1. Estime 3000 230V Flash Head (BW-2970)
1.1 This head is designed for use with the Estime 3000AMF and 3000SC Generators and is suitable for
use with the Traveller G range. Operating from a nominal 230 Volt mains supply only, the head
provides the following features:-
Takes the standard 'S' series reflectors and accessories as used on all the Bowens Prolites, Esprit
and 'S' type Quadmatic Flash Heads.
230V cooling fan.
650 Watt, maximum modelling power.
Two pin plug-in lamp holder. Recommended Halogen bulb - P2/16 hair pin, long life type.
Uncoated flash tube with a separate UV coated Pyrex glass dome fitted as standard over the
modelling lamp and flash tube for safety. Clear, frosted and other dome types are also available
as accessories for special applications.
An illuminated modelling lamp on/off switch is fitted on the rear moulding of the flash head
allowing the modelling light of individual flash heads to be switched off without affecting other
heads connected to the same Generator.
2. Safety Notes
2.1 Cover glass domes should always be fitted during use.
2.2 The Estime system must not be used in an environment where moisture or flammable vapour is
likely to come into contact with the unit.
2.3 A Fire Hazard exists if inflammable material is placed in close proximity to either the flash tube or
modelling lamp when the flash head is in use.
2.4 The modelling light is protected by a 6,3 Amp (F) quick blow 20mm fuse. Always replace with a
fuse of identical rating.
2.5 Switch off and disconnect the flash head from the Generator before changing the glass dome, flash
tube, modelling lamp, fuse or reflector. Be aware that the front assembly of the head can reach
extremely high temperatures when in use and should be allowed to cool before attempting to replace
these parts.
2.6 Do not restrict slots in the case during and after use.
2.7 Always switch off the generator before plugging in or unplugging the flash head.
3. Operation

3.2 Mount the head on the selected support system. Fit the required reflector and/or accessories. If an
umbrella is to be used then a 'spill kill’ should be fitted and the umbrella shaft inserted through the
hole B (Fig.2) and locked in position with the knurled screw C (Fig.2).

3.3 The angle of the flash head may be set by using locking handle D (Fig.2). Support the flash head
before releasing the locking handle.
3.4 Ensure that the Generator is switched off and then plug the flash head into one of the output sockets
as determined by the required power settings on the Generator. Insert the tab on front of flash head
plug into the socket first and press down firmly on the cable entry to ensure that the connector is
retained by the latch. To remove the plug press the spring latch and lift from the cable entry end.
3.5 Switch the Generator ‘ON’ and test the operation of the flash head, modelling lamp and flash, when
ready.
4. Fitting/Removing Reflector
4.1 A range of reflectors is
available for the Estime
3000 flash head. To fit,
slide the neck of the
reflector over the front of
the flash head, align the
three pegs on the reflector
with the three slots in the
retaining ring, press down
and turn clockwise.
4.2 To remove the reflector
press the latch knob A
(Fig.3) in the direction of
the arrow, turn the
reflector fully anti-
clockwise and withdraw.
5. Replacing Modelling Lamps
5.1 Always switch the Generator ‘OFF’ and remove the connector to isolate the head before replacing
fuses or bulbs.
5.2 The modelling lamp switch incorporates a neon indicator which may be used as a fault finding guide
if the modelling lamp fails to light. If the modelling lamp is not lit but the head switch is on and the
pack controls have no effect then:-
1. First, if possible, check the operation of other heads connected to the same Generator. If these do
not work and the Generator appears to be working then check/change the Generator modelling
fuse after checking the heads for faults or broken lamps.
2. Check that the head switch is on and that the neon is lit. If the neon is not lit then check that the
fan in the head is running. If not then check/change the Generator modelling fuse.
3. If the fan is running and the neon is off then check/change the modelling fuse in the head.
4. If the modelling lamp is off with the modelling switch on and the neon lit then check/change the
modelling lamp.

5.3 The fuse to protect the modelling lamp circuit A (Fig.1) is retained under the coloured handle insert
B (Fig.1). To remove the moulding insert a finger nail under the slot and pull backwards. Always
replace this fuse with a fuse of identical rating.
5.4 As the fuse may blow when a modelling lamp fails, always check the fuse if a replacement lamp
does not work.
5.5 Ensure that the head has cooled sufficiently before touching the glass dome.
5.6 Remove the reflector (Fig.3) to gain access to the glass dome.
5.7 Remove the glass dome by depressing the dome retaining buttons B (Fig.3) and lifting it away from
flash head.
5.8 Take care removing the old modelling lamp from the holder, particularly if the glass is broken.
5.9 Do not touch the replacement modelling lamp with fingers, use clean impervious cloth or paper or
the new lamp packaging materials.
5.10 Plug the replacement modelling lamp into the holder.
5.11 Hook the glass dome over one of the dome retaining buttons, depress the other button and refit dome
over the ridge in the top-hat. The correct holes are marked with a small white line. Ensure that both
buttons drop into the retaining holes in the dome.
5.12 Replace the reflector as required.
5.13 Discard the old modelling lamp safely using the packaging from the new lamp.
6. Flash Tube Replacement
6.1 A user replaceable flash tube assembly is available - Part No. BW-2980
NOTE: Flash tubes are very delicate, handle the assembly carefully and do not bend the
mounting legs close to the glass. Always switch off the Generator and unplug the flash head
from the Generator before changing flash tube assemblies. The flash tube assembly can
become very hot in use - always allow time to cool before handling.

7. Flash Tube Removal/Replacement
7.1 To remove the flash tube first remove the
glass dome as explained in section 5.
7.2 Unwind the twisted trigger wire from the
trigger terminal tag.
7.3 Holding the flash tube supports, ease the
flash tube assembly away from the flash
head (Fig.4)
7.4 To replace the flash tube hold the
replacement assembly as shown in (Fig.4),
locate the three brass sockets onto the plugs
in the front of the flash head.
7.5 Press down evenly until all the plugs and sockets are fully engaged. Pass the trigger wire through the
holes in the trigger terminal tag and wind around the tag, ensuring that the wire does not touch the
metal top hat.
7.6 Refit the glass dome as explained in section 5.
7.7 Discard the old flash tube safely using the packaging from the new tube.
