Introduction
The finder displays a laterally correct unreversed image and is ideal for action photography.
The eyepiece features adjustable diopter corrections from +5 to -5.
Two metering modes are available, aperture priority auto exposure (A E) and manual metering.
Four colored LEDs, orange to indicate AE Mode, green to indicate a correct exposure, and
two red LEDs to indicate an over or under exposure are displayed on the left side of t h e
finder’s eyepiece.
The finder is very useful for quick and accurate focusing.
Precautions
The FK402 A E F i n d e r is designed for 645 PRO camera and cannot be fitted to t h e M645 Super
camera.
Make sure that the finder is firmly fixed to the camera body.
There are 15 electrical cont act pins on the front and lower part of the AE finder. Should dirt or
grease adhere to these pins, electronic coupling may be impaired and result in a malfunction of
the Finder's AE metering. If the contacts need cleaning, remove the finder f r o m t h e
c a m e r a b o d y and use a soft, clean cloth to gently and thoroughly clean them.
The battery in the camera body is used for the metering circuits of the A E finder. Be sure to
check the camera’s battery to assure proper operation of the A E finder.
Be sure to adjust the finder’s Diopter Adjustment Ring for your eyesight before focusing.

Operation
Attaching
Insert the two Attaching Latches on the front of the finder into the mounting
holes on the front of the camera body, and then depress the finder until the back
of the finder clicks and locks into place.
Detaching
Push the finder’s Lock Release Button while pushing down on the button on the
other side. The finder can then be removed from the camera.
Adjusting the Diopter Dial
To obtain critical focusing, adjust the Diopter Dial to your eyesight.
1. Rotate the Diopter Dial Adjustment Ring until you can see the lines on the
focusing screen. 2. Turn the lens’ Focusing Ring until a target appears sharp and
clear. 3. Make fine adjustments by slightly rotating the Diopter Adjustment Dial.
4. Read the diopter scale and mark or remember the diopter setting for future
use.
AE Photography
1. Switch to AE Mode by aligning the ‘A’ on the Shutter Speed Dial with the white
index line. 2. Set the ISO speed on the Film Holder. 3. Set the lens’ A-M Lever to
its ‘A’ setting. 4. After setting the aperture, the correct shutter speed will be
automatically set and the green LED will light when the Shutter Speed Dial is
depressed halfway. 5. If the shutter speed is less than 1/30s, the underexposure
symbol ‘T’ will blink to warn against camera shake.
Manual Photography
1. Move the camera’s Shutter Speed Dial from AE Mode (‘A’) to any other shutter
speed setting. 2. Read the finder’s display by depressing the Shutter Speed Dial
halfway. 3. Adjust the lens’ Aperture Ring until the green LED steadily
illuminates. The display will illuminate for 10 seconds and then turn off to
conserve the battery.
AE Lock Photography (AEL)
The AEL position is very important when making selective exposure
measurements of subjects that are not in the center of the frame or are backlit.
1. Set the camera’s Shutter Speed Dial to its ‘AEL’ position. 2) While looking
through the finder, center the most important part of the subject in the center of
the finder while keeping the Shutter Release Button depressed halfway. The
exposure setting will be memorized and you can recompose the subject.
Mirror-up Photography Using the AE Finder
Mirror-up photography is not possible in AE Mode, ‘A’, however, it is possible in
the ‘AEL’ Mode. 1. While pressing down on the Shutter Release Button halfway,
turn the Mirror Up Lever to ‘M-UP’, and then release the Shutter Release Button.
Using the Self Timer
When the Self Ttimer is used with the finder in te "A" position, the
exposure sure will be determined an instant before the shutter fires.
When the Self Timer is used with the finder in the "AEL" position, the
exposure will be determined by light conditions an instant before the Self
Timer was activated.
Using the Finder with Leaf-Shutter Lenses
In the ‘F’ focal-plane-shutter mode, perform AE or manual photography.
In the lens-shutter mode, AE photography is not possible. Use the AE finder as a light meter.
Set the shutter speed on the leaf shutter lens to the Shutter Speed Dial on the camera.
After depressing the Shutter Speed Dial halfway, turn the lens’ Aperture Ring until the finder’s
green LED constantly illuminates.
Set the Shutter Speed Dial to 1/8 sec.
