PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLING COMPRESSOR START ASSIST UPGRADE KIT

A. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

B. PRECAUTIONS

1. ReadandunderstandInstallationandOperating

instructions before attempting to start your air

conditioner/heatpumpinstallation.

These instructions must be read and under-

stood before installation of this kit. This kit

must be installed by a Dometic Service Center

or a qualied service technician. Modication

of this product can be extremely hazardous

and could result in personal injury or property

damage.

Disconnect 120 volt AC and 12 volt DC. Fail-

ure to follow these instructions could create

a shock hazard causing death or severe per-

sonal injury.

 2. Dometic,LLCwillnotbeliableforanydamages

orinjuryincurredduetofailureinfollowingthese

instructions.

 3. InstallationmustcomplywiththeNationalElectri-

calCodeandanyStateorLocalCodesorregula-

tions.

Improper installation may damage equipment,

could endanger life, cause serious injury

and/or property damage.

 4. DONOTaddanydevicesoraccessoriestothis

Dometicappliancesexceptthosespecicallyau-

thorizedbyDometic.

 5. This Dometic appliance must be serviced by

qualiedpersonnelandsomestatesrequirethese

peopletobelicensed.

C. PROCEDURE

 1. Disconnectall120VACand12VDCpowertothe

unit.

 2. Remove shroud from the unit, saving the

screws.

 3. Removetheelectricboxassemblyfromtheside

oftheevaporatorbulkhead.

 4. Removecapacitorstrapthatsecuresthefan-run

capacitorintheelectricalbox,savethescrew.(This

stepdoesnotapplytothe591XXseriesheatpump

models.)

Model series 591XX proceed to step 9.

 5. Attachoneendofthenewcapacitorstraptothe

boxusingthesamescrewholeandexistingscrew

tosecureitinplace.

 6. Place the compressor motor starter next to the

fan-runcapacitorandwrapthestraparoundboth

components. Select a strap hole to install the

secondscrewinsuringthecapacitorsaresecurely

heldinplace,butnotdeformedwhenthescrewis

installed.SeeFIG.1.

 8. Proceedtostep11.

Model 579XX & 595XX series skip steps 9, 10

& 11.

 9. On591XXserieswrapthecapacitorstraparound

thecompressormotorstarterandplaceintheleft

handcorneroftheelectricalbox,oppositefromthe

fan-runcapacitor.Makesuretheterminalsareup.

Important: Make sure the hard insulated ag terminal

on the “RED’ wire, (supplied) and is located on the top

terminal of the compressor motor starter. This will pre-

vent the terminal from shorting to the electrical box.

 10. Models591XXseriesusingthescrewprovided,

secure both ends of the strap in the electrical

box.

 11. OnallmodelsattachtheREDwirefromthecom-

pressormotorstarter to the“HERM”terminalof

thefan-runcapacitor.SeeFIG.4.
