CAUTION: DO NOT CLOSE TRUNK UNTIL INST ALLA TION IS COMPLETE AND YOU HAVE
TESTED THE ACTUA TOR(failure to do so may result In a locked trunk with no way to unlock it).
STEP 1. Open trunk and put a towel or rag over the latch striker bar to prevent accidental
trunk closure and locking during installation.
STEP 2. Remove existing cable(s) from the lock cylinder, latch mechanism, and manual
release lever(2203 and 2204 only) located on floor left of drivers seat. Removing the manual
release cable will require losening trim panels, carpeting and backseat. On some vehicles
removing the cable from the lock cylinder may require drilling out two pop rivets holding the
cable connector.
STEP 3. Install the actuator using the 2 screws provided(Do not overtighten screws as this can
bind the actuator).
STEP 4. Connect cables. Connect the cable connector to the lock cylinder using screws or
pop rivets(not included). The manual release cable should be routed to the release lever
following the same route as the one removed in STEP 2 above and reconnected. Leave trim
panels, carpeting and backseat loose until after STEP 10.
STEP 5. Route the wiring harness. Decide first where you wish to mount the switch button
(glove box or under dash). Starting at the actuator, plug the black wire connector into the female
connector of the actuator and route the wire either through or along the trunk deck ribbing in the
most direct route to your desired switch button location. You may have to remove the rear seat.
Leave the black wire loose until STEP 10. If installing our EM-2202 motorized actuator, remove
one of the actuator mounting screws and attach the eyeloop of the green ground wire of the
wiring harness and retighten. Without a proper ground your motorized actuator will not work.
STEP 6. Oisconnect positive battery cable of your vehicle.
STEP 7. INSTALL SWITCH BUTTON.
A). Glove Box Installation. If you are installing your switch in the glove box, many models
have plugged holes already in the glove box. If your vehicle is so equipped, remove the plug.
The hole may be either 314. or 1. in diameter. If the hole is 1. diameter you will need to use the
optional snap ring with your switch button. Glove boxes with square holes or without precut
holes will require a 3/4. hole be cut or an underdash installation used. (CAUTION: If you choose
to cut a hole, remove the glove box insert to prevent damage to vehicle equipment located be-
hind it). Once your hole is located, route the terminals on the black wire and red wire through
this hole and connect them to the male connectors of the switch button. To complete installation
push the switch button back into the whole.
B). Under Dash Installation. If you are installing the switch button under the dash you will
need to use the optional switch bracket and snap ring. Remove a dash screw at your desired
location or use the included self-tapping screw and install the switch button bracket. Connect the
wiring to the switch button as described in 7 A above and complete installation.
