Introduction

Setup Leak Function on Heise Gauge
Introduction
The purpose of the leak isolation kit is to help find a leak in a sterilizer by isolating the chamber drain, steam to
chamber, and transducer piping. The leak isolation tool uses the sterilizer’s vacuum source to pull a vacuum on the leak
isolation test kit’s piping, the chamber drain piping, the steam to chamber piping, and the transducer piping. Using the
ball valves on the tool, the piping sections can be isolated to help determine the source of the leak.
NOTE: The leak isolation tool does not pinpoint the exact component that is causing the leak; it just shows which piping
assembly has a leak. If the leak is not in the chamber drain, steam to chamber, and transducer piping, then it will not
show up while using this tool.
Figure 1-1 shows the leak isolation kit connected to a sterilizer.

1. Open door and insert safety pins.
2. Turn off the steam and electric to the sterilizer and use LOTO. Allow chamber to cool.
3. Install the correct Rubber Port Plug and washers onto the drain plug adapter shaft. Make sure the lock nut is
tightened all the way to the end of the threads, but do not over tighten.
4. Install the correct Rubber Port Plug and washers onto the Transducer plug adapter shaft. Make sure the lock nut
is tightened all the way to the end of the threads, but do not over tighten.

5. Remove the chamber drain strainer.
6. Verify that the chamber drain port is clean and free of debris. Clean as necessary.
7. Install the drain plug adapter in the chamber drain port. Make sure the rubber sealing part of the plug is inside
the drain nipple.
IMPORTANT: Do not push plug adapter to the bottom of the drain.
8. Tighten the plug adapter until it is secure.
IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten!
9. Verify that the transducer port is clean and free of debris. Clean as necessary.
10. Install the transducer plug adapter in the transducer port. Make sure the rubber sealing part of the plug is inside

Test Piping in the BOX and Heise Gauge Piping
1. Open all the ball valves on the test ports in the box except the one with no tubing connected.
2. Power up the sterilizer and go to the I/O screen in service mode.
3. Turn on VP1 vacuum pump and S3 valve. Pull a vacuum on the test fixture and piping to the limit of system.
4. Close the ball valves on the test ports in the box.
5. Turn off S3 valve and VP1 vacuum pump. Be sure to close S3 before turning off VP1.
6.
PTE-1 Heise Gauge: Press the LEAK button on the Heise gauge until TIMING is displayed to leak test the
piping in the box and the piping to Heise. A 60 second timer will start counting down on the Heise gauge. At
the end of the 60 seconds, the Heise will display a decay value. If the decay value is less than .2, continue
with the next step; if the decay is greater than .2, fix the leak in the test fixture prior to going to the next
step.
PTE-2 Heise Gauge: To run a Decay leak test:
a. Press the MENU button.
b. Select Modes and press the ENTER button.
c. Select Decay leak test and press the ENTER button.
d. Select 60 seconds and press the ENTER button.
A 60 second timer will start counting down on the Heise gauge. At the end of the 60 seconds, the Heise will
display a decay value. If the decay value is less than .2, continue with the next step; if the decay is greater
than .2, fix the leak in the test fixture prior to going to the next step.

Analyzing the Results Obtained from Previous Tests
1. Compare the decays from the drain port, the transducer port, and the steam piping. If done properly, the piping
section with the largest decay is most likely the source of the leak.
2. Repair leak and repeat the test to verify that the leak is fixed.
3. After the leak has been repaired, air break the system, disconnect and remove all testing components, and
return the sterilizer normal operating condition.
NOTE: When the plug adapters are not in use, loosen the wingnut to take the pressure off the rubber plugs and to
prevent the rubber plugs from getting deformed.
