Removing the Transport Lock
The robot mechanism is protected from damage during shipment with a screw
mounted through the display unit bracket into the robot assembly. The screw is
marked with a red plastic tab protruding between the right magazine and the front
panel assembly.
The locking screw must be removed before the StorageLoader can operate
normally.
The locking screw will be detected when the loader is powered on. The right
magazine will then be ejected and the display will show a message indicating that the
locking screw has been detected.
Pull the magazine carefully out and keep it in level with the loader. Use one hand
under the magazine to prevent the back of the magazine to fall down when it leaves
the magazine bay.
Remove the locking screw
with a Phillips #2
screwdriver.
Reinsert the magazine by
pushing it in until it snaps
into locked position.
The loader will now continue
its Power on Sequence.
NOTE! Keep the screw in a safe place. You will need it to lock the robot if you
need to ship it back to your StorageLoader supplier for service or repair.
IMPORTANT: The warranty does not cover damage to the loader, shipped without
the locking screw properly installed.

Rack Installation
This StorageLoader is designed for use in 19” rack system using 1U of rack space.
The weight of the unit and the length of the power cord and the SCSI cable restrict
the placement. We recommend that you mount the StorageLoader in a clean
environment and away from the floor.
Attention: The StorageLoader is designed to operate in a horizontal position. Do not
attempt to operate the StorageLoader in any other position than horizontally. Also be
sure that:
The airflow around the front and back of the StorageLoader is not obstructed.
There is a minimum of 60cm free space in front of the unit to allow the
operator to safely remove the magazines.
The display and operator controls are easily accessed.
NOTE! The StorageLoader can be used both as a desktop unit and inside a 19” rack
enclosure using the special Rack Mounting Kit.
The Rack Mounting Kit includes the following items:

Installing the Rack Mounting Kit
Caution:
Consider rack stability when deciding where to place the StorageLoader!
StorageLoader 1U uses 1U of
vertical rack space. The rails must
be installed in a full U position
(The bottom of the rails must be
aligned with the bottom of a U).
Installing the Rail Left Assembly
1. Measure the length between the rear rack mount rails and the front rack mount
rails. If the measurement is shorter than the StorageLoader, move the two sets of
screws M4x12, washers and nuts shown in the next figure.
2. Adjust the “Rail Left Assembly” to fit the measurement in step 1.
3. Use a 7 mm open-end wrench together with the screwdriver to tighten the two
M4x12 screws to fix the rail length.
NOTE! Using more than two screws will increase the stability of the Rack
Mounting Kit.
4. Place the “Rail Left Assembly” on the left side of the rack, between the rear rack
mount rail and the front rack mount rail.
5. Mount the “Rail Left Assembly” at desired height using one M6x12 screw in
front (upper hole in rail only) and two M6x12 screws backside.

Installing the SCSI Adapter
The StorageLoader makes use of a standard SCSI VHDC interface connector (also
known as a miniature SCSI connector). In general most “Adaptec compatible
HBA’a may be used”. Please refer to the installation instructions supplied with the
SCSI host bus adapter for proper installation.
Connecting the StorageLoader to the
Host
The StorageLoader is designed to connect to the host with a supplied 68-pin VHDC
SCSI cable. The unit is designed with two rear connectors so that additional SCSI
devices may be daisy chained. If the StorageLoader is the last device on the
interface cable or if no other additional SCSI devices will be installed, the supplied
external terminator must be installed on the bottom SCSI connector.
Connect the other end of the SCSI cable to the host adapter installed inside the
computer.

Power Up the StorageLoader
Before connecting the StorageLoader to your host computer system you should
perform a simple self-diagnostic of the unit. This preparation requires power to the
StorageLoader. Go through the following steps to perform this test:
1. Plug a suitable power cable into the socket on the rear of the StorageLoader.
2. Plug the other end of the cable into a properly grounded electrical outlet. The
power ratings for the AC power is 90-264 VAC, 0,5 – 0,3 A, 47-63 Hz.
3. To perform the Power On Self Test (POST), turn on the StorageLoader.

4. Watch the display on the front of the autoloader as it powers up. The
StorageLoader will flash messages as it performs its internal tests and then
return a ready message when the test has completed successfully.
The word Idle and the cartridge map will appear on the default display screen. If
the self-diagnostics are successful, the green LED will illuminate. The loader is
now ready to be installed on the system.
If a problem occurs during the power-on sequence, the StorageLoader will
display an error message on the display.
Connecting the Ethernet Connector
In order to connect the StorageLoader to Ethernet use the provided cable from the
“accessory kit”.
1. Insert one end of the cable into the StorageLoader Ethernet port, push until it
snap into place, see figure on previous page where the open port is for the
Ethernet connection.
2. Connect the other end to a normal 10/100 BaseT Ethernet outlet.
Setting the SCSI IDs
There is a LCD display on the front panel, and four control buttons. After the
Power-up sequence is finished, select Menu and scroll down until you can select
Setup. Then you scroll down until the display look like the figure below, and you
select SCSI setup.

Setting the SCSI Address
The SCSI address is a unique address that identifies the unit connected to the SCSI
bus. The StorageLoader uses two SCSI addresses or IDs. One is for the loader
robotics controller and the other is for the tape drive. The SCSI addresses can be
configured through the operator buttons and the display on the front panel. In most
cases the default addresses should be used. The default SCSI address for the
StorageLoader robotics is 4 and the tape drive has SCSI address set to 5.

To set the SCSI addresses for the StorageLoader and the built in tape drive, refer to
the User and Installation Manual for more information. You may also wish to
reserve a magazine slot for a cleaning cartridge, set the auto clean option and set a
security password at this time. Once some settings are changed, the StorageLoader
and the drive may, if required, automatically reboot.
After the media is loaded, the proper loader and drive SCSI ID’s are selected, and
the proper SCSI cabling and termination Setup installation of the tape application
software can commence. Before installing the application software the system
should be started in the following sequence.
Turn on the Tandberg StorageLoader
Turn on the host Computer
During the operating system boot process the SCSI host adapter driver should detect
the StorageLoader and DLT VS160 Tape drive via the standard SCSI bus scan that
occurs during system start up. It may be necessary to set some options in the SCSI
host adapter set up program. To see this process occurring, please consult your SCSI
host adapter documentation for more information related to detecting target devices.
The system is now ready to have the tape application software installed, please
follow the directions supplied with your application software
