And thank you for purchasing the NCR WorldMark 4380 Server. This document will guide you
through the steps needed to set up your server for the first time.
Note: No boards should be removed from or added to the server until after operating system
installation is complete.

To unpack the system:
1. Remove the foam “packing ring” from around the server.
2. Remove the protective plastic from around the server.
3. Remove the shipping insert in the tape drive.
Make sure you have everything to complete the hardware installation:
Either an external modem with AC power cable, serial port cable, and phone cable or a Server
Management Board with internal modem, serial port cable, and phone cable
Monitor (customer provided), keyboard, mouse, and associated cables
Antistatic wrist strap

System Site Log
Remove the server off the pallet by the best means available (hoist or by hand). Place server in a
location that is in accordance with the specifications in the Site Preparation Guide.

IMPORTANT: Do not modify or use the supplied AC power cord if it is not the exact type
required. Replace it, if necessary. Make sure the supplied power cord is compatible with the AC
wall outlet type in the area where the server is to be installed.
The wall receptacle must be terminated in grounding-type male plug designed for use in the region,
and be labeled as certified by an agency acceptable in the region.
When you are sure that you have the correct power cord, plug it into the server AC power
connector.
Do not plug the power cord into the wall outlet yet.

IMPORTANT: Do not plug in the server before connecting peripherals.
You need to install:
Keyboard
Video monitor
Mouse
You must install a monitor and keyboard to configure the system. You may remove the monitor
and keyboard after running the System Configuration Utility (SCU).
Connect external peripheral devices such as a printer by following instructions included with the
device.
Connect a parallel printer to parallel port LPT1. Connect a serial printer to serial port COM2.
The following figure shows the location of external connector for peripheral devices.

IMPORTANT: Do not plug in the server before connecting peripherals.
For the server containing a Server Management Board with an internal modem, follow the
procedures below to allow remote support functionality.
For the server containing an SMB with an internal modem:
Run the external cable from “Comm In” to COM1 on the back of the chassis.
Connect your telephone line into the “Line” connector on the SMB.

To install the modem:
1. Connect the enclosed computer interface cable from the 9-pin COM1 port on the server to the
25-pin connector on the modem.
2. Connect the modem power supply cable to the power supply connector.
3. Connect the telephone line cable from the analog modem connection in your facility to the
RJ11 connector on the modem.
4. Plug the modem power supply into the AC power outlet.
5. Place modem on top of the server. The power LED should be illuminated.

If a network adapter is installed, you need to plug your network cable into the appropriate network
connector.
The network connector is located in one of the 15 PCI or 4 EISA add-in board slots. The exact
location of the network connector depends upon the type of network card you order.

The system requires up to three AC power receptacles as follows:
Server 200-240 Vac
Modem Power Supply 110/220 Vac (if applicable)
Monitor 110/200 Vac
Plug the server, modem power supply (as applicable), and monitor power cords into a grounded
AC electrical outlet. It is recommended that you do not use an extension cord.

If your server has the optional battery support system, switch the local battery disconnect switch
on the back of the server to the “On” position before turning on the server. Refer to the figure in
the “Connect Peripherals” section for the location of the battery disconnect switch.
To turn on the server:
1. Turn on the monitor.
2. Turn on the system by pressing the power on/off switch (green push-button switch located next
to the 3.5-inch diskette drive).
3. Verify that the power LED (left-most light) on the front panel is lit.
4. Watch the monitor screen as the system boots up. After a few seconds, POST (Power-On Self-
Test) starts running. Wait until the following message displays:
Press <D> to boot Diagnostic Partition
Press <F1> for normal boot, <F2> for BIOS Setup
Otherwise, <F1> is selected in 30 seconds
PRESS “D” IMMEDIATELY.

To verify remote support functionality, follow the steps below.
1. After pressing “D” to boot the Diagnostic Partition, set up your server to enable COM1 by
selecting the following menu options:
Run Utilities and Diagnostics > System Config Utils > Execute SCU >
Step 3: Change Configuration Settings
At the Password Menu, press ESC to continue. Then, select these menu options:

Select and verify the indicating setting for the option below:

2. While in the System Board section, scroll down to Console Redirection to verify the following
settings:

Serial Port Baud Rate Enter the baud rate for the remote support modem: 38.4K Baud
Flow Control CTS/RTS & CD
Press ESC twice to return to the SCU Main menu. Select Step 4: Save Configuration and
press ENTER. Select Step 6: Exit and press ENTER.
At the Confirm Exit message, select Yes. At the prompt, press any key to continue.
3. Press ESC until you reach the Main Menu on the “Welcome to NCR Utilities” screen.
4. Select the modem vendor by selecting the indicated options:
Remote Support > Modem Utilities > Configure Modem >
Edit Modem Profile > 1. Select Modem Vendor > 1. Lasat
5. Select option 3 to exit and return to the previous menu.
6. Select the Set Password/Country option. To verify country information, select the following
options:

Note: If your country information is not correct, modify using option 2. Change Country
Code. If your country does not appear for selection, contact your customer service
representative.
Select 3. Exit to return to the Set Password/Country Options menu.
7. Select 1. Administer Passwords to define a (1) call-through password for NCR Remote
Support Verification or a (2) call-back password or call-through password if you are verifying
from your own help desk.
Select 2. Define Password. Wait for the Enter the password number you want to change or
press <Enter> to escape message. Type 0 and press ENTER to define a remote call-through
password.

At the Enter Password prompt, enter a password of your choice and verify that password. The
password can be from 6 to 12 characters in length. Be sure to make a note of the password for
later reference.
When prompted, do not enter a call-back telephone number; press ENTER to continue. Select
the option 4. Enable Password Checking.
Select 6. Exit from the Administer Password Options menu. Select 3. Exit from the Set
Password/Country Options menu. At the prompt, press any key to continue.
Note: Do not reboot at this point.
8. Press ESC to return to the Modem Utilities menu. Select the options Auto-answer On/Off >
Enable Auto Answer.
At the prompt, press any key to continue.
9. Press ESC until you reach the Main Menu. Select Reboot System. At the Reboot Now
message, press ENTER.
10. Watch the screen as the server boots up. After a few seconds, POST starts running. The
following message displays:
Press <D> to boot Diagnostic Partition
Press <F1> for normal boot, <F2> for BIOS Setup
Otherwise, <F1> is selected in 30 seconds
Press D immediately to boot to the Diagnostic Partition. Select Run Utilities and Diagnostics
to access the Diagnostic Partition.
11. You are now ready to call NCR to verify the remote support function. To call NCR:
Dial 1-800-531-2222 in the United States and Canada (other countries contact your local
NCR representative for the remote support number in your area).
Use 4300 as your four-digit identification number.
When an NCR representative answers, indicate that you are performing an initial
installation of your WorldMark 4380 and that you want to verify remote support
functionality. You will need to provide the modem telephone number and password.
12. After verification, the NCR representative will delete the remote password to disable the call-
through password, disconnect the call, and reboot the server remotely.
When the server reboots, watch the screen and at the Press <D>to boot Diagnostic Partition,
<F1> to resume, <F2> to setup message, press F1 to boot to your operating system and continue
with the installation of your server.

Use this table to determine the installation procedure that you must follow from the guides above.
If operating system was You need to:
Pre-loaded at the factory Complete a Factory Installation
NOT pre-loaded at the factory Perform a Full Installation
Windows NT Server Setup
You must answer several questions correctly to complete the installation of Windows NT Server. If
you do not answer these questions correctly, you might have to re-install the operating system.
Make sure you have the following information before continuing with the Windows NT Server
installation:
Name of your domain or workgroup.
Unique name of this system.
Whether the system is to be a Primary Domain Controller (PDC), a Backup Domain Controller
(BDC), or Stand-Alone Server.
Note: NT Setup may fail on servers with mixed processor steppings. Typically, the floppy drive
fails to operate, although other failures may occur. In such cases, it is necessary to disable all
processors. After installing NT, re-enable the processors.
After installing your operating system, basic server installation is complete.
