HOW TO ACE YOUR
WIFI AT HOME
(And in your cabin, too!)
A WiFi network is like a tightly run ship. Every member of
the crew—just like every piece of your network—has a job
to do. YO HO!
CAPTAIN FOR A DAY!
Internet connection: The ship’s captain and the driver of the
online experience. The more bandwidth your connection provides,
the more devices you can have online and in use simultaneously.
A bigger crew gets the work done faster!
Devices: The crew members of your ship. Your connected
technology relies on picking up wireless signals—and thus, the
speed you need—to connect to the internet, upload, download
and stream content.
Router: This is your crew’s quartermaster and the navigation expert.
Like the quartermaster in charge of steering and signals, your router
directs data between devices, and steers the devices in your home to
the wider internet via a connection to the modem. Most importantly,
your router gathers, steers and distributes WiFi signals to your devices.
STILL NEED A HAND?

Routers cast signals like light from a lighthouse.
You want that light to reach far and wide
so that every device benets from your
bandwidth. But sailing isn’t always smooth.
Walls, oors, metal objects, mirrors, furniture
and nearby electronics can impact the signal.
That’s why router placement is key.
DIRECTION IS KEY
Optimize your signal and maximize your
bandwidth! Navigate using the ACE method:
AWAY from interference causing electronics like microwaves,
windows and other obstructions.
CENTRAL locations are ideal, allowing signals to reach as far
throughout the house as possible.
ELEVATED o the oor. The strongest router signals spread out
and down. Choose a shelf, table or other raised location.
The higher, the better, in general.
