2. Important Information
2.1 Disposal Instructions for Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Do not discard old electronic instruments in municipal
trash. For disposal at end of life, please return this
product to an authorized local electronic waste
disposal service or contact the nearest Kistler
Instrument sales office for return instructions.
2.2 Software Upgrades and Updates
Kistler may from time to time supply upgrades or updates
for embedded software. Such upgrades or updates must
always be installed.

3. Calibration Procedure
3.1 Check Default Calibration Constants
a) Choose menu Calibration > Activate Calibration.
b) Enter password.
c) Choose menu Calibration > Target Calibration and
check calibration constants.
These are typical default values for standard Target
System Type 2523A:
d) Set ox = 0.0 and oy = 0.0
3.2 Install Paper Target
Place paper target approximately 0,5 m BEHIND the
Type 2523A target system. For best results use high
quality paper and install it in wooden frame. Never place
paper target in front of Type 2523A target system due to
distortion of signal by pieces of paper.
Mark center of paper target which serves as aiming point.
The recommended distance of the target system from the
muzzle is 100 m.

3.3 Measure Zeroing Shots
Perform measurement of zeroing shots in accordance
with the following requirements:
a) Use 5.56 NATO or similar small-caliber, highly
supersonic ammunition.
b) Carefully aim the weapon at the aiming point (center
of the target system).
c) Place the first shot as close as possible to the center
of target.
d) Place next shots left, right, up and down from the
center in cross-shape. Width and height of the cross
should be approximately 500 mm.
3.4 Determine Calibration Constants
a) After measurement open the Target Window:
Calibration Procedure

b) Measure the distance between center of the most
distant shots in X and Y direction in paper target and
compare it with relevant distances in electronic
target system (see parameter Rect in right column):
paper target electronic target
x_distance 455 mm 459,5 mm
y_distance
277 mm 280,4 mm
c) Calculation of new calibration constants kx, ky :
kx_new = kx_old × (x_distance_paper target) / (x_distance_electronic target)
kx_new = 1800 × 455 / 459,5 = 1 782
ky_new = ky_old × (y_distance_paper target) / (y_distance_electronic target)
ky_new = 1800 × 277 / 280,4 = 1 778
Set these new constants in Target Window:
Press button and enter new
calibration constants.
If two target systems are used, perform this
calibration for each target system and use individual
sets of calibration constants TS1 and TS2.
Otherwise set TS1 = TS2.

b) Calculation of offset calibration constants ox, oy
This calibration step is only required if the absolute
accuracy with respect to the aiming point is needed,
i.e. in the production testing of weapons.
For ammunition testing this calibration step is
usually not required, because only the relative
precision is evaluated.
Measure the distance in X and Y direction for the
same shot No. On the paper target and the
electronic target. Calculate and enter offset
calibration constants (ox, oy):
paper target electronic target
x_coordinate –34 mm –39 mm
y_coordinate –28 mm –8 mm
ox = (x_coordinate_paper target) - (y_coordinate_ electronic target)
ox = (–34) – (–39) = 5
oy = (y_coordinate_paper target) - (y_coordinate_ electronic target)
oy = (–28) – (–8) = –20
Check shifting of coordinates in the Target Window.
The new calibration constants are only adapted for the
current series of zeroing shots. To adapt them as new
default values, proceed according to section 3.5.

3.5 Update Default Calibration Constants
a) Use menu Calibration > Activate Calibration.
b) Enter password.
c) Use menu Calibration > Target Calibration and
set new calibration constants.
3.6 Verification
Replace paper target and repeat previous measurement
for verification of results.
In case of difference greater than the guaranteed
accuracy of the target system (see technical parameters)
repeat the calibration process. If problem persists,
contact Kistler Service.
