Photogate Brackets
ME-9806
Introduction
The Photogate Brackets set includes parts for mounting two photogates,
such as Photogate Heads (ME-9498A), on a PASCO track. The brackets
attach to the T-slots on the side of a track.
Equipment
Included equipment:

2× square nuts
2× large thumbscrews
2× small thumbscrews
Recommended equipment:
Photogate, such as a Photogate Head (ME-9498A), Smart Gate
(PS-2180), or Wireless Smart Gate (PS-3225)
Rubber Cord for IDS System (ME-8986)

Setup
Mounting the Photogate Brackets
Follow this procedure to mount each bracket on a PASCO track.
1. Loosen, but do not remove, the square nut on the large
thumbscrew.
2. Slide the nut into the T-slot at the end of the track, as shown in
Figure 1.

3. Slide the bracket along the track to the desired location.
4. Tighten the thumbscrew to secure the bracket in place.
Adding photogates
1. Remove the rod-mounting clamp from the photogate.
2. Insert a small thumbscrew through the upper slot of the bracket
and into the mounting hole in the photogate, as shown below.
NOTE: Use the shorter 3/8 inch (10 mm) thumbscrew
included with the brackets, not the longer screw included
with the photogate.

Make a rubber cord bumper
Rubber Cord (ME-8986) can be purchased separately. A length of this
cord can be used with the Photogate Brackets to create a bumper for a
cart to bounce off of.
1. Mount a bracket on each side of one end of the track. Ensure that
the brackets are aligned with each other.
2. Slide an 8 cm length of rubber cord into one of the slots on each
bracket to create a bumper. Make sure to choose slots which are
vertically aligned with each other.

Mounting a bracket at an angle
Follow these steps to mount a photogate bracket on a track at an angle
to the track other than 90°.
1. Reverse the positions of the square nut and the large thumbscrew
on the bracket.
2. Mount the bracket on the track so that the smooth side of the
bracket rests against the edge of the track. Slide the square nut into
the T-slot at the end of the track, as shown in Figure 2.
3. Adjust the bracket to the desired angle, then tighten the
thumbscrew to secure the bracket in place.
4. Use a small thumbscrew to mount the photogate to the bracket, as
shown in Figure 2.

Replacement parts
Replacements for the square nuts, large thumbscrews, and small
thumbscrews are available as part of the IDS Spares Kit (ME-9823).
