8/10-Series PVS Install Instructions
Applies to: 8/10-Series PVS
Tools Required*:
#2 Phillips Screwdriver
5mm Allen Key
*Please note that some additional tools will be required for HDMI cable routing.
Route the HDMI cable through the machine, before beginning the PVS installation.

Please note that while the images below show a PVS installation onto a treadmill, the steps are
valid for ALL units.
1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws
securing the front of the console to the console
rear shroud. Take note of console connections,
disconnect wiring from mast to console, and
remove console front.
TECH TIP: Take a picture of the connections
before removing them.
2. Use a #2 phillips screwdriver to remove the two
(2) screws securing the top cover to the upper
inside rear shroud, then remove the top cover.
Save the screws for use in connecting the new
PVS top cover in Step 4.
3. Slide the console top cover onto the PVS bracket.

4. Use a 5mm allen key to secure the PVS bracket
to the console mast using four (4) M8 x 20mm
screws. Connect black/white power cable from
mast to red/black cable from the PVS bracket
then connect the male 3.5mm audio jack
from the mast to the female 3.5mm audio jack
extension from the PVS bracket. Finally, connect
the coax cable from the mast to the coax cable
from the PVS bracket and use a #2 phillips
screwdriver to secure the PVS top cover to the
console rear shroud.
5. Slide the PVS bracket grommet down the PVS
bracket and into position so a seal is made
between the PVS bracket and the rear console
shroud.
6. Slide the PVS grommet down onto the PVS
bracket.
7. Use a #2 phillips screwdriver to remove the eight
(8) screws securing the PVS rear shroud, then
remove the PVS shroud. Next, use a #2 phillips
screwdriver to remove the four (4) screws shown
right. Re-use the screws to secure the PVS to the
PVS bracket.

8. Reinstall Back PVS Shroud and align the PVS
grommet.
9. To install the controller, remove the front of the
console, then use a #2 phillips screwdriver to
remove the screw securing the blank cover to the
console.
10. Replace the blank cover removed in Step 6 with
the PVS controller then secure using the same
screw removed in Step 6.
11. Use the diagram (right) and the table below
to connect the PVS cabling to the appropriate
location:
(1) PVS Power to supplementary power cable from
unit.
(2) PVS Controller (installed in Step 7).
(3) 3.5mm Audio Cable to hotbar OR USB panel.
(4) USB Port (used for software updates).
(5) HDMI In
(6) Coax In
NOTE: The RJ45 jack on the right of the PVS is not
used.

12. Reinstall the front of the console.
For units with Gen 1 hotbar, go to Page 7 to continue installation.
For units with Gen 2 hotbar, go to Page 9 to continue installation.
For units without a hotbar, go to Page 11 to continue installation.

Headphone Jack - Units with Gen 1 Hotbar
For Star Trac treads 8-TRx, 8-TR, 8-TC, and the Stairmaster 8-G Stepmill after installing the PVS, you
must install the headphone jack in the hotbar. The following steps must be completed after primary
installation of the PVS and controller.
1. Connect the 3.5mm audio cable from the PVS (3)
to the hot bar audio cable.
2. Remove the phillips screw on the underside of
the hot bar that holds the cover in place and pull
out the cover..
3. Insert the headphone jack and use the Phillips
screw to fasten in place.

4. Remove the 2 Phillips screws on the USB
panel and remove the panel from the console.
Disconnect the USB cable from the USB board.
5. Connect the USB cable and HDMI cable to the
new panel, apply the overlay to the panel, then
reinstall panel into the console.
6. Carefully close the console and refer to the
owner’s manual for programming and operation
instructions.

Headphone Jack - Units with Gen 2 Hotbar
1. Connect the headphone cable from the PVS (3)
to the hot bar cable.
2. Use a #2 phillips screwdriver to remove the PCB-
from the Gen 1 hotbar insert, then install it into
Gen 2 hotbar insert.
3. Use a 3mm allen key to remove the M4 x 16mm
socket head cap screw securing the headphone
cap into the hotbar, then remove the headphone
cap.
4. Install the Gen 2 hotbar insert built in Step 1 into
the hotbar, then use a 3mm allen key to secure
the insert using the same socket head cap screw
from Step 2.

5. Remove the 2 Phillips screws on the USB panel
and remove the panel from the console. Discon-
nect the USB cable from the USB board.
6. Connect the USB cable and HDMI cable to the
new panel, apply the overlay to the panel, then
reinstall panel into the console.
7. Carefully close the console and refer to the
owner’s manual for programming and operation
instructions.

Headphone Jack - Units without Hotbars
For units without hot bars including the 8G, 8-UB, 8-RB, the following steps must be completed after
primary installation of the PVS and controller. The headphone jack goes directly into the console
with a new bar replacing the existing USB/HDMI bar.
1. Use a #2 phillips screwdriver to remove the two
screws from original USB panel, remove the
panel, then disconnect the USB cable from the
USB board.
2. Connect the USB cable and HDMI cable to the
new panel, connect the headphone jack to the
panel using the small Phillips screw, then apply
the overlay to the panel. Finally, install the panel
into the console.
3. Use the headphone extension cable to connect
the headphone jack on the panel to the PVS.
Connect the angled side of the cable to the panel
jack.

4. Connect the straight side of the same cable to
the 3.5mm audio cable (3) from the screen.
5. Carefully close the console and refer to the
owner’s manual for programming and operation
instructions.
