Safety instructions for electrical tools
The safety instructions in this chapter amend those in the previous Safety chapter,
see page 4, and are taken from the DIN EN 60745-1.
Read and adhere to the instructions. otherwise it can lead to accidents, for
instance, due to electric shocks, fire or other injuries.
Working area
zKeep the working area clean and well lit. Untidyness and poor lighting can lead
to accidents.
zDo not use electric tools in explosive surroundings such as in the presence of
combustible fluids or gases. Electric tools generate sparks which can ignite these
combustible substances.
zKeep children and unauthorized people away when using electric tools. You
could loose control if you are distracted.
Electric safety
zThe power plug of electric tools must be suited to the power outlet. Never change
the plug. Do not use an adapter plug for earthed tools. Unchanged plugs and the
proper outlets prevent the risk of electric shocks.
zPrevent bodily contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, heating bodies, stoves
or refrigerators. There is increased danger of an electric shock if the body is in
contact with an earthed potential.
zDo not expose electric tools to rain or moisture. The danger of an electric shock
is increased if water enters into an electric tool.
zDo not use the cable for another purpose. Do not carry or pull the tool with the
cable and do not use the cable to pull the plug out of the power outlet Keep the
cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges and movable parts. Damaged or coiled
cables increase the danger of an electric shock.
zWhen using the electric tool outdoors, make use of a suitable extension cable.
The utilisation of an extension cable suitable for outdoor use prevents the risk of
an electric shock.

Personal safety
zBe alert, watch what you are doing and be careful when working with electric
tools. Do not use the electric tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medications. A short moment of inattentiveness when using an electric
tool can lead to serious injury.
zUse protective equipment. Always wear protective glasses. The proper utilisation
of protective equipment such as protective dust masks, non-slipping shoes,
helmet and ear protection prevents risk of injury.
zPrevent accidental starting. Ensure that the starting switch is off when the plug is
inserted into the power outlet. Accidents can occur when a connected tool is
carried with the finger on the starter switch or when the plug is inserted to the
power outlet whilst the machine is switched on..
zRemove tool keys and setting tools before switching to tool on. Accidents can
occur when a tool key or setting tool remains in a rotating tool .
zDo not adopt an unnatural bodily position. Ensure a proper stand and keep your
balance at all times. This helps to maintain control of the electric tool in unex-
pected situations.
zWear suitable work clothing. Do not wear loose clothing and jewellery. Keep hair
clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewellery or long
hair can be caught in moving parts.
zIn the case that the electric tool is equipped with a dust suction or catcher
arrangement, ensure that these are properly connected and used. The use of this
type pf equipment can prevent dangers due to the development of dust.
Use and servicing of electric tools
zDo not overload the electric tool. Use the correct tool for the desired application.
The correct tool works better and easier in the given work environment.
zDo not use the tool if it cannot be switched on or off with the switch. Any electric
tool that cannot be controlled by the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
zPull the plug out of the power outlet before making adjustments, changing acces-
sories or storing the tool. This safety measure will prevent inadvertent starting of
the tool .
zStore unused electric tools out of the reach of children. Do not allow persons
unfamiliar with the electric tool or the safety instructions to use it. Electric tools
in the hands of inauthorized or unsuitable persons are dangerous.
zTake good care of electric tools. Check all settings and fasten loose parts; check
all components for damage and other conditions that can affect the operation of
the electric tool. In case of damage, have the electric tool repaired before use.
Many accidents are caused by improperly cared-for electric tools.
zKeep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp
edges do not jam so easily and are easier to control.

Attaching the dust collection bag
Specifying sanding belt and speed
zSanding performance as well as the grade of the sanded surface are above all
determined by the sanding belt and speed.
zBelow table assists you in picking the right sanding belt and sanding speed. The
list contains standard values. The rule of thumb is: The higher the speed set, the
more of the surface is ablated, resulting in an ever finer sanded surface.
zBefore sanding, always make a practice check for safety reasons to specify the
correct speed.

Operation
Basic notes on functions and use
zAn unending sanding belt runs between two belt sander rollers over the work-
piece and sands off the surface.
zAs the sanding belt does not change direction, the sanding appears to be very
even. Belt sanders are thus particularly suited for the processing of wood, if sand-
ing is done in grain direction.
zOnly apply slight pressure and work uniformly.
zAlways guide the belt sander with both hands.
zDo not use the same sanding belt for wood and metal.
zWorn or ripped sanding belts do not only imply the risk of injury when ripping
apart, but they may also damage the workpiece's surface. Always replace the
sanding belt on time.
zStore the sanding belts in a free-hanging position, if possible, as to avoid kinks.
Sanding
DANGER
Smoke may result from sanding for too long at too high speed. Fire
hazard! Wait for the material to be cooled down again. Then cautiously
proceed with sanding at decreased speed.
Note
Wear a protective mask for intense formation of dust. As well mind to
have the dust collection bag attached, see page 13.
1. Fasten in particular small workpieces by clamping, for example.
2. Insert the sanding belt suited for the material to be processed and set the suit-
able speed, see page 13.
3. Check the position of the latching button. It must not be locked!
4. Connect the unit with a wall outlet.
5. Hold the belt sander on both
handles, lift it and switch it on.
6. Put the rotating sanding belt
on the workpiece and start
sanding.

Please note:
- Guide the belt sander with both hands.
- Apply only slight pressure. The belt sander's own weight is sufficient for a
convenient sanding result.
- Follow the grain direction in parallel and slightly overlapping tracks when
sanding.
- Repeatedly switch off the device and check the sanding result.
7. Lift the device before switching it off. Don't leave the sanding belt on the
sanding area when stalling the device.
Replacing the sanding belt
DANGER
Prior to disassembling and cleaning the appliance, unplug the unit from
the wall outlet.
Select the sanding belt appropriate for the material to be processed, see page 13.
Observe the arrows indicating the direction of rotation for belt sander as well
as sanding belt. These arrows are to point into the same direction!
4. Flip back the clamping lever.
5. Connect the plug to a power outlet and lift the belt sander.
1. Unfold the clamping lever
to release the clamping
jig.
Push the clamping lever
all the way forward.
Some force is required to
do so.
2. Remove the old sanding
belt.
3. Evenly push the new sand-
ing belt on the belt
sander.
