1. Introduction
OnQ offers two (2) Attenuators; P/N 364459-01 (3dB) and 364459-02(6dB). These
attenuators are used to attenuate or decrease video signals such as CATV before
entering the CATV input of a 2x6 Enhanced Video Module or the output of a
modulator before it enters the AUX input of a 2x6 Enhanced Video Module. Signals
need to be attenuated if they are too “hot”. Hot (or strong) signals can cause distor-
tion in the video distribution by overdriving the video amplifier causing it to clip. The
OnQ Attenuators reduce the signal by 3dB or 6dB respectively and also have DC
block to prevent DC transients from being distributed. This DC block also helps to
protect the attenuator from damage via incoming or propagated voltages. OnQ Attenuators can be cascaded if
more attenuation is required. Figure 1 shows an example of an attenuator.
Note: DC block is not intended to be a “surge” protector.
2. Description
OnQ Attenuators are an in-line style. The attenuator has an “F” style port for the cable in and cable out. The
attenuator has a rugged die cast case, which is solder sealed for shielding. The case measures 2” long by 1”
wide by 1/2” deep.
3. Installation
A. Determine where the attenuator is to be used. Refer to Figure 2 for the correct insertion point and
connection.
B. Use quality 75 ohm jumper cables to connect the filter into the application. If you are making the jumper
cables, use RG6 cable and appropriate connectors and tools.
Note: Since these attenuators have a DC block, care must be taken to ensure proper orientation
regarding signal flow. For example, if using to reduce the signal level of incoming cable TV, the
cable from the NID would go to the IN of the attenuator and the OUT of the attenuator would go
to the CATV input of the video amplifier.
Note: Most video problems are associated with cable connections. Proper care must be taken in
preparing and connecting the cables.
