1.0 Description
The Water Block is designed to be installed upstream of any Zip product and associated pipe-
work to minimise the potential for water leakage in the event of a system malfunction.
The Water Block is ideal for limiting potential leakage and resulting water damage from water
heaters, water chillers etc. when fitted in supply pipe work that is subject to mains water pressure.
Once set, the Water Block will ensure that the volume of water that can flow through at one time
is limited to a pre-determined maximum, providing the flow rate through it exceeds 2 litres per
minute.
The Water Block also incorporates a non-return valve.
The Water Block is WRAS approved.
1.1 Precautions
The Water Block will help to contain leakage exceeding a rate of 2 l/min.
Note The leakage at lower flow rates may not be detected by the Water Block and could remain
unchecked.
Appropriate measures should be taken to contain leakage in these circumstances.

Note. This device must be installed vertically with the direction of flow
downwards (inlet at the top , outlet at the bottom. See Fig 1 adjacent).
The Water Block should be installed in a convenient location on the water
supply line to the Zip product.
Pointer ‘P’ (see Fig.3) should be rotated until in line with the maximum required flow at
one time. Each number on the scale corresponds to 5 litres of flow i.e. 1 = 5 litres, 10 = 50
litres.
The adjustment key (see Fig.2) should be used to adjust the pointer.
The inlet should be connected via an 15mm isolation valve (not supplied).
The outlet shall be connected via the 15mm - 1/2” brass compression fitting supplied.
Ensure that the direction of flow through the Water Block is correct and that the filter
screen (see Fig.2) is inserted correctly with the convex surface facing towards the water
supply.

1.3 Reset Procedure
The Water Block will activate and shut off the supply if more water than the set amount is drawn off at one time.
In this event firstly isolate and de-pressurise the water supply to the Water Block, identify and repair the cause of
the leak then remove the pipe-work downstream of the Water Block and press the reset button ‘H’ (see Fig.3).
The reset device (see Fig.2) may be fitted to avoid disconnection. This allows the Water Block to be reset by
operating the lever in the direction shown in Fig.2.
In the event of persistent tripping contact Zip for advice on 0345 6 005 005.

Installation - Section 5 Commissioning
5.0 Commissioning
Once your system is installed it is recommended that during the commissioning process it is sanitised to
the current guidelines before first use. Zip HydroChill models have a free commissioning service please
contact us on 0345 6 005 005 to book your visit.
Secure all pipes and cables. After the system is correctly installed and connected, turn the incoming mains cold
water supply on then purge the system of air (follow the instruction in the Filter replacement, page 13).
Due to the factory sanitisation process, residue from the sanitisation liquid might remain in the product, which
requires the products to be flushed with fresh water at installation. So the first few glasses of water may look soapy
with presence of bubbles. As part of the purge process, dispense 10 litres of water from the tap, then check that the
water is clear, and that there are no soapy looking bubbles in the dispensed water.
Check all connections for leaks. Repair as necessary, again turn the incoming mains cold water supply on,
re-purge and then turn on the mains electricity supply.
The chiller unit takes up to 20 minutes to chill it’s contents to the rated temperature, depending on the ambient
temperature of the water.
!
Operation
HydroChill heavy duty - Chilled only
Chilled water is obtained by pulling the lever on the tap forward. The water is chilled
by a refrigeration unit fitted within the under counter chiller.
Using the Heavy Duty tap chilled water within the rated capacity can be dispensed for
as long as the lever is pulled forward.
The lever will self return, and close the tap once finger pressure has been removed.
Pull
Bubbler (optional)
Chilled water is dispensed momentarily by pressing the bubbler button.
Water will stop flowing once the button is released.

Filter timer indicator
The HydroChill incorporates a filter timer module including a micro-controller-programmable, extended
duration timer. It is programmable from one to six months in duration.
A red Light Emitting Diode (LED) that shows through the front label will flash once per second when the
selected filter time has elapsed, as a reminder to replace the filter. The unit will stay in this state until the
batteries are exhausted. (To replace the batteries , & reset the timer, see ‘Filter timer module’, page 14).

For safe operation, the filter cartridge should be replaced at least every 6 months,
or earlier if you notice a persistent reduction in water pressure from the tap or an
unpleasant taste or odour in the water.
For safe operation, thoroughly flush the water through after periods of non-use
longer than 12 hours.
Not changing the filter cartridges when required may cause the water to become
biologically unsafe.
Use only a Zip filter to match the one used in your chiller product (see Spare parts
page 5). The filter cartridge can be obtained directly from Zip, visit www. zipwater.
co.uk or alternatively call Zip on 0345 6 005 005.
The filter is located behind the front access panel on the HydroChill. The installation
date should be written on the filter cartridge. No special tools or skills are required
to install the filter cartridge.
Disconnect the mains electricity supply.
Unscrew the front panel (2 screws at bottom of panel) & lift out to locate the filter.
Grasp the filter cartridge firmly and twist it horizontally a quarter turn clockwise until
it stops.
Some water will drip from the filter head during the replacement process so it is a
good idea to have a bucket and cloth handy to catch and mop up any spills.
Ensure that the electrical connections do not get wet.
Gently ease the cartridge downwards to detach it from the filter head, then pull it out
and discard responsibly. Take care not to tip it up once free as water may spill out.
Write the date of replacement on the new filter cartridge label.
Remove the protective plastic cap. Insertion method is opposite to removal.
Align the tabs of the replacement cartridge with the filter head and insert it up into
the filter head.
Turn the replacement cartridge a quarter turn anti-clockwise until it stops and locks
into position.
When the filter replacement has been completed, purge the system of trapped air by
dispense water from the tap until it flows without any further spluttering. Run 10 litres
of water through the system to complete the purge.
Refit the front panel, clean the stainless steel surfaces, wipe dry any water spills.
Reconnect the mains electricity supply, & wait for the water to cool before drinking.
