Eaton E76 Operating instructions

  • Hello! I've reviewed the Instruction Leaflet for the Eaton E76 Series Optical Sensors. This document outlines procedures for setting up the device, its wiring options and explains that it uses patented technology for accurate grayscale mark detection. I'm ready to answer any specific questions you may have regarding the sensor, its setup, or its functions.
  • What should I do if the Ready/Error LED is blinking red/green?
What is the purpose of the SET button?
What are the differences between Simple Setup and Fine Detection Setup?

Initial Setup
The E76 Series Optical Contrast Sensors use a patented technology to accurately detect a grayscale mark on a contrasting background material.
Two setup modes are available:
Simple Setup
For most applications.
Fine Detection Setup
Used when the contrast between the target mark and the background is insufficient to result in a detection using the Simple Setup method.
Simple Setup Instructions
The mark to be detected should be placed correctly at the right reading distance within the sensor spot.
Press and hold the SET button until the Ready/Error LED turns off.
Release the SET button and wait for the Ready/Error LED to turn green.
The sensor is now ready to detect the pre-set colored mark or object.
Fine Detection Setup Instructions
The mark to be detected should be placed correctly at the right reading distance within the sensor spot.
Press the SET button, do not hold it.
The Ready/Error LED should turn off.
Push and hold the SET button until the Ready/Error LED blinks green.
Place the background under the sensor spot.
Press the SET button again until the Ready/Error LED turns off.
The sensor is now ready to detect with high precision the pre-set colored mark.

Yellow LED Indicates when target is present.
Green/Red LED
(Ready/Error)
When continuously green, indicates sensor is operating in normal condition and functioning correctly.
When blinking red/green, indicates an incorrect sensor setting (→ Initial Setup).
SET Button Activates the self-setup procedure
If a setting error occurs, simply reset the process by pressing and holding the SET button.
