INSTALLATION:
Full installation details are given in the Dennard 2060 Operation Manual, but these notes should get
you started.
The Dennard 2060 arrives in a large box containing the dome plus the power supply box (this box
can also house the optional 8 channel alarm card or drx external protocol converter card). Any
mounting bracket will be boxed separately.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS:
The multicore cable tail from the dome comprises a co-ax, two power conductors and two RS 485
control conductors and an overall screen with drain wire.
There are some differences in wiring depending on how the dome is being controlled. Be careful to
wire to the supplied circuit or as follows.
For Dennard 2060 up the co-ax controlled units.
Bring the multicore tail from the dome into the PSU box via weatherproof glands and connect as
follows:
NOTE: The green and the yellow RS485 data wires are not used but should be parked in the
two-way terminal block provided. NOT LEFT LOOSE IN THE BOX!
For Dennard 2060 drx units.
Bring the multicore tail from the dome into the PSU box via a weatherproof cable gland and connect
it up as follows:
Co-ax
Fit a BNC connector to both incoming and outgoing co-ax cables and
join with a suitable inline connector.
Power
Connect the RED wire to the fused terminal block marked 24Va.c “L”
Connect the BLUE wire to the fused terminal block marked 24Va.c”N”
The power supply box needs a mains supply, which should be
connected to the fused terminal block marked 240Va.c.
Drain Wire Do not connect this as it is already connected at the dome end.
Co-ax
Fit a BNC connector and plug it into the “CAMERA” BNC socket on the
drx p.c.b.
Power
Connect the RED wire to the fused terminal block marked 24V a.c. “L”
Connect the BLUE wire to the fused terminal block marked 24V a.c. “N”
The power supply box needs a mains supply, which should be connected
to the fused terminal block marked 240Va.c.
Drain Wire Do not connect this as it is already connected at the dome end.
For RS485 units
Bring the multicore tail from the dome into the PSU box via weatherproof glands and connect as
follows:
The Power Supply Box needs a mains supply, which should be connected to the fused terminal
block marked 240V a.c. Fit a BNC to the incoming co-ax from the controller and connect it to the
“TELEMETRY” BNC socket on the p.c.b.
ADDRESSING THE DOME
Because the dome can be driven either up the co-ax or by RS485 it is very important to get this
setting correct.
The following settings are for up the coax control units
Columbus transmitters should be set to Baxall a/c …. standard mode, set the Dome to: Baxall
a/c panel i.e. set blue switch to F and set yellow switch to C
Baxall & Vista transmitters should be set to Baxall d/c … standard mode set Dome to: Baxall d/c
panel i.e. set blue switch to F and set yellow switch to E
Dennard, Building Block Video & Dedicated Micros transmitters should be set to BBV protocol and
the Dome should be set to: Den panel i.e. set blue switch to F and set yellow switch to D
(This is the default setting for Domes ordered as Dennard 2060 or Dennard 2060 coax)
Co-ax
Fit a BNC connector to both incoming and outgoing co-ax cables and join
with a suitable inline connector
RS485
Connect the GREEN wire to… TX/RX - or B
Connect the YELLOW wire to… TX/RX + or A
RS485
Connect the GREEN wire to p.c.b. Grey terminal block J3 terminal C1
Connect the YELLOW wire to p.c.b. Grey terminal block J3 terminal C2
For Dennard 2060 drx units
These domes can be controlled from any controller that can be set to output BBV up the coax
protocols e.g. Dennard, Building Block Video & Dedicated Micros
The dome is addressed with the blue switch on 0 and the yellow switch on 1
(Dennard 2060 drx domes are supplied with this setting by default)
For RS485 control units
The domes need to be addressed to the camera positions and the address switch setting table can
be found in the Dennard 2060 Operation Manual.
SETTING UP PRESETS
Preset positions of 16 or less may be set up using the controller programming facility. For preset
numbers over 16 then the Dennard 2060 dome programming must be used. The controller buttons
used to achieve Dennard 2060 menu access for the more popular Controllers are shown in the
Dennard Menu System manual.
When the preset number has been keyed in an “Alphabet Menu” will appear offering you the
chance to identify that preset. To do that, select a letter by moving the cursor to a position under the
letter by using the joystick then press the keyboard “accept” command to place it on the monitor. Do
this for each letter required to spell out the location name. Finally move the cursor to Accept Entry
and press the “accept” command button(s), which will clear the menu. If identification is not
required, move the cursor directly to the Accept Entry prompt and “accept”.
BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
No picture
Check the PSU input and output voltages.
Check the PSU fuse.
Check the continuity on the dome multicore cable: PIN 1=Video PIN 2=Video Screen PIN
3=Data+(yellow) PIN 4=Data- (green) PIN 5=18volt neutral (blue) PIN 6=18Volt live (red) PIN
7=Earth (drain wire)
Picture with no control
If the control is via a DRX protocol converter, or any other type of protocol converter make sure the
data cables have been connected and are in the correct positions.
Check that the dome address switches are set in the correct position for the type of controller being
used.
Picture with intermittent control
This problem is often due to too much or too little video gain.
If you are using the DOME in the co-ax mode then the video levels need to be set up to 1 volt p-p.
This is achieved by accessing the Technician Menu of the dome. Select Miscellaneous Services
and from this menu select Host Comms / Video Amp and adjust lift and gain to suit.
If the dome is being controlled via an external protocol converter (DAX-DEN or DRX100) then the
dome’s internal video gain should be set to Video gain1 / normal and set the Video lift off. These
setting are accessed through the Technician Menu by selecting the Miscellaneous Services
option followed by the Video amp settings.
On Baxall controllers, alphabet menu appears when the joystick is touched.
This is because the Baxall controller has been configured to “Alternate “ mode, it should be set to
“Standard” mode with Rx as “dc”, NOT a.c.
On Dedicated Micros & BBV controllers the Dome spins continuously
This could be due to there being no “dead band” on the joystick, caused by the joystick being off
centre on power up. Power the controller down then power up again ensuring that the joystick is
free to self-centre.
To reset the dome (If the menu can be accessed)
This is done by accessing the dome Technician menu and selecting Miscellaneous services,
followed by NVM Services. Reload factory defaults will reset the dome to the original factory
settings. Note, however, that it will also remove all preset positions and tours from the memory.
This procedure should take about 40 seconds.
