To properly use the device, carefully read this quick-start guide
before using it.
Instructions are based on factory settings of the device.
Images and screenshots in this guide may not exactly match
those of the final product.

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing bq Cervantes 2. Before using your e-reader,
carefully read this quick-start guide.
Buttons and ports
Power
Long press to switch on the device, short press to switch it off.
microSD
port
The USB connects the device to a computer.
Joystick
It allows you to navigate through different options, moving to
the right/left/up/down. Click on it to open the selected option.
Back
Press this button to go back to the previous screen.
Menu
Press this button to access to sections menu.
Top and
low
buttons
They allow you to move back and forwards. While reading a
book, they enable you to turn to the next page or go back to the
previous one.

GETTING STARTED
Battery
This device contains a rechargeable battery. To charge your bq
Cervantes 2's battery, plug the e-reader into a wall outlet using the
Power Adapter and MicroUSB cable included with your bq Cervantes
2.
When the battery is fully charged, the battery icon will be shown as
full. Disconnect the device cord and unplug the charger from the
socket.
You should fully charge the battery before using the bq for the
first time. The charging time is approximately 6 hours.
Power on/off
To power on the device, press the power button for a few seconds. To
power it off, press the power button.
Insert/remove the microSD™ card
To install the MicroSD
TM
card, insert it in the slot and press until it
clicks into place. To remove the MicroSD
TM
card, press it to remove it
from the slot.
Transferring files
To transfer files from your e-reader to a computer or vice versa, do
the following:
1. Connect the MicroUSB cable to the MicroUSB port on
your e-reader and insert the USB connector into the USB
port on the computer. The computer will identify the e-
reader as a “Removable storage device” and the e-reader
will temporarily become inoperative.
2. On the computer, select the files you wish to transfer to
your e-reader and copy them onto the removable storage
device.
Do not disconnect the cable while files are being copied. If you
are transferring them to a MicroSD
TM
card inside the device, do not
remove the card.
3. Securely disconnect the USB to MicroUSB cable from the
computer and e-reader.
Make periodic security copies of the contents of your bq in order
to prevent losing your files on the event of damage, loss or theft.
MAIN MENU
Favorites
The Favorites shows a list of books marked as such. If no books have
been marked as a favorite, this message will appear: “Empty folder!
Please add Favorite books from library”
Library
The Library displays the list of books stored on the device. This
section will show only those books with a format that is compatible
with the reader.
Picture
This folder shows all the images stored on your e-reader.
Explorer
Use this option to access the internal memory of your reader or the
files on the microSD card. You can use bq Cervantes 2 as an external
hard drive and store any files on it you may wish, but this window will
show only the files that are compatible with the reader.
Reading History
Shows the last five books you have read or are reading.
Sudoku
The device has a number of Sudoku games. You have to complete the
grid with the right numbers. The numbers from 1 to 9 can appear only
once in each column, or in each row and in each 3x3 square.
Dictionary
Look up the meaning of words in the internal dictionary.
Settings
Manage all the settings of your bq here.
HOW TO READ AN EBOOK
To read a book, open the Library by clicking on the icon with the
joystick and then click on the title of the document. The book will
open to the first page or the page where you left off reading if you had
opened the document previously.
To turn the page, click on the lower edge of the side buttons or move
the joystick to the right. To turn to the previous page, click on the
upper edge of the side buttons or move the joystick to the left. When
you are finished reading a book, click on the Back to stop reading.
READING MENU
While reading, you can access the Reading Menu by clicking on the
joystick or the Menu button.
Bookmark - Add a mark to the page you are reading.
Contents - Shows the table of contents of the book, if it has that
function. If it does not have the function, the screen will show
this message "No table of contents.”
Rotate - Use this option to turn the screen around 90 degrees.
Search - This function can search for words in the book.
Page - To go to a specific page, enter the digits with the numeric
keypad that pops up on the screen. Click on the arrow to the
right of the keypad to confirm your choice.
Font - Change the size of the Font of the book you are reading.
You can choose small, medium or large.
Back - The reader will take you to the page you had been
reading previously.
More - Go to the next page in the Reading Menu
Annotation - Go directly to the list of bookmarks.
Font - Change the font. You can choose Georgia, Mensajero or
NTX Bold.
Full screen - Toggles full-screen mode.
Property - Shows the technical data on the book you are
reading: the title, author, publisher, date, type of book and
synopsis.
Favorites - Select this option to mark the current book as a
favorite. The book will automatically be added to the folder of
favorites and the message “Favorite added” will be displayed.
Delete - Completely remove the book you are reading.
If you are not going to manage your settings and wish to leave a
window, press the Menu button once again.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
To use the device safely, please observe the following safety
precautions:
Do not use damaged power cords or connectors or loose
sockets.
Do not touch the power cord with wet hands or pull on the cord
to disconnect the charger.
Do not fold or damage the power cord.
Do not use the device while charging or touch it with wet hands.
Do not strike or drop the charger or battery.
Do not charge the battery with chargers that have not been
approved by the manufacturer.
Do not use the device during a lightning storm.
Do not handle damaged or leaky Li-ion batteries.
Handle and dispose batteries and chargers with precaution.
Do not use the device near a pacemaker: if possible, avoid using
the device at a distance of less than 15 cm from the pacemaker, as
the device may interfere with it.
Do not use the device in a hospital or near medical equipment
which is vulnerable to interference caused by radiofrequency.
If you use medical equipment, contact the manufacturer to
ensure that the equipment is protected from radiofrequency. If
you use a hearing aid, contact the manufacturer for further
information on radio interference.
In potentially explosive environments, turn off the device
instead of removing the battery. Observe all rules, instructions
and warning signs in potentially explosive environments.
Do not use the device in fuel loading areas (service stations) or
near fuels or chemicals in explosive areas.
Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases or explosive
materials in the same compartment as the device, its parts or
accessories.
Turn off the device when on board a plane.
Electronic devices in a motor vehicle may behave in a wrong way
due to the device's radiofrequency.
Warning!
This product has to be used with a power supply that has the
following technical specifications:

OUTPUT: 5.0V 1.0A
Polarity has to be the same as described in this picture:
The use of power sources with different specifications may
cause damage to equipment and can compromise the safety of
people and goods.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the device, turn it off and disconnect all the system
and power cords. Ensure that the device is completely dry before
connecting again the cords and turning it on. Do not use any cleaning
liquids or sprays directly on the surface of the screen or the case.
Use a soft, clean and lint-free cloth to remove dust and dirt from the
screen. For fingerprints and stains, use a cloth with mild cleaning
products. Moisten the cloth with clean water, wring it well and clean
the case to remove any leftover detergent.
CORRECT DISPOSAL OF THIS PRODUCT

countries with selective waste collection systems).
This marking on the product, accessories or literature indicates that
the product and its electronic accessories (e.g. charger, headset, USB
cable) should not be disposed of with other household waste at the
end of their working life.

types of waste and recycle them responsibly to promote the
