CALVIO - See the Heat!
Visualizing the amount of stored heat provides enhanced control as well as
information. The user can see at a glance whether the storage is warm and the
heat layering stable or if it is losing heat too quickly.
A sensor chain detects temperatures in the eight different layers of the storage.
Data is queried over a digital bus system by a controller unit and transformed
into transmittable information. In order to avoid unnecessary electrical smog
and to extend battery life, wireless data transmission occurs for just a fraction
of a second when required by the receiver and indication module (activated by
touching the upper cover).
The display module receives the temperature information and makes it easy to
read using colour-changing red/blue light emitting diodes.
The warm water supply indicator allows the adjustment of consumption beha-
vior and, if necessary, the use of an additional heating system that is optimized
according to individual requirements. Through simple visualization, CALVIO thus
increases the solar coverage portion without loss of convenience.

The unit must be installed in a dry interior location. Please
note that in order to function correctly, the device should
not be exposed to any electromagnetic fields, e.g. of fluore-
scent lamps and large electric motors.
Choose a location for fastening the transmission module
near the storage or directly at the storage (take into
account the length of the sensor chain).
Fasten the transmitting module using the two clearance
holes.
Fasten the sensor chain to the outer layer below the
insulation of the storage. If necessary, use temperature-
resistant adhesive tape. Arrange the sensor chain for “big“
(storage wall height >= 1.4m) and “small“ (storage wall
height < 1.4m) storage constructions according to the
patterns on the left.
Connect the mains plug of the transmission module to
the mains.
Insert batteries into the receiver module (see page 5).
Transmitting and receiver module are then ready for ope-
ration.

2. Handling and Function
Touching the upper cylindrical cover turns the display on for
10 seconds. Temperature layers are indicated using red and
blue LEDs. As is common, blue is assigned to low tempera-
tures and red to high.
The control lamp of the transmitting module switches off to
indicate data communication. The yellow LED at the bottom
of the receiver and indication module is on during the time
the connection is established.

3. Flashing codes Transmitting module
After the supply voltage has been switched on, the yellow
control LED flashes (usually 1 x).This flashing signals that
the transmitting module and the receiver module recog-
nize each other.
• Uninterrupted lighting signalises readiness for operation.
If the light extinguishes for a short period of time, data
(temperature values) have been requested by the recei-
ver module.
Receiver and display module
After the upper cover has been touched for a longer pe-
riod of time, the number of illuminating LEDs indicates
the device family number. Illuminating blue LEDs indicate
that the transmitting module has been configurated for a
standard storage. A corresponding indication by red LEDs
indicates that the transmitting module has been configu-
rated for the buffer storage.
• A short lighting up (max. 1 sec.) of the yellow LED in-
dicates that data have been requested (by touching the
surface of the cover).
• If the yellow LED flashes every 0,5 sec. during the tempe-
rature distribution indication, the batteries are too weak.
The batteries have then to be replaced.
3. Changing the batteries
Attention:
Avoid damage caused by electrostatic discharges. Before
beginning any intervention, divert charges by touching
metallic surfaces, such as radiators and water taps.
In order to replace the batteries, unscrew and remove
the two screws at the lower cylinder plug of the receiver
module. Then remove the lower cylinder plug and take out
the battery holder.
Replace the batteries in the holder with two new ones of
the type Mignon AA 1,5V.
Please conduct the assembly in reverse order.
Do not use batteries by different manufacturers. Use full
batteries only and do not use full batteries along with used
batteries..

4. Device family number Warning!
Switch-off power supply and remove
plug from the mains before opening
the housing!
Transmitting and receiver module must have the same device
family number in order to be able to communicate with each
other. The device family number 1 is set by the manufacturer
and the device is ready for opeartion after installation.
If other modules are also near your module (e.g. in the
neighborhood), it can happen that the installed module also
receives data from these other modules. In order to avoid
this, another addresses or device family number should be
used. To set the device family number, use the DIP switches
inside the transmitting and the receiver modules. All DIP-
switches are set in the OFF position by the manufacturer
(corresponding to device family number 1). The adjustable
positions of the DIP-switches with the corresponding device
family number are shown in the table to the left.
DIP-switch 4:
transmitter module: assigned
receiver module: standard / buffer storage
In order to use the DIP-switches in the transmitter mo-
dule, open the housing:
Unscrew screws (1) on the top and the bottom and
remove the housing cover.
Unscrew screw (2) in the cover and remove cover..

DIP-switches
To use the DIP-switches in the receiver module, unscrew
the screws at the lower cylinder plug and remove lower
plug (see page 5). Now, 4 DIP-switches can be seen.
6. Trouble shooting Should the temperature distribution not be indicated after
data has been requested by the receiver module and after
the yellow LED has extinguised, the following could be the
cause:
The transmitting module has no voltage. Insert the mains
plug into the mains.
The device family number of transmitting and receiver
module are not identical. Adjust the device familiy num-
ber (see p. 6).
If the LED does not light up after the receiver module has
requested data, and if no other indication is made, it may
be the case that the batteries are empty. Replace batteries.
