Chapter 1
The External Keyboard (part number 1-200591-02) is an RS 232C
keyboard intended for connection to the present range of Intermec
Fingerprint-compatible EasyCoder printers, i.e.:
EasyCoder 201 IIS, E, SA
EasyCoder 401, 401 LL
EasyCoder 501S, E, SA, XP
EasyCoder 601S, E, XP
The keyboard uses the following communication parameters:
Interface: RS 232C
Baud rate: 9600
Parity: None
Character length: 8
Stop bits: 1
The keyboard's communication cable is fitted with a female DB25
connector at the printer end and a mini-DIN connector at the
keyboard end. Connect the cable between an RS 232C serial port on
the printer (usually "uart1:") and the outer one of the two connectors
on the keyboard (the inner one is used for programming, see below).
Note that the keyboard requires +5V (42 mA) from the printer,
which in some cases must be enabled by a strap on the CPU-board
or interface board, see the Technical Manual or Installation &
Operation manual for the printer model in question.
The keybord has a standard U.S. layout, but is fully programmable
using special software (see below).
In addition to the standard keys, the keyboard has 32 free keys with
clear tops and 16 keys with blind tops, that can be programmed for
user applications. The blind tops can be replaced by clear ones and
the tops of the lower part of the keyboard can be moved so as to adapt
the keyboard for various national standards.
Programming software for Microsoft DOS and various versions of
Microsoft Windows are available free of charge at http://
www.tipro.si/Technical.htm (MIDDOS, MIDWIN, and
MIDWINNT). You will also need a PC-to-keyboard cable from
Intermec. The PC must have a PS2 keyboard connection.

Chapter 2
The keyboard has 4 modes or layers:
L1 Unshifted
L2 Ctrl
L3 Shifted
L4 Caps Lock (deactivated by the Unlock key)
The selected layer is indicated by a control lamp on the layer
indicator panel.
When a key is pressed, the keyboard transmits an ASCII character
to the printer. The character is processed in regard of any NASC and
MAP statements (see Intermec Fingerprint manuals) and, in case of
printable data, produces a character according to the selected
character set.
On the pages that follow, the ASCII characters in decimal format
for each key and mode combination are shown. Bold characters
indicate printable characters (ASCII 32–255 dec.) whereas italic
characters indicate non-printable control characters (ASCII 0–31
dec). Refer to the appropriate version of Intermec Fingerprint
Reference Manual for complete national character set (NASC)
tables.
