Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of
the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method
of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent
degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any
repairs or alterations made by a user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telephone
communications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
Users should ensure for their own protection, that the electrical ground connections of the power utility,
telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution

Overview
EdgeMarc 6400LF2
The EdgeMarc 6400LF2 converged networking router is an intelligent, all-in-one networking
solution for enterprises and service providers. It reduces costs by simplifying the deployment,
management and security of converged voice, video and data networks. The EdgeMarc
6400LF2 provides the following important functions for converged networks:
Security
A stateful packet inspection firewall is used in combination with a voice over IP (VoIP)
application layer gateway to provide comprehensive “media-aware” security.
VoIP
The 6400LF2 resolves NAT/FW traversal problems for SIP, MGCP and H.323 traffic. It
allows a single public IP address to be used for multiple VoIP clients. VoIP survivability is
also provided so that local SIP PSTN gateways are available for inbound and outbound
calling during WAN link failures.
Quality of Service
The 6400LF2 maximizes WAN link utilization while optimizing voice quality using
prioritization and shaping.
Call Quality Monitoring
The 6400LF2 provides passive call quality monitoring statistics for each VoIP call to
enforce SLAs and resolve networking problems that negatively affect call quality.
Future-proof Scalability
The 6400LF2 is a powerful, flexible platform that can be deployed initially as a low-cost
WAN access router and then licensed through software for more advanced VoIP features
and increased call performance. It is the ideal platform for service providers offering DIA,
hosted VoIP and managed security services or enterprises migrating to converged voice
and data networks.

EdgeView 6400LF2
EdgeView is a sophisticated yet easy to use management tool designed to simplify the
management and monitoring of converged voice, video and data networks. It provides several
important features to service providers and enterprises using Edgewater’s EdgeMarc and
EdgeProtect Series products:
Software image management and upgrade of Edgewater nodes
Configuration backup and restore for Edgewater nodes
Configuration of Edgewater nodes using an authenticated, central console
Monitoring of VoIP call quality and related statistics
Extensive trend analysis and reporting for items such as uptime, link utilization, call
quality, etc.
Context sensitive, online troubleshooting tips linked to Edgewater’s real-time problem
resolution knowledgebase

EdgeProtect 6400LF2
The EdgeProtect 6400LF2 is designed to protect managed VoIP service providers and
enterprise customers from network-based attacks. It combines topology hiding, dynamic
session admission control and stateful packet inspection to secure critical voice, video and data
infrastructure components.

In either service provider or enterprise environments, the EdgeProtect 6400LF2 is usually
installed at the edge of the operations center to secure critical voice, video, and data
infrastructure components such as VoIP softswitches, video gatekeepers, gateways, and
media servers.
Resolves firewall traversal problems at the Network Operations Center for VoIP by
providing a VoIP application layer gateway (ALG) or voice and video aware firewall that
supports SIP, MGCP and H.323
Resolves firewall traversal problems at customer offices for VoIP by providing NAT-
Traversal capability for SIP.
Supports up to 1,000 concurrent VoIP calls or up to 85 Mbps of H.323 video traffic
Protects the enterprise LAN using a stateful packet inspection (SPI) firewall for both
voice and data traffic
Performs static IP routing
Provides integrated test tools to facilitate problem isolation
Performs TFTP relay for IP phone images
Uses a simple web based GUI for configuration and management
Supports logging to external syslog servers and interfaces to network management
systems using SNMP

System Identification LED
The blue system identification LED is used to help identify a system for servicing. This is especially
useful when the system is installed when in a high-density rack or cabinet that is populated with
several similar systems. The system ID LED will blink when the System ID button on the control
panel is pressed or it can be illuminated remotely through server management software.

Getting Started
Physical Installation
The 6400LF2 is designed for rack installation. Observe the following guidelines when installing
the system:
Always verify that the 6400LF2 is disconnected from a power source prior to installation.
Ensure that the installation site has adequate air circulation and meets the minimum
operating conditions for the system as specified in Specifications section of this document
Bracket Kit Installation Procedures
This bracket kit allows you to install 6400LF2 platform in most four-post rack and cabinet
systems.

Mounting in a Four-Post Rack System
Remove the Chassis Handles
1. Remove two screws (Figure 2) from each handle.
2. Set the handles and screws aside for reattachment later.

Attach Brackets to Chassis
1. Place a chassis bracket along one side of the chassis in the front-mount
position (Figure 1, A).
2. Align the holes (B) in the bracket with the tabs (C) on the chassis and place the
bracket against the chassis.
3. Slide the bracket as far as it will go toward the front of the chassis.
4. Fasten the bracket to the chassis using screw (D).
5. In the same manner, attach a chassis bracket to the other side of the chassis.

Attach Disks to Chassis
1. Place a chassis disk at the side of the chassis towards the rear (see Figure 4,
A).
2. Install screw (B) and tighten.
3. In the same manner, attach a chassis disk to the opposite side of the chassis.

Attach Brackets to Rear Posts
1. Attach a nut bar (Figure 5, C) on the inside of the two rear rack posts using
screws (A). Do not completely tighten the screws—leave them loose enough to
allow insertion of the brackets in step 2.
2. Insert the slotted foot of a rear bracket (B) between each nut bar and post.
3. Align the face of the bracket foot with the edge of the rack post and firmly
tighten the screws.

4. Install Chassis in Rack
CAUTION
Lifting the chassis and attaching it to the rack is a two-person job. If needed, use an
appropriate lifting device. A fully loaded SR1400 server weighs approximately 13.9 kg (30.6
lbs.) and a fully loaded SR2400 server weighs approximately 23.4 kg (51.5 lbs.).
5. With the chassis front facing you, lift the chassis and position the chassis disks
(Figure 6, A) so they fit in the rear brackets (B).

6. Slide the chassis toward the rear of the rack until the front of the chassis
brackets contact the front posts.
