Assembly
Your Dial Indicator will require some minor assembly. It is important that you read the entire manual
to become familiar with the product BEFORE you use the Dial Indicator. Before using the Dial
Indicator, check to make sure that the product is intact and undamaged.
Do not bump or shock the tool when applying it to any work piece. Rough treatment may
damage the highly sensitive mechanism.
1. Because of the unique Flexible Stand, your Dial Indicator can be mounted to many different
locations for different applications. When mounting the Dial Indicator, take into account the
location of the test material, the length of the Dial Indicator, and the design of the test fixture.
2. Secure the Pliers to any location.
3. Loosen the Caliper Clamp and insert the Dial Caliper into the opening-see Parts diagram.
Tighten the Knob into place to secure the Dial Caliper in place.
4. Turn the Cam Lock to lock the cable in place. If the Cam Lock doesn’t tighten down properly,
adjust the fine tuning mechanism located near the Dial.
5. Establish a base line. Turn the Bezel on the Dial so that the needle points to zero.
Note: There are many applications for the Dial Indicator with Flex Stand and Clamp. Following is
one example of how the Dial Indicator can be used: testing brake rotors for warp.
Make certain to clean off all brake components with brake parts cleaner before testing.
Following steps 1 through 5, set the Pin of the Dial lightly against a rotor to establish a base
line. You do not want the needle too tight against the object being measured. There must be
room for the needle to move in and out while under pressure.
Spin the rotor to see if it is true. As the rotor spins, the needle will move in and out. The dial
will indicate the degrees of difference in true, defined as the measurements which are above
and below the base line you established at the beginning.
Note: Dial Indicators are highly versatile tools used in many applications in machine shops and
precision fabricating and testing facilities. The above example is only one of many possible uses for
this measuring tool.

Maintenance
1. Protect the Dial Indicator from rough use. It is susceptible to damage from being dropped,
struck with a test piece, improperly mounted or other abuse. The precision movement is
similar to a watch works, and should be treated accordingly.
2. Protect the Dial Indicator from exposure to water or corrosive materials. It should be kept
clean and dry. Occasional cleaning with a clean rag will extend its life and good appearance.
3. When not in use, store the Dial Indicator in its case. Do not leave it installed on your test
piece, as this invites damage or exposure to corrosive environments. Lock it up and store in
a dry location to inhibit rust. Keep out of the reach of children.
