CSX Central Site CyberSwitch
Software Version UAA 7.4
June, 1999
INTRODUCTION:
This software provides the CyberSWITCH modular remote access platforms with maximum flexibility in central
site environments. It supports a wide variety of communication technologies – including ISDN (primary and
basic rate interfaces), Frame Relay, X.25 and Dedicated Services (PPP, ML-PPP). The software supports
bridging as well as IP, IPX, and AppleTalk routing standards. Security features include Device Authentication
(PAP, CHAP, Calling Line ID), User Authentication, and off-node Authentication via Radius, TACACS, ACE, or
Cabletron’s Connection Services Manager (CSM) . (CSM replaces the former SecureFast
TM
Virtual Remote
Access Manager - or SFVRA - available with previous releases).
It is recommended that one thoroughly review this release note prior to the installation or upgrade
of this product.

KNOWN RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS:
Bridging Software:
Bridge Dial-Out is not provided for IP Host (RFC 1294) devices
.
IP Routing Software:
Under very special circumstances, an IP address from the IP address pool could be assigned to
two different devices. If a device calls in with a static address that is within the WAN interface’s
subnet, and then the DHCP proxy client is enabled in manage mode and receives addresses in
the same range as the one in use by the currently connected device, another device could
connect and request an address from the IP address pool and receive the one which is in use by
the first device.
Solution:
This problem can be circumvented by proper static address configuration of remote devices and
can also be corrected by disconnecting remote device connections after enabling the DHCP
client from manage mode.
When IP Routing is disabled and you try to configure an IP address for a user, a meaningless
warning message may be displayed. Please ignore this message as the IP address will not be
used when IP Routing is disabled.
IP Dial-Out is not provided for IP broadcast packets.
Dial-Out on a Direct Host WAN interface is not supported.
When the CSX is configured to operate with IP Routing enabled and no security options, multiple
connections can be combined into a channel group only if the remote device supports PPP
Endpoint Discriminator Option.
IPX Routing Software:
Triggered RIP/SAP devices are not always learning Routes/Service.
Solution:
Configure the remote device for periodic RIP/SAP.
NetWare Link Services Protocol (NLSP) is not supported.
AppleTalk Routing Software:
Intermittently, AppleTalk routing may fail to remote devices.
Solution:
Validate that duplicate addresses do not exist in the CSX system.
AppleTalk support does not yet exist for CSM.
Frame Relay Software: (no notes)
X.25 Software: (no notes)

H0 Calls:
H0 Calls are not supported on NET5 switches.
Solution:
The initial configuration to enable H0 calls for users must be done in CFGEDIT. Subsequent
changes may be made in either Manage Mode or CFGEDIT.
Any other problems than those listed above should be reported to our Technical Support Staff. See section titled
Global Call Support
for contact information.
MEMORY USAGE:
Memory Requirements for UAA Release 7.4:
The UAA 7.4 software release requires a minimum 8 Mbytes of DRAM in the NE2000-II/4000/5000, and
32 Mbytes of DRAM in the NE7000 and CSX5500/6000/7000 platforms.
Notes:
1. The NE2000-II/4000/5000 platforms come equipped with 8 Mbytes of DRAM from the factory but
accept up to 12 Mbytes.
2. New CSX5500/6000/7000 platforms come equipped with 32 Mbytes of DRAM from the factory.
3. Older CSX6000/7000 platforms come equipped with either 8 or 32 Mbytes from the factory
depending on the date of shipment. Owing to the increased feature content, enhanced multi-protocol
support and increased connection capacity of UAA 7.4, customers planning to upgrade their existing
8 Mbyte platforms to UAA 7.4 may require a memory upgrade. Contact your Cabletron
representative for more information about 32 MByte upgrade kits.
4. The SmartSwitch 9W006 and 9W007 Remote Access Modules for the SmartSwitch 9000 come
equipped with 32 Mbytes of DRAM from the factory.
