The following safety precautions can't cover all possible hazardous
conditions.
2.2 Grounding and Lightning
Protection
1. Grounding body
The grounding body shall adopt hot-galvanized flat steel (or copper), with dimension
no less than 40mm*4mm. The vertical grounding body shall adopt
50mm*50mm*5mm (minimum) hot galvanized angle bar with length reaching 2.5m; in
case steel tube is used, the wall thickness must reach at least 3.5mm.
2. Ground lead
The ground lead shall adopt 40mm * 4mm or 50mm * 5mm hot-galvanized flat steel
with length no exceeding 30m.
3. Grounding bus bar
The grounding bus bar shall be generally copper bar with cross-sectional area no
less than 160mm2. The vertical grounding trunk for high-rise buildings shall adopt
copper bar with cross-sectional area no less than 300mm2.
4. If the distance between the grounding bus bar of respective floors and the
connecting wire of Local Expansion Bus (LEB) of equipment room is rather short,
multi-strand copper wire with cross-sectional area being 16mm2 can be used; if the
distance is long, multi-strand copper wire with cross-sectional area no less than
35mm2 must be used.
5. The network cable shall adopt shielded cables and devices at both ends shall be
reliably grounded, while the shielding jacket of network cables shall be grounded as
possible. If network cables cannot be shielded as required, the cables can be
inserted into the steel tube and buried into the ground, with both ends of the steel
tube properly grounded.
6. The lightning protector shall be installed nearby the premises-outgoing segment of
network cable.
7. In plain areas, the protection angle of antenna lightning arrester shall be less than
45 degree. In mountainous and high-lightning areas, the protection angle of antenna
lightning arrester shall be less than 30 degree. Devices like lightning arrester shall
share the grounding body with the equipment room.
8. The grounding resistance shall be less than 5 ohm. For places with high soil
resistivity, the resistance-reducing agent shall be sprinkled around the soil of
grounding body to reduce soil resistivity.
9. When AC power is used, the power cable with PE pin shall be used instead of
changing into 2-core power cable with only L and N lines. The N line must not be
connected to the protective ground used by other communication devices, while L
and N lines must not be reversed.
2.3 Site Selection
AP620-H shall not be installed in heated, dusty, inflammable or explosive
environment, or at sites with noxious gases, electromagnetic interference (i.e.,
nearby large-sized radar station, transmitting station, transformer substation and etc),
unstable voltage, notable vibration, or high noise. The installation site shall be dry and
far from the seaside (greater than 500m from seaside), while the device must not be
exposed to the sea wind. Do not install the device at places being prone to water
accumulation, water penetration, water dripping and dewing. During engineering
design, the installation site complying with communication equipment engineering
design requirements shall be selected according to communication network planning
and technical requirements of the subject communication equipment, as well as such
factors of climate, hydrology, geology, earthquake, power supply and transportation.
2.4 Temperature & Humidity
The operating temperature and humidity of the device are shown below:
Standard operating ambient temperature: -40 - 55
Storage temperature: -40 - 85
Working humidity (non-condensing): 5% - 95%
2.5 Outdoor Installation
RG-AP620-H WLAN AP is designed for direct outdoor installation and supports
wall-mount installation and pole-mount installation.
2.6 Waterproof Considerations
1. For unused interfaces, the corresponding waterproof plugs shall be processed (use
waterproof tape to rewind the screw thread of waterproof plug for three loops), and
then seal the unused interfaces with waterproof plugs.
2. After completing the installation of external cables, use waterproof tape to rewind the
cable to ensure the waterproof effect.
2.7 EMI Considerations
Various interference sources, no matter from inside or outside of the device or
application system, will have impacts on the device through capacitive coupling,
inductive coupling and electromagnetic wave radiation.
Electromagnetic interference can be divided into radiated interference and conducted
interference, which will be determined according to the type of transmission path.
Radiated interference is incurred when the energy (usually the RF energy)
transmitted by a component reaches the sensor through air. The interference source
can either be a part of the interfered system or be an electrically isolated unit. The
conducted interference is incurred when the interference source and the sensor are
connected via magnet wire or signal cable and the interfering signal is transmitted
from one unit to the other unit through the cable. Usually affecting the power supply of
device, the conducted interference can be controlled by the filter. The radiated
interference can have impact on any signal path of the device, and is difficult to
shield.
(1) Effective power grid interference control measures shall be taken against the
power supply system.
(2) The working earth of the wireless AP shall be kept far away from the earthing
installation and lightning earth of power equipment instead of sharing.
(3) The device shall be kept far away from high-power radio station, radar station and
high-frequency & heavy-current devices.
(4) Electrostatic shielding shall be applied.
2.8 Precautions for Optical
Fiber Connection
Before optical fiber connection, please make sure the optical connector matches with
the optical interface used. Meanwhile, please pay attention to the transmitting and
receiving directions of optical cable. The transmitting interface of this device shall be
connected to the receiving interface of counterpart device, while the receiving
interface of this device shall be connected to the transmitting interface of counterpart
device.

3.4 Install Outdoor Antenna
The outdoor antenna can be divided into directional outdoor antenna and
all-directional outdoor antenna. The all-directional antenna can be directly installed
onto the main unit. Install the direction antenna through the following steps.
1. Make sure the directional antenna is protected by lightning arrester. If there is no
lightning arrester nearby, a lightning arrester shall be installed at the top of hold pole.
2. Install the pole at top of building by mounting to the wall or the concrete post. Make
sure the pole is vertical to the group.
3. Properly ground the hold pole by using 40m4mm flat steel to connect the pole to
the lightning protection ground mat, and make sure the joint between flat steel and
ground mat is rustless.
4. According to the installation guide for directional antenna, use the mounting
bracket to mount the directional outdoor antenna onto the hold pole, and then adjust
the angle, as shown below:
Install the directional outdoor antenna
2. Mount the all-directional outdoor antenna onto the hold pole.
Pay attention to the following precautions when installing the all-directional outdoor
antenna:
1. When installing the all-directional antenna, the lightning arrester must not be
directly welded onto the hold pole (there mustn't be any metallic object within 1m
horizontal reach of the all-directional antenna). Instead, a lightning arrester must be
separately erected between the hold poles of two all-directional antennae. The height
of lightning arrester must allow the top of all-directional antenna to be covered by the
protection angle.
2. After the installation, make sure the top of hold pole is flush with the lower anchor
ear of the antenna.
3. The height of antenna must meet the signal coverage requirements, and the top of
antenna must be covered by the 45-degree protection angle of the lightning arrester.
