If the signal has to pass though an outer- or cement wall, for example,
to open a garage port, an external antenna is recommended.
l If the signal has to pass through an inside wall, for example drywall
between the entrance and the office, the quarter wave antenna is
recommended.
l If the C18 and radio key is used in an office environment, the quarter
wave antenna is recommended. Depending on the desired reading
distance, the integrated antenna may be sufficient.
l Metal boxes and other similar items interfere and may completely block the
signal. Position the antenna as far away from metal objects as possible.
