To capture screenshots
1 In the Edit workspace, choose File
Screenshot Setup.
2 Choose Smart Capture from the Method
drop-list.
Smart Capture captures an object by auto-
detecting screen elements (buttons, menus,
window areas) as you hover over the elements
with the pointer.
3 Click the Settings button.
4 On the Activate Capture page (click the first
dot along the bottom of the dialog box), and
choose Right-click.
5 On the Options page (click the second dot
along the bottom of the dialog box), choose
Include Cursor to include the pointer in the
capture.
6 On the Destination page (click the fourth dot
along the bottom of the dialog box), choose
Open in PaintShop to add the screenshot to
PaintShop Pro as a new image.
7 In the Screenshot dialog box, click Start.
8 Set up the screen to display the area you want
to capture and right-click.
9 Hover over the screen element you want to
capture, and when it appears highlighted, click
to capture. Your screenshot appears as a new
image in PaintShop Pro.

faster to adjust gradient fills in your photos and
projects. Using the Gradient Fill tool, it’s as simple
as dragging across the canvas, a selection, or a
shape, and adjusting gradient colors and
transitions onscreen. You can customize the
gradient interactively using nodes on the
gradient arrow and see the changes in real time,
keeping your creative flow on track.

lets you quickly find the text styles you want and
apply font and stroke colors more easily. You can
customize the text toolbar to display the tools

To add a gradient
1 Choose File New.
2 In the New Image dialog box, click OK.
3 Click the Gradient Fill tool on the To ols
toolbar (grouped in a flyout with the Flood Fill
tool).
4 On the Tools Options palette, choose a
gradient type.
By default, the last gradient selected on the
Gradient page of the Material Properties
dialog box is applied.
5 Drag on the canvas to apply the gradient.
6 Do any of the following to customize the
gradient:
• To adjust the angle of the gradient, drag the
rotation handle.
• To add a color, drag a color swatch from the
Materials palette to the gradient line.
• To remove a color, drag a swatch away from
the gradient line.
• To adjust the transition between colors, drag
the swatches along the length of the gradient
line.

New! Export Edit History: The new Export Edit
History feature of lets you quickly track all edits
that you’ve performed to a specific photo or
project. You can use it to build step-by-step
tutorials, show someone how to achieve a certain
effect, or save a record of all changes for legal
documentation. A new Save session history to
text file command in the History palette captures
all session edits to a text file so you can recall
them later, or you can use the Save Edit History
command in the Image Information dialog box
for a complete edit history.

Edit History feature.
Enhanced! Support for the latest
technologies: You can use your RTS-compatible
pen tablet or device, including the Microsoft
Windows Surface family of PCs, to experience a
world of creativity that's more natural, direct and

there's no stylus driver to install, so you can get to

To save a photo’s session history
1 Open an image, and in the Edit workspace,
perform edits or corrections, or apply effects.
2 Choose View Palettes History.
3 Click the down-facing arrow at the top-right of
the History palette, and choose Save session
history to text file.
4 In the Save As dialog box, in the File name
field, type a name for the file.
5 Choose the folder in which you want to save
the file from the Save in drop-list.
6 Choose a file format from the Save as type
drop-list.
7 Click Save.
You can save a photo’s entire edit history by
choosing Image Image Information,
clicking the Edit History tab, and clicking Save
Edit History.

Smart Photo Fix: PaintShop Pro X9 makes it

Enhanced! Scripts: PaintShop Pro X9 scripts
bring the power of automation to photo editing,
reducing repetition and accelerating common or
complex photo-editing actions. You can record a
series of commands as a script that you can
playback at any time. This can save you
significant time with tedious tasks, which is
especially useful if you apply the same effect(s) to
many photos. Now you can run scripts in Silent
Mode, which suppresses any dialog boxes used in
the script, so you can apply them faster. When
you need to adjust your script, you can quickly
toggle dialog boxes back on in the Script menu. If

Text wrapping: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 makes it
easy to use text as a design element in your
creative projects. Text Wrapping lets you wrap
text inside any vector shape or selection. Simply
choose your shape or draw your selection using
any of the selection tools, and type your text. The
text automatically wraps within the shape. This is
an ideal effect for posters, scrapbooking,
brochures, collages, websites and other projects.
You can wrap text in selections (top) and vector shapes
(bottom).
Auto Selection tool: This tool lets you enclose
an image area in a bounding rectangle that
automatically detects and snaps to edge. It’s
quick and simple, and does most of the work for
you, which lets you focus on being creative.
The Auto Selection tool automatically detects and snaps
to the edges of an object area that you select.
Smart Selection Brush: This brush uses a photo
segmentation engine that lets you select objects
based on brushstrokes. Photo segmentation
collects pixels into regions that correspond to
separate surfaces, objects, or natural edges of an
object. This means that you can simply paint over
an object to select it, and you can build or reduce
the selection with additional brushstrokes. It’s a
fast, easy, and accurate way to isolate part of an
image.
You simply drag the Smart Selection Brush over an
image area to create and refine a selection.
Magic Move tool: Accelerate editing with
Magic Move, a content-aware tool that
automatically replaces the background when you
move an object or person. Simply select an area
and drag it to a new position. The empty area left
behind is automatically filled to match the
surrounding background
.
You can move people or objects with the Magic Move

Magic Fill: Magic Fill is a content-aware feature
that can make unwanted elements of your photos
vanish. Use your favorite selection tools to select
an area or object that you want to remove and
apply Magic Fill to replace the selection with a
background that matches the surrounding area
— even when the surrounding area is textured or
varied.
You can make parts of a photo disappear with Magic Fill.
Shape Cutter and Text Cutter: You can use
vector shapes, such as Preset Shapes, to create
cutouts that are filled with the background
imagery. The effect is similar to using a clipping
mask, except the cutout object is created as a
new file with a transparent background—perfect
for collage, scrapbook, or other creative photo
projects.

HDR processing: PaintShop Pro lets you explore
HDR (High Dynamic Range) processing—a
method that combines multiple photos of the
same scene, shot at different exposures. HDR lets
you access a broader tonal range to create a final
image that can be breathtaking. PaintShop Pro
includes
Exposure Merge, for a full processing
control, Batch Merge, for processing multiple
HDR sets at one time, and an HDR effect, Single
RAW Photo, that simulates an HDR effect using
only one RAW photo.
Exposure Merge uses a three-step process:
• Merge — choose merge settings, apply
custom editing to photos
• HDR Adjustments — make adjustments to
merged HDR image
• Fine-Tune — refine the HDR image, reduce
noise, sharpen, etc.
You choose merge settings, make custom edits, and
preview the merged alignment during the first step of
Exposure Merge.
You can manually adjust the resultant HDR image or
apply a preset during the second step of Exposure Merge.
You can apply photo fixes, color and contrast corrections,
remove noise, and more during the final step of Exposure
Merge.
