Safety Notes - Please Read Before Operating Head
Please read and follow these basic safety instructions:
z READ and UNDERSTAND the instructions and specifications.
z ONLY connect to an Equipe 1200 or 2400 Pack using the specified Flash Head
cables.
z NEVER replace the fuse with that of a different type or rating. See Specification
for correct value/type of fuse.
z ALWAYS avoid placing Flash Head cables where they can be tripped over.
z NEVER place heavy objects on top of the Flash Head cables and avoid running
them over sharp or hot objects.
z NEVER use the equipment with damaged cables. Have them replaced as soon as
possible. NEVER attempt to repair them yourself.
z NEVER use the Flash Heads or Pack in an environment where moisture, water
vapour or inflammable liquids, vapour or materials may come into contact with the
Pack or Flash Heads. The flash output as well as the modelling lamps can cause
ignition of or damage to materials that may come into direct or close contact with
the Flash Heads.
z ALWAYS keep ALL vents in the Heads and Pack clear of obstructions at all times.
z ONLY switch the Pack ‘ON’ AFTER THE FLASH HEAD(s) has/have been
connected.
z ALWAYS ensure that the flash cable locking rings at the Heads and Pack are fully
locked before use.
z ALWAYS remove the Flash Head cover before using.
z ALWAYS turn OFF the Pack, disconnect from the supply, unplug the Flash Head /
Heads and allow them to cool before:
a). Replacing the modelling lamp in Flash Head.
b). Replacing the flash tube in Flash Head.
c). Replacing the fuse in Flash Head or Pack.
d). Attaching or removing any accessories- i.e. ‘S’ Adapter, cover
glass, reflectors, etc.

General Features
The Equipe Head in conjunction with the Equipe 1200 & Equipe 2400 Packs have
been designed to produce the most compact, versatile and easy to use flash source
available today. The Equipe Head features include:
z Integral reflector.
z Up to 300 Watt maximum modelling power per Head.
z Built in cooling fan.
z Modelling lamp on/off switch fitted on rear moulding of the Flash Head allowing the
modelling lamp of individual Heads to be switched off without affecting other
Heads connected to the same pack.
z Special Adapter available to allow fitting of the standard ‘S’ series reflectors and
accessories as used on all the Bowens Prolites, Esprit, and Traveller Plus,
Universal and ‘S’ type Quad Flash Heads.
z UV Coated Protective Cover Glass to provide UV filtering and protection against
lamp failure.
z Optional Cover Glass Kit available including clear glass and frosted glass to
provide a diffused effect.
Operation
z Mount the Head on the selected support system. If an umbrella is to be used the
umbrella shaft should be inserted through the umbrella mounting hole and locked
in position with the knurled fixing knob (Fig. 1).
z The angle of the Flash Head may be set by using the locking handle
(Fig. 1). Support the Flash Head before releasing the handle.
z To fit a Flash Head to a Pack, first ensure the Pack is switched off and
disconnected from the supply. Fit the Flash Head cable to the head by aligning
the GREEN dots, inserting the cable plug into the Head socket and rotating the
locking ring clockwise until it locks in place. Fit the other end of the Flash Head
cable to the Pack by aligning the WHITE dots, inserting the plug into the chosen
socket and rotating the connector locking ring clockwise until it locks in place.
z Switch the Pack ‘ON’ and test the operation of the Flash Head, modelling lamp
and flash.
Fitting / Replacing Modelling Lamps
z ALWAYS switch ‘OFF’ the Pack and remove the connector to isolate the Head
before replacing the modelling lamp.
z If the modelling lamp is not lit but the Head switch is on and the pack controls
have no effect then:-
Check the operation of other Heads connected to the same Pack. If these do
not work and the Pack appears to be working then check/change the Pack
modelling fuse after checking the Heads for faults or broken lamps.
Check that the fan is running. If not then check/change the Pack modelling
fuse.
If the fan is running then check/change the modelling lamp. As the fuse may
blow when a modelling lamp fails, always check/change the modelling fuse in
the Head if the replacement lamp does not work.
- 5 -
z Ensure that the Head has cooled sufficiently before removing the old modelling
lamp from the holder.
z Ensure a replacement modelling lamp of the same voltage as the supply (230 V) is
used.
z Do not touch the replacement modelling lamp with fingers: use clean, impervious
cloth or paper, or the new lamp packaging materials.
z Insert the lamp into the holder positioned in the centre of the reflector.
z Discard the old modelling lamp safely using the packaging from the new lamp.
Circuit Protection
z Circuit protection for the modelling lamp is provided by means of a 20 mm fuse
mounted on the rear of the Head. The fuse is rated at 5 Amp and should never be
replaced with a fuse of a different type or rating.
Flash Tube Replacement
z A user replaceable flash tube assembly is available - Part No. BW-1873.
NOTE: Flash tubes are very delicate. Handle the assembly carefully and do not
bend the mounting legs close to the glass.
z ALWAYS switch ‘OFF’ the Pack and remove the connector to isolate the Head
before replacing the flash tube.
z The flash tube assembly can become very hot in use. Always allow time to cool
before handling.
z Unwind the twisted trigger wire from the flash tube support.
z Carefully pull the flash tube assembly away from the Flash Head.
z To replace the flash tube, insert the two brass sockets through the two large off-
centre holes in the reflector and locate onto the plugs within the Flash Head body.
z Press down evenly until both plugs are fully engaged. Wrap the trigger wire
around the flash tube support, ensuring that the wire does not touch the reflector.
z Discard the old flash tube safely using the packaging from the new tube.
Fitting / Replacing Cover Glass
z ALWAYS switch ‘OFF’ the Pack and remove the connector to isolate the Head
before fitting or replacing the protective cover glass.
z The cover glass can become very hot in use. Always allow time to cool before
handling.
z To fit the cover glass (Fig. 2), carefully slide it into two of the retaining clips in the
reflector. Pull the third clip outwards and clip into place over the glass to retain it
in place. Centralise the glass disc in the reflector.
z To remove the cover glass, carefully pull one of the retaining clips away from the
glass, lift the glass over the remaining clips and slide out.
Flash Power Selection/Indication
z By using the four Flash Head sockets and associated controls provided on the
1200 / 2400 Packs, many asymmetric and symmetric combinations of flash power
are available from one Flash Head through to four Flash Heads.
- 6 -
z A study of the Quick Reference Tables in the Pack Instruction Manual will explain
the possible combinations of MAXIMUM power available from the 1200 & 2400
Packs to the individual Flash Heads.
