1. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
2. Observe work area conditions. Keep work area well lighted.
3. Store idle equipment. When not in use, the Digital Caliper must be stored
in a dry location. Always lock up products and keep out of reach of
children.
4. Use the right product for the job. There are certain applications for
which the Caliper was designed. Do not modify the Digital Caliper and do
not use the Caliper for a purpose for which it was not intended.
5. Check for damaged parts. Before using any product, any part that
appears damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will
operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for any broken
or damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect its operation.
Replace or repair damaged or worn parts immediately.
6. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identical
replacement parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty.
7. Do not operate product if under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Read warning labels on prescriptions to determine if your judgment or
reflexes are impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not
operate the product.
8. Use eye protection. Always wear ANSI approved impact safety goggles.
9. Battery strength will affect performance. Use fresh batteries at all times.

Unpacking
When unpacking your Digital Caliper, check to make sure that the product is intact
and undamaged. If any parts are missing or broken, please call
HARBOR FREIGHT TOOLS at 1-800-444-3353.
Operation
Your Digital Caliper requires no assembly. It is important that you read the entire
manual to become familiar with the product BEFORE you use the Digital Caliper.
Do not bump or shock the tool when applying it to any work piece. Rough
treatment may damage the highly sensative mechanism.
Measuring the Outside of an Object
1. Push the “On” Button (see Figure 1) to “ON”. Use the thumb control to
separate the sides of the Caliper. Slide the object you wish to measure
in-between the pins on the Caliper or between the jaws on the Caliper-see
Figure 1.

2. The LCD readout will measure the distance between the pins or jaws as the
object is measured. Press the “Zero” button to set the readout to 0. The
LCD readout will show the measurement in either inches or mm. Press the
“Off button” to turn off when finished using.
3. To change the setting from inches to millimeters, press the ON/Inch/mm
button. Each time the button is pushed the mode will change.
Measuring the Inside of an Object
1. Set the prongs on the Caliper inside of the object being measured. Make
certain the Caliper readout is calibrated to “zero” while the prongs are
closed. Spread the prongs apart until they are touching the surface of the
object being measured. The LCD readout will show the measurement in
either inches or mm.
Replacing the Battery
1. Remove the battery cover by gently prying it off.
2. Replace the battery with the type specified on page two. Insert it into the
compartment so the positive and negative polarity match those indicated.
3. Replace the battery cover. Dispose of the old battery in accordance
with local ordinances for proper disposal.
Maintenance
1. Protect the Digital Caliper from rough use. It is susceptible to damage
from being dropped, struck with a test piece, improperly mounted or other
abuse. The precision movement is similar to a watch works, and should
be treated accordingly.
2. Protect the Caliper from exposure to water or corrosive materials. It
should be kept clean and dry. Occasional cleaning with a clean rag will
extend its life and good appearance.
3. Lock it up and store in a dry location to inhibit rust. Keep out of the reach
of children.
