11. AIR FLOW MEASUREMENT DEVICE
The CentriFlow 3D fans are equipped with an air flow measure-
ment device as standard. The measurement method is based
on differential pressure between the fan inlet cone and the suc-
tion chamber upstream of the fan. The air flow sensor nipple is
supplied as factory mounted in the inlet cone but the reference
pressure sensor has to be positioned inside the suction cham-
ber upstream of the fan in a place without instable flows (i.e. in
the suction chamber corner). The air flow sensor is suitable for
pneumatic hoses with inner diameter of 5 mm.

The air flow of a single fan can be calculated as a function of
coefficient k and the differential pressure manometer reading
Δpm by the following formula:
q
v
= air flow, m
3
/s
k = k-factor, see table below
Δp
m

11.2 MULTIPLE FANS IN PARALLEL (FAN WALL)
When using multiple fans in parallel the total air flow can be
measured by connecting the pneumatic hoses from the fans
together as shown in picture below and calculating the air flow
by following formula using the same k factors as used with single
fan:
𝑚
N = number of fans in parallel
Please note that this requires that all the fans are running. If the
air flow needs to be measured when all the fans are not running
simultaneously the differential pressure measurement has to be
taken from all the fans separately and adding the measured air
flows together to get the total air flow.
11.3 ACCURACY
The air flow measurement device has an accuracy of ±10 % in
measured air flow when the fan is installed so that stable inflow
conditions are secured. The accuracy can be improved by cali-
brating the k factor on site. When there is a side connection or
some other obstacle or rapid flow direction change upstream of
the fan that can cause instable flow pattern to the fan inlet, the
accuracy can be improved by using the air flow measurement
device with 4 pressure nipples (available as an accessory).
