The battery level can be checked by pulling the
trigger switch while the power tool is in a no-load
state. The battery level warning lamp lights when the
battery power is very low. If this happens, charge the

Model UC 10SFL charger
Type BCL 1015 battery
Equipped with 10.8-V lithium-ion battery (Type BCL 1015)
The newly developed Type BCL 1015 lithium-ion battery (10.8 V, 1.5 Ah) can be fully charged by the Model
UC 10SFL charger in about 40 minutes.
The Type BCL 1015 battery is equipped with the overdischarge protection circuit, overload protection circuit,
battery overheat protection circuit and voltage monitoring circuit for each cell to prevent reduction of the
battery life due to overdischarge (overuse) or overcharge (excessive charging). This battery is safe thanks
to these protection circuits.
Precautions for use of the Type BCL 1015 lithium-ion battery
The Type BCL 1015 lithium-ion battery is equipped with a protective function that automatically stops
output to extend the battery life. The motor may stop automatically in any of the following cases (1), (2) and
(3) even if the switch is depressed continuously during operation. This is because the protective function is
activated and the battery is not faulty.

types of bolts. The data below are intended for reference purposes only because actual tightening
torque may vary depending on tightening conditions and other factors. For details, please refer to “3.
Tightening torque variation” (page 12).
NOTE:
The term "tightening time" means the impact time after the lower surface of the bolt comes in contact with
the material to be tightened.
Each bolt is directly tightened into a steel plate under the following tightening conditions. Accordingly, the
torque goes up very abruptly in comparison with the actual bolt tightening conditions.

1. Safety instructions
In the interest of promoting the safest and most efficient use of the Model WH 10DL cordless impact driver
by all of our customers, it is very important that at the time of sale, the salesperson carefully ensures that
the buyer seriously recognizes the importance of the contents of the Handling Instructions, and fully
understands the meaning of the precautions listed on the Caution Plate and Name Plate attached to each
tool.
A. Handling instructions
Salespersons must be thoroughly familiar with the contents of the Handling Instructions in order to give
pertinent advice to the customer. In particular, they must have a thorough understanding of the precautions
for use of the cordless tools which are different from those of ordinary electric power tools.
(1) Before use, ensure that the battery is fully charged.
New battery is not fully charged. Even if the battery was fully charged at the factory, long periods of
inactivity, such as during shipping, cause the storage battery to lose its charge. Customers must be
instructed to fully charge the battery prior to use.
(2) When charging storage battery, use only the exclusive Model UC 10SFL charger provided with
the tool.
Because of the designed rapid-charging feature (about 40 minutes), use of other battery chargers is
hazardous.
(3) Connect the charger to an AC power outlet only.
Use of any other power source (DC outlet, fuel powered generator, etc.) will cause the charger to
overheat and burn out.
(4) Do not use any voltage increasing equipment (transformer etc.) between the power source and
the charger.
If the charger is used with voltage higher than that indicated on the unit, it will not function properly.
(5) Conduct battery charging at an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).
Special temperature sensitive devices are employed in the charger to permit rapid charging. Ensure that
customers are instructed to use the charger at the indicated ambient temperature range. At temperature
under 0°C (32°F) the thermostat will not function properly, and the storage battery may be overcharged.
At temperature over 40°C (104°F), the storage battery cannot be sufficiently charged. The optimum
temperature range is 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
(6) The battery charger should not be used continuously.
At high ambient temperature, if over three storage batteries are charged in succession, the temperature
of the coils on the transformer will rise and there is a chance that the temperature fuse inserted in the
interior of the transformer will inadvertently melt. After charging one battery, please wait about 15
minutes before charging the next battery.
(7) Do not attempt to disassemble the storage battery or the charger.
Special devices, such as a thermostat, are built into the storage battery and the charger to permit rapid
charging. Incorrect parts replacement and/or wiring will cause malfunctions which could result in fire or
other hazards. Instruct the customer to bring these units to an authorized service center in the event
repair or replacement is necessary.

(8) Disposal of the storage battery (Type BCL 1015)
Ensure that all customers understand that the Type BCL 1015 storage battery should be returned to the
Hitachi power tool sales outlet or the authorized service center when they are no longer capable of
being recharged or repaired. If thrown into a fire, the battery may explode.
B. Caution plate
(1) The following cautions are listed on the Name Plate and Caution Plate attached to the main body of the
Model WH 10DL.

2. Tightening torque inspection prior to operation
The output torque of the Model WH 10DL exceeds the appropriate tightening torque of bolts and screws as
described in “(3) Tightening torque characteristics” on page 8. Accordingly, if the tightening time is
prolonged, the output torque exceeds the appropriated tightening torque and the screws or the bolts may
be damaged or sheared off. (This phenomenon is common to all existing impact drivers.) Particularly when
tightening M6 (1/4") or smaller screws, tightening time must be kept extremely short: 0.5 second or less.
The customers should be advised to carry out several screw tightening operations and adjust the tightening
time as necessary by measuring the tightening torque with an appropriate torque wrench or driver before
commencing continuous operation.
3. Tightening torque variation
The tightening torque of the cordless impact driver or wrench may vary according to the factors described
below. Salespersons are requested to advise the customer to confirm that appropriate tightening torque is
obtained by measuring the torque with an appropriate torque wrench or torque driver at the beginning of the
tightening operations, and as necessary during the tightening operations. In addition, the torque values
shown on page 7 are useful as a handy reference, and may be utilized as tentative standards.
(1) Voltage of battery
The tightening torque is affected by the voltage output of the battery. The tightening torque decreases
as the number of bolts tightened increases. This phenomenon is caused by the decline in voltage output
of the battery due to the increasing number of bolts tightened. In particular, the tightening torque
decreases rapidly just before the overdischarge protection circuit is activated. As this phenomenon is an
inherent drawback in any cordless impact driver/wrench, salespersons are requested to ensure that the
customers are fully aware of and understand this characteristic.
Precautions for use of the lithium-ion battery
The Type BCL 1015 lithium-ion battery is equipped with a protection function that automatically stops
output to extend the battery life. The motor may stop automatically even though the switch is depressed
continuously when the remaining battery level is low (about 6 V or lower). This is because the protection
function is activated and the battery is not faulty. Charge the battery immediately in such case.
(2) Effects of low ambient temperatures
The tightening torque required may be reduced at low ambient temperature under the influence of
grease and different torque coefficients (dependent on manufacturing and finishing processes, and
specified by bolt manufacturers).
(3) Different bolt diameter
Difference in bolt diameter may cause variation of the required levels of tightening torque. Generally,
high tightening torque is required for large bolts.
(4) Different material to be tightened
When a bolt is tightened into a soft material such as aluminum, plastic, wood, etc., the tightening torque
is considerably low in comparison with the tightening torque required for tightening a bolt into a hard
material such as steel.

(5) Different tightening conditions
The tightening torque may vary according to the bolt torque coefficients (dependent on manufacturing
and finishing processes, and specified by bolt manufacturers), bolt grade and bolt length even though
the dimensions of the bolts are the same. The tightening torque may also vary depending on the surface
finishing state and the material of workpieces (steel, aluminum, etc.). In addition, the tightening torque
decreases if there is a seal packing, clearance, etc. between the workpieces.
(6) Wear and looseness of socket
With extended use, the hexagonal portion of the socket which is fitted to the head of the bolt or drill bit,
and/or hexagonal portion of the driver chuck which is fitted onto the anvil in the main body may be worn
and loose. Wear and looseness may cause a proportionate loss of tightening torque.
In addition, use of an incorrect size socket (slightly larger than the bolt being tightened) may also result
in decreased torque.
(7) Bolt and nut rotate together
The tightening torque may be considerably decreased if the bolt and the nut rotate together during the
tightening operation. The customers should be advised to carefully observe the operation and ensure
this does not occur.
4. Precautions for efficient use of charger and battery
(1) Battery may not be rechargeable immediately after use
If the storage battery is exposed to direct sunshine for an extended period, or if the temperature of the
battery is 40°C (104°F) or higher immediately after it has been used in the tool, the pilot lamp may not
light up even though the battery is connected to the Model UC 10SFL charger. This is because the
built-in thermostat functions to stop the charging when the temperature of the storage battery is 40°C
(104°F) or higher. In such a case, the customers should be advised to place the battery in a shaded
area with a good airflow, and allow sufficient cooling before recharging.
This phenomenon is common to all existing batteries which employ temperature sensitive overcharge
devices. The cooling time required before charging can be accomplished varies from a few minutes to
about 40 minutes, depending on the load, duration of use, and ambient temperature.
5. Other precautions
(1) Check for cracks or other damage on the socket
Cracks or any other faults on the socket are very hazardous. In addition, cracks or other damage to
accessories may cause loss of tightening torque efficiency. Advise the customers to check the
accessories reqularly and ensure there are no abnormalities.
(2) Socket dimensions
Be sure to use an appropriate socket that matches the bolt/nut dimensions. If the socket dimensions are
larger than the bolts or nuts, it will not only cause insufficient tightening torque but also damage the
socket easily.
(3) Lubrication of hammering section
Apply grease (Molub-Alloy 777-1) to the hammering section. Frequent or continuous use of the tool may
cause excessive temperature rise of the hammering section, resulting in depletion of grease and
subsequent increased wear of components which will, in turn, cause loss of tightening efficiency.
Accordingly, it is necessary to periodically replenish grease in the hammering section to ensure proper
lubrication of moving and sliding components.

the groove of Anvil (S) [9], then insert a small flat-blade
screwdriver into the groove at an angle.
Slide the small flat-blade screwdriver under one side of the gap

WARNING: Without fail, remove the Type BCL 1015 battery from the main body before starting
repair or maintenance work. Because the tool is cordless, if the battery is left in and the
switch is activated inadvertently, the motor will start rotating unexpectedly, which could
cause serious injury.
1. Precautions in disassembly and reassembly
The [Bold] numbers in the description below correspond to the item numbers in the Parts List and the
exploded assembly diagram of the Model WH 10DL.
1. Removal of guide sleeve (C)
By following the procedure shown in Figs. 1 to 4, remove the Retaining Ring [2], Washer (F) [3], Guide
Spring (C) [4] and Guide Sleeve (C) [5] in this order. Avoid quickly raising the Retaining Ring [2] or it may
fly out forcefully. Be sure not to lose the two Steel Balls D3.175 [8] in Anvil (S) [9].
2. Removal of the exterior parts
(1) Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver between the Front Cap [6] and the Hammer Case [7] and remove
the Front Cap [6] from the Hammer Case [7].
(2) Remove the LED Holder [33].

3. Removal of the carbon brushes
Remove the two Brush Caps [27]. Catch the flanges of the Carbon Brushes 5 x 6 x 11.5 [26] with a small
flat-blade screwdriver and remove the Carbon Brushes 5 x 6 x 11.5 [26] at both sides.
4. Removal of housing (A).(B) set
(1) Remove the nine Tapping Screws (W/Flange) D3 x 16 (Black) [28] to remove housing (B) from the
Housing (A).(B) Set [30].
(2) Remove the Hammer Case [7], hammer assembly, Ring Gear [21], Armature [22], Magnet (G) [23],
Dust Guard Fin [24] and Switch (W/Controller and Tube) [34] in a piece. Remove Pushing Button (A)
[32].
5. Disassembly of the hammer assembly
(1) Mount the hammer assembly onto the J-297 base for washer (S) (special tool). With a hand press, push
down the top of the Spindle [16] to compress the Hammer Spring [13]. In this position, remove Stopper
(A) [15] with a small flat-blade screwdriver then release the hand press.
(2) Remove the hammer assembly from the J-297 base for washer (S) and support the end surface of the
Spindle [16]. With a hand press, push down either of the raised faces of the Hammer [11] to compress
the Hammer Spring [13]. In this position, extract the two Steel Balls D5.556 [10] from the cam grooves
of the Spindle [16] and the Hammer [11] with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
(3) Slowly release the hand press and lift the Hammer [11] and Washer (S) [14] together to extract them
from the Spindle [16]. Remove the Hammer Spring [13].

6. Disassembly of the switch
Disconnect the internal wires (red and black) coming from the Brush Block [25] from the Switch
(W/Controller and Tube) [34] by unsoldering.
NOTE: Do not remove the switch and the controller from the Switch (W/Controller and Tube) [34].
7. Removal of magnet (G) and the armature and pinion set
(1) Remove Magnet (G) [23] in the "B" direction as shown below holding the Ring Gear [21] securely
because Magnet (G) [23] has a strong magnetism. Dust Guard Fin [24] and the side yoke can be easily
removed from Magnet (G) [23] by holding Magnet (G) [23] securely and pulling them in the axial
direction because they are mounted to Magnet (G) [23] magnetically.
(2) Support the Ring Gear [21] so that it does not contact the fan of the Armature and Pinion Set [22]. Push
down the tip portion of the Armature and Pinion Set [22] (pinion) to remove it.

Reassembly can be accomplished by following the disassembly procedures in reverse. However, special
attention should be given to the following items.
1. Reassembly of the power supply unit
(1) Perform wiring according to the following wiring diagram when replacing the Switch (W/Controller and
Tube) [34] and the Brush Block [25].
Solder the internal wires (red and black) coming from the Brush Block [25] to the Switch (W/Controller
and Tube) [34] paying attention to the connecting direction of the internal wires. Solder the internal
wire (black) to the M1 terminal and the internal wire (red) to the M2 terminal of the Switch
(W/Controller and Tube) [34] as shown in the following wiring diagram.
(2) Push the three internal wires that connect the switch with the controller of the Switch (W/Controller and
Tube) [34] in the groove of housing (A) so that they are not pinched.
(3) Put the internal wires connected to the LED light between the ribs of housing (A) as shown in the wiring
diagram so that they are not pinched.
(4) Fit the protrusion of the forward/reverse changeover lever of the Switch (W/Controller and Tube) [34] in
the hole of Pushing Button (A) [32] and mount it to housing (A).
NOTE:
If black oxide is adhered to the contact between the terminal support and the battery or if the
plating is peeled off, the temperature of the contact point may increase, causing malfunction of the
battery or the Model WH 10DL. In such case, replace the Switch (W/Controller and Tube) [34] with
new one.
