1 Introduction
This publication details replacement of the battery
(B12454) fitted to the processor board of the
SM500F Paperless recorder. The procedure must be
carried out by a trained technician.

4 Replacing the battery
1. Isolate the recorder from the power supply.
Referring to Fig. 4.1:
2. Unlock the door with the key (if required) A, press release
catch B and open the door.
Referring to Fig. 4.2:
3. Use a T8 Torx driver to remove 6 Torx screws C securing
the door assembly rear cover and remove the rear cover.
Referring to Fig. 4.3:
4. Disconnect processor board flexi-cable D, display
flexi-cable E keypad membrane cable F and inverter
cable (if fitted) G from the processor board. Lift out and
discard the processor board.
5. Turn the processor board over.

6. Remove battery H and insert replacement.
Referring to Fig. 4.3:
7. Position the processor board in the door housing and
reconnect inverter cable G (color recorders only – if fitted)
keypad membrane cable F, display flexi-cable E and
processor board flexi-cable D.

8. Refit the door assembly rear cover and use a T8 Torx driver
to secure 6 Torx screws C.
9. Close and lock the door.
10. Restore the recorder's power supply.
CAUTION – Property damage
The recorder is vulnerable to electrostatic damage.
Wear an anti-static strap or place the instrument on
an anti-static workbench.

5 Setting the time and date
1. Enter the Configuration level of the SM500F.
2. Enter password (if required) and select Edit current
configuration.
3. Select the Common configuration parameter:
The Common Configuration menu is displayed:
4. Use the arrows to highlight the Time tab:
5. Press the key to select the Date and time
parameter.
A warning dialog is displayed:

The Date and time menu is displayed:
7. Set the required time and date.
8. Once finished, press and exit and save the
configuration as normal.
Important note
Once the battery has been removed, the battery failed
icon is displayed on the front panel of the unit. To
restore normal operation, the correct time and date must
set.
Important note
Changing the time will potentially cause loss of
data. Ensure that all data archiving is up to date
before proceeding.
