Phase (L) 14 -
Zero (N) 13 -
Circulation pump 22 max. 8 (2) A 230 V ac

Electrical connections
Electrical connections to the controller
are made using terminal boards with
screw terminals.
Up to 3 x 1.5 mm
2
or corresponding can
be connected to each terminal. The
terminals are coded so that units on
mains voltage cannot be connected on
the sensor side.
Wire cross section: 0,75-1,5 mm
2
Wire length: Maximum 50 meter
Connection of temperature sensors, etc. - safety voltage (terminals 1-12)
The installation of sensors and remote controls is described in the associated product
instructions.
ECL 3250 must be connected to the following sensors:
Type Terminal
Outdoor temperature sensor ESMT 11-12
Flow temperature sensor ESMA/C/U 8-9
Hot water service sensor ESMB/U 7-9
ECL 3250 is now able to control the flow temperature in relation to the outdoor
temperature. ECL 3250 also controls the hot water service temperature.
In addition, the following sensors and remote control units can be connected:
Type Terminal
Room temperature sensor ESMR 4-5
Remote control unit with built-in ESMF-3 or
3-4
room sensor ESMF-10
Control panel ECA 9020 with clock
optimiser and room sensor. The control
ECA 9020 1-2
panel will also show actual and
calculated system temperatures
Note! Cable resistance might produce an incorrect measurement. A resistance of 4
Ohm corresponds to a deviation of 1 degree.

Control settings c) Function switch
Burner and circulation pumps
stopped, but system frost-protected.
Hot water service heating still
possible.
Time program overridden and
constant control in accordance with
reduced temperature.
Automatic changeover between
normal and reduced temperature as
set on clock.
Time program overridden and
constant control in accordance with
normal temperature.
Manual operation
All control functions are off and
burner controlled exclusively by
boiler thermostat. Hot water service
still provided. Test of controller and
sensors.
d) User guide
e) Indication light
The indication light shows:
- The controller is on operation
- Possible faults (test result).
User settings
a) Program clock
b) Temperature setting
c) Function switch
d) User guide
e) Indication light
a) Program clock
The program clock is set in the required
normal and reduced temperature periods
by pushing riders for reduced
temperature setting towards the center of
the clock.
b) Temperature setting
The flow temperature of the heating
circuit can be increased and reduced by
turning the temperature setting knob
(parallel displacement). Turning towards
+8 increases the flow temperature.
Standard setting is 0.
The maximum setting of +8 corresponds
to a possible increase of room
temperature of approx. 8 degrees.
With ESMR/F connected, the flow
temperature is reduced when the set
max. room temperature limit is
exceeded.
This limit is factory-set at 22 °C, however
displaceable by ±3 and ±10 degrees,
respectively
The best heating economy can be
achieved at the lowest possible flow
temperature and by using radiator
thermostats.

–25 °C 1.2 0.7
–15 °C 1.6 0.9
–10 °C 1.8 1.0
f) Setting heat curve slope
Heat curve slope can be set
independently within 0.2-3.4. The heat
curve factory setting is 2.0.
If a satisfactory room temperature cannot
be obtained when the outdoor
temperature is less than +5 °C, the slope
can be increased by turning knob f). The
heat curve can be parallel-displaced
using knob b).
Examples of heat curve settings
*Outdoor temperature for sizing. Normally the lowest
occurring outdoor temperature of the heating season
is used.
BC-HSP VI.73.K1.02 Danfoss 6/92 7
g) Min. boiler temperature
The boiler temperature can be set within
a range of 10-70 °C. The factory setting
is 10 °C, however, the min. allowable
boiler temperature is to be set according
to the boiler manufactorer instructions.
h) Boiler temperature difference
Fixed difference
Set the fixed difference between the start
and stop temperatures within the range
2-20 K.
Automatic difference (AUTO)
Set potentiometer in position AUTO and
start and stop temperature will be
automatically adapted to the boiler type
and system load. This function is suitable
for low thermal capacity boilers (reduces
the start/stop frequency). The factory
setting is 12 K, however the setting is to
follow the boiler manufactorer instruc-
tions.
h) Setting reduced temperature level
The reduced temperature level can be
set at a fixed value (1-8) or at an
outdoor-temperature-dependent value
(AUTO). The basic setting for reduced
temperature is 5. Each graduation on the
scale corresponds to about 1 degree in
the room.
Reduced temperature
The scale shows room temperature drop
during reduced temperature period.
Different settings are given (–2, –4, –6,
–8 and AUTO).
If no room sensor is used, the control
calculates the parallel displacement to
give the set room temperature drop.
j) Setting the hot water service
temperature
The hot water service temperature can
be set with potentiometer j) within
30-70 °C.
The basic setting is 50 °C.
Time control of hot water service circuit
A 2-channel digital clock or a control
panel ECA 9020 - channel 3 can time
control the hot water service circuit. The
hot water service temperature is reduced
to 10 °C at reduced operation.

Function test
The indicator light shows whether
ECL 3250 is in operation or not. More-
over the indication shows possible faults
when testing sensors and controller.
Test of controller and sensors
ECL 3250 can test both the controller
and the sensors. Turn the function switch
in position .
No light
The controller is defect or the flow
temperature sensor is not mounted.
Constant light with 1, 2, 3 or 4 intervals
The number of intervals must correspond
to the number of connected sensors. If
the number is not correct one or several
sensors might be shortcircuited or
disconnected.
Constant light
The controller is defect.

Mounting
On wall
Use a standard or a special base plate
with wall case for mounting 3250 on wall.
The plate is fixed on a flat surface with
two 4 mm screws (standard) or three 4
mm screws (special). Be aware of the
"UP"-arrow.
Then wire the ECL 3250 as described in
the paragraph "Wiring".
The controller is mounted in the base
plate (when using the special base plate,
note that the controller is first of all to be
fit into the wall case) and screw up the
center screw behind the cover plate.
In the front plate
ECL 3250 can be built into a boiler front
plate. The opening is to measure 92 x
138 mm and the plate is to be max. 3
mm thick.
Fix four retainer springs on the controller,
push it gently into the opening and the
springs will secure the controller in the
opening. The retainer springs are
delivered as accessories together with 2
terminal strips.
Wire the ECL 3250 to the two terminal
strips and then mount them in the
controller. The terminal strips are
encoded to prevent exchange by mis-
take.
On a DIN-rail
ECL 3250 can be mounted on a 35 mm
DIN-rail. Fix a spring -
delivered as accessory - on the base
plate bottom and then mount the base
plate on the DIN-rail.

On wall or on DIN-rail
Several controllers in parallel
Dismantling
If the controller is mounted in a front
plate, dismount it by pressing the retainer
springs together and dismount the built-
in controller.
Tip out the controller when the retainer
springs are not accessible.
12 VI.73.K1.02 Danfoss 6/92 BC-HSP
Clock
When the clock is not mounted remove
the glass cover, the inside cover and the
clock cover and then mount the clock.
Open the glass cover all the way to the
left - the taps will then slide out. The
inside cover is tipped out and the clock
cover is unscrewed.
Then the clock is placed in the center of
the opening with the plugs downwards.
Fasten the clock with the screws.
Clock dismounting
Remove the screws and dismount the
clock by gently tipping it out.
External time control
An external control panel ECA 9020 can
time control ECL 3250. ECA 9020 is
connected to the bus terminals on the
rear of the ECL controller (see wiring).
