SERVICE ACTIVATION
If you are a new T-Mobile
®
customer and
your service has not been activated, simply
call Customer Care at 1-800-937-8997
from your landline phone and a T-Mobile
Activations representative will assist you.
You will need the following information when
activating service:
n
Service Agreement and agent code on
your Agreement
n
Your name, home address, home phone,
and billing address
Note: For business and government accounts, please
provide the name of your company or government
agency, address, and tax ID.
n
Your Social Security number, current
driver’s license number, and date of birth
for credit check purposes
n
Your choice of T-Mobile rate plan and
services (see www.t-mobile.com for
latest plan information)
n
SIM serial number and IMEI number
(located on the box bar code label)
By activating service, you acknowledge that you have read,
understand, and agree to be bound by each of T-Mobile’s
Terms and Conditions and your Service Agreement.

SIM CARD
Your Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card
identies you to the wireless network. Your
phone will not work without the SIM card.
To insert the SIM card and battery:
1. Detach your SIM card.
2. Place your ngernail in the cover
release slot on the bottom of the phone.
Pull the cover away from the phone.

MEMORY CARD
Your phone ships with a microSD memory
card (pre-inserted).
Insert the memory card
1. Remove the back battery cover.
2. Slide the memory card into the
slot as shown and press in until
the card clicks into place.
3. Replace the battery cover.
Remove the memory card
Remove the back battery cover and gently
slide the memory card out of the slot.
3. Remove the battery. Slide the SIM
card into the SIM card slot as shown.
4. Align the gold contacts on the battery
with the contacts in the battery
compartment. Push the battery into
place and replace the battery cover.

BATTERY
Charge battery
Insert the small end of the charging or USB
cable into the port on the left side of your
phone. Plug the other end of the cable into a
wall outlet or USB port on your computer.
Use the Battery Manager
The Battery Manager helps you save battery
power by allowing you to set the data trafc
timeout and display brightness during peak
and off-peak hours of the day.
To change battery prole:
1. From any Home screen,
tap the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Battery Manager.
4. Tap Battery mode.
5. Tap the radio button next to
one of the following options:
n
Maximum battery saver: Data
timeout and auto brightness are
turned on, but are not manually
congurable. This setting
maximizes battery savings.
n
Nighttime saver: Data
timeout and auto brightness
are turned off during the day
and turned on at night.
n
Performance mode: Data timeout
and auto brightness are turned off.
This is the default battery prole.
n
Custom battery saver: Data
timeout and auto brightness
are turned on. This mode
allows manual conguration of
different data timeout and display
brightness settings during peak
and off-peak times of the day.

More tips to conserve battery life

Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
®
when not in use. To turn off:
1. From any Home screen,
tap the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Wireless & networks.
4. Tap to clear the check box for the
services you want to turn off.
n
Quick-press the Power key to
lock and dim the screen.
n
Turn off GPS satellites when
not in use. To turn off:
1. From any Home screen,
tap the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Location & security.
4. Tap Use GPS satellites to clear
the check box and turn off.
To change Custom battery saver
prole options:
1. From any Home screen,
tap the Menu key.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Battery Manager.
4. Tap Battery mode.
5. Tap the Custom battery
saver radio button.
6. Read the message and tap OK.
7. Tap the Settings icon to the right
of Custom battery saver.
8. Tap the following options to
edit the settings as desired:

Touch and slide the slider left or

POWER
Press and hold the Power/Lock key on the
top of the phone to turn it on or off.
Unlock the screen
1. Quickly press the Power key
on top of the phone.
2. Touch and slide the Lock
icon to the right.
MOTOBLUR ACCOUNT
Before using your phone, you must rst
create a MOTOBLUR account.
MOTOBLUR syncs contacts, posts, feeds,
messages, e-mails, photos and much
more—from sources like Facebook,
Twitter, MySpace, Gmail™, your work
e-mail, Picasa, Photobucket.
Once created, you can also log into this
account by visiting www.motorola.com/
mymotoblur to upload contacts, reset
your password, get help, or even locate
your phone.
For help managing your accounts, see the Social
Networking section in this guide.
Create a MOTOBLUR account
1. Select a language.
2. Tap Start.
3. Tap Register a new account.
4. Tap Next.
5. Read the MOTOBLUR
Terms of Service.
6. Tap the I agree check
box and tap Next.
7. Enter your rst and last
name and tap Next.
8. Enter the e-mail address where
MOTOBLUR can send account
information and tap Next.
9. Enter a new MOTOBLUR
account password.
10. Re-enter the password and tap Next.
11. Verify the information is
correct and tap Conrm.
12. When account creation is
complete, tap Next and Next.
13. Tap Create if you do not have a
Google™ account. If you have a
Google account, tap Sign in and
enter your logon information.
14. Enter your rst name, last name,
and the username you want for your
Google account and tap Next.

15. Enter a password for your
Google account.
16. Re-enter your Google
password and tap Next.
17. Tap the Security question drop-
down and tap the desired question.
18. Enter the answer.
19. If desired, enter a secondary
e-mail address and tap Create.
20. Tap I agree, Next.
21. Tap Next.
22. Enter the security characters
and tap Next.
23. Tap Next again to back up data
with your new Google account.
24. Tap Finish Setup.
25. Tap Next.
26. Tap Done.
Congratulations on creating your new MOTOBLUR
account! Now you are ready to make calls or
continue on with this guide to learn more about
your phone.
HOME SCREEN
Your Home screen is wider than you’d think.
Simply swipe your nger to the left or right to
view any of the seven screens.
You can customize each screen with widgets,
shortcuts to your favorite applications, or
folders that contain shortcuts and les.

Shortcuts
The shortcuts on your Home screens
allow you to quickly access your favorite
applications.
See the Personalize Home Screen section
of this guide for more information on how to
add and delete shortcuts.
Notification drawer
The Notication Drawer runs across the top
of your screen. Icons appear to let you know
when information is waiting for you. To open,
touch and hold the Notication Drawer and
drag down the screen.
Widgets
Widgets bring the content you want right to
your Home page. Weather, news, messages,
and updates from your social networking
contacts are pushed to your widgets as the
updates happen.
Social Status widget
Tap this widget on the Home screen to
display your most recent status updates to
your social networks. You can then update
your status on one or all of your linked social
networks.
Messages widget
Tap this widget on the Home screen to
display your recently received text messages,
e-mails, and social networking direct
messages. Swipe your nger left or right to
scroll through multiple messages or tap the
title bar to see the full list.
Happenings widget
Tap this widget on the Home screen to
display the most recent status updates,
photos, and other items posted by your
social networking contacts. Swipe your
nger left or right to scroll through multiple
happenings or tap the title bar to see the full
list.
Touch and slide
the drawer down
with your nger.
Tap the desired
Notier icon.

Application Tray
While on the center Home screen, tap the
Home key, or from any Home screen tap
the Application Tray icon to open the
Application Tray.
Touch and slide your nger up or down the
screen to scroll through your applications.
Applications are in alphabetical order.
PERSONALIZE HOME SCREEN
Swipe left or right to access other panels of
your Home screen.
Add widgets to Home screen
1. From any Home screen, touch and
hold an empty space until you see
the Add to Home screen menu.
2. Tap Motorola widgets or
Android widgets.
3. Tap the widget.
4. If necessary, complete additional
setup steps and tap Done.
Resize widgets
Many widgets can be resized so you can
customize them to take up as much or as
little space on your Home screens as you
like.
1. From any Home screen, touch and
hold the widget you want to resize.
2. Remove your nger from the
screen to see the arrows at
each corner of the widget.
3. Touch and drag a corner of the
widget to the desired size and lift
your nger from the screen.
Create shortcuts on the Home screen
1. Swipe to the Home screen where
you want to place the application.
2. Tap the Application Tray icon.
3. Touch and hold the
desired application.
4. Drag the Application icon to
the desired location and release
your nger from the screen.

Arrange widgets and shortcuts
1. From the Home screen, touch and
hold the widget or shortcut you want
to move.
2. Drag the widget or shortcut to
the desired location and release
your nger from the screen.
Delete widgets and shortcuts
1. From the Home screen, touch and
hold the widget or shortcut
you want to delete.
2. Drag the widget or shortcut
to the Trash icon and release
your nger from the screen.
Change wallpapers
1. From any Home screen, touch and
hold an empty space until you see
the Add to Home screen menu.
2. Tap Wallpapers.
3. Tap one of the following:
n
Wallpaper Download: Tap
to open the browser and
download new wallpapers.
n
Live wallpapers: Tap the desired
animated wallpaper.
n
Media gallery: Tap to view
a picture. Touch inside the
frame and drag to the desired
location. Touch and drag
the frame to adjust the crop
box. Tap Save when done.
n
Wallpapers: Touch and drag to
scroll through the wallpapers.
Tap Set wallpaper.
Create folders on the Home screen
1. From any Home screen, touch and
hold an empty space until you see
the Add to Home screen menu.
2. Tap Folders.
3. Tap New folder.
4. Tap to open the new folder.
5. Touch and hold the top bar
to rename the folder.
6. Enter a name for your folder.
7. Tap OK when done.
Add shortcuts to a folder
1. From the Home screen, touch
and hold the shortcut you
want to add to a folder.
2. Drag the shortcut and drop
on top of the folder.
Note: You cannot move widgets into folders

SOCIAL NETWORKING
Your phone automatically delivers and
organizes your conversations, friends and
favorite content from your selected sources
directly to your phone in easy-to-manage
streams.
It syncs contacts, posts, feeds, messages,
e-mails, photos and much more—from
sources like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace,
Gmail, Yahoo!
®
, your work e-mail, Picasa,
Photobucket, Last.fm
®
—and automatically
serves it up just the way you want it. No
opening and closing apps and menus, it’s all
front and center on your Home screen and
integrated throughout the entire phone so
you can communicate anyway you like.
Add accounts
You can add your Facebook, MySpace,
Twitter, or other accounts to your phone any
time. To set up social networking accounts,
visit their respective social networking Web
sites.
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Accounts.
3. Tap Add account.
4. Tap the icon for the desired account.
5. Enter your login information.
6. Tap Next.
7. Tap Done.
View accounts
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Accounts.
Delete accounts
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Accounts.
3. Tap the account you want to delete.
4. Tap Remove account.
5. Tap Yes to conrm.
Update your status
You can update and see your current status
in the Social Status widget on your Home
screen. To update:
1. From the Home screen, tap the
Social Status widget.
2. Enter your status.
If you have more than one account,
you can use the drop-down menu to
limit which accounts are updated.
3. Tap Post.

If you don’t see a Social Status widget,
swipe your Home screen left or right to check
all panels. To add the Social Status widget:
1. From any Home screen, touch and
hold an empty space until you see
the Add to Home screen menu.
2. Tap Motorola Widgets.
3. Tap Social Status. The widget will
appear in the empty spot and will
show your status the next time your
phone updates from the network.
CONTACTS
There are several important things to know
when managing contacts on your phone:
n
New contacts are saved in the
phone’s memory and also in your
account at
www.motorola.com/
mymotoblur
.
n
If you edit one of your social
networking contacts on the Web
site, your changes will be
synchronized between the
MOTOBLUR Web site and your
phone.
n
You cannot save new contacts
to your SIM card.
Add contacts using your phone
1. From any Home screen, tap
the blue Contacts icon.
2. If needed, tap OK at the
Welcome screen.
3. Tap the green Plus icon.
4. Enter the contact’s name.
5. Tap the green Plus icon
next to Phone and enter the
contact’s phone number.
6. Enter additional information, if desired.
7. Tap Save when done.
Call contacts
1. From any Home screen, tap
the blue Contacts icon.
2. Open the keypad and enter the
contact’s name. As you type, a list
of possible matches displays.
3. Tap the desired contact.
4. Tap the desired phone number to call.
Link contacts
If one of your contacts is stored in multiple
social networking sites, it may result in
duplicate entries. You can easily link a
contact’s multiple entries into one.
1. From any Home screen, tap
the blue Contacts icon.

2. Tap the contact entry you want to link.
3. Tap the Menu key.
4. Tap Link contact.
5. Scroll to and tap the contact entry
you want to link with previous entry.
Filter contacts
To view where a contact is stored, such
as on Facebook, you can easily lter your
contacts.
1. While in your contact list, tap Contacts
in the top left corner of
the screen.
2. Tap All contacts, Facebook,
Google, or another linked account.
Contact list views
You have three options for viewing contacts
in your contact list. Swipe left and right to
access the following views:
n
History view
To view the contacts you have sent
or received messages to or from,
beginning with the most recent.
n
A-Z view
To view all your contacts in
alphabetical order.
n
Status view
To view your contacts’ status
updates, beginning with the most
recent.
Manage SIM card contacts
To move contacts to / from SIM /
phone:
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Manage SIM Card.
3. Tap Import SIM card or
Export Contacts.
4. Tap Select All or tap the
contact(s) to select.
5. Tap Import or Export.
6. Tap OK.
7. Tap OK again when the
import is done.
To delete contacts from SIM:
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Manage SIM Card.
3. Tap Delete Contacts.
4. Tap Select All or tap the
contact(s) to select.
5. Tap Delete.

6. Tap OK.
7. Tap OK again.
CALLING
Make and end calls
1. From any Home screen, tap
the green Phone icon.
2. Enter the number and tap Call.
3. To end the call, tap End call.
Answer calls
Tap Answer. When the screen is locked,
touch Stretch to Answer and slide your
nger to the right.
Wi-Fi Calling
Wi-Fi Calling can improve your coverage,
and lets you have conversations and send
messages over your Wi-Fi network (when
Wi-Fi network is available).
To stay on a Wi-Fi call, remain in range of the
Wi-Fi network. Your call will drop as you leave
the Wi-Fi range. You will get an audible beep
and a message on your phone letting you
know when a call will drop as you leave the
Wi-Fi range.
Your phone offers three connection options.
See Change connection preferences section
in this guide for more information on how to
change connection options on your phone.
n
Wi-Fi Preferred: With this option,
all calls will go through Wi-Fi when
connected to a Wi-Fi network. Calls will
drop as you leave the Wi-Fi range.
n
Cellular Preferred: With this
option, you can make calls over
the cellular network, and Wi-Fi
Calling can be used as a back up if
cellular network is not available.
n
Wi-Fi Only: With this option, calls can
be made when connected to a Wi-Fi
network. If there is no Wi-Fi network,
then your calls will not connect.
Note: Wi-Fi Calling minutes count the same as
cellular calling minutes on your phone bill.
To view the tutorial:
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
3. Tap View Tutorial.
To view the tutorial at a later time, from any Home
screen tap the Application Tray icon > Wi-Fi
Calling > tap the Menu key > Help > Tutorial.

To save an in-range Wi-Fi network:
Note: If the Wi-Fi radio is already turned on, turn it
off before adding a new network. See To turn Wi-Fi
radio on / off on page 33.
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
3. Tap Wi-Fi settings.
4. Select the Wi-Fi check box.
5. Tap the network you want to add.
6. If necessary, enter the password.
7. Tap Connect.
8. Tap the Back key.
9. When the Wi-Fi
connection is
successful, the Wi-Fi
Calling screen will say
Ready! and the Wi-Fi
Calling icon appears
on the Status bar.
10. You can now make calls
and send messages
as you would normally.
As long as the Wi-Fi
Calling icon remains
on the Status bar, you
are communicating
over Wi-Fi.
IMPORTANT: To stay on a Wi-Fi call, remain
in the range of the Wi-Fi network. You’ll get
an audible beep and screen message letting
you know when a call may drop as you leave
the Wi-Fi range.
To save an out-of-range Wi-Fi
network:
Note: If the Wi-Fi radio is already turned on, turn it
off before adding a new network. See To turn Wi-Fi
radio on / off on page 33.
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
3. Tap Wi-Fi Settings.
4. Tap to select the Wi-Fi check
box to turn Wi-Fi on.
5. Scroll to the bottom and tap
Add Wi-Fi network.
6. Enter the Network SSID.
7. Tap the Security drop-down menu
and tap the network security type.
8. If necessary, enter the password.
9. Tap Save.

To change connection preferences:
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
3. Tap the Menu key.
4. Tap Settings.
5. Tap Connection preferences.
6. Tap one of the following options:
n
Wi-Fi Preferred
n
Cellular Preferred
n
Wi-Fi Only
7. Tap OK.
To turn Wi-Fi Calling on / off:
1. While the Wi-Fi radio is turned
on, from any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
3. Touch and slide the bar at the
bottom of the screen left to
turn off or right to turn on.
When Wi-Fi Calling is set to Off, the Wi-Fi radio may
still be turned on. When Wi-Fi Calling is Off, phone
calls will not connect using Wi-Fi. Use this setting
when you may travel in and out of range of your
saved Wi-Fi network(s).
To turn Wi-Fi radio on / off:
1. From any Home screen, tap
the Application Tray icon.
2. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
3. Tap the Menu key.
4. Tap Settings.
5. Tap Wi-Fi settings.
6. Tap to clear the Wi-Fi check box.
VOLUME
Use mute and speakerphone
While on a call, tap Mute or Speaker. Tap
Mute or Speaker again to turn off.
Adjust call volume
While on a call, press the Volume key up or
down to adjust the call volume.
Adjust ringer volume
From any Home screen, press the Volume
key up or down to adjust the ringer volume.
