Turning the laptop on
The Mouse
There are two ways to move your cursor.
.
What is the difference between left click and right click?
When you right click, a menu of choices will appear. (The menu will vary depending on
what application you are using .) By right clicking, you have the “right” to select from a
list of options what you want to do.
When you left click, you will complete the action you have selected.
Push the power button
above the keyboard.
You can use the blue button in the
middle of the keyboard and the right
and left buttons.
You can use the touch pad, and its
respective right and left mouse
buttons.
When you use the touch pad, you
point on it with your finger and it
moves the arrow to what ever field in
which you want to enter information.

Help! This new mouse does not move the cursor the way I
want it to. I drag my finger over the touch-pad and the
cursor does not respond the way I want it to.
You can adjust the settings for the touch-pad on these Dell laptops. To do
so, follow the steps below.
1. Click on the Start button.
You can move your cursor to the start menu button and then left
click on it.
OR
Strike the key in the lower left corner of your keyboard. It will pull up the start menu.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Go to Control Panel.
4. Depending on your settings either a list will appear or a series of large icons. Select Mouse.
The following window will appear:
From the tabs across the top, select
Pointer Options.
This applies to both the button
mouse and the touch pad speed.
In the section called Motion, click speed to
fast, or whatever is comfortable for you.
You can move the pointer between
changing setting speed to see which you
like.
Make sure
Enhance pointer precision
is
checked.
It is sometimes convenient to have the
Snap To box checked, as it takes your
mouse immediately to the little dialog box.
Click on Apply.
Click on OK.

Logging into Windows
When you first open your laptop, it will ask you to log into Windows.
Hold down the Control, Alt, and Delete keys all at once.
You will then need to enter your Windows User Name and password.
Windows User ID for most employees is the first initial followed by last name (no
spaces). If that doesn’t work, try first and middle initial followed by last name.
HRSM Employees who are also Beaumont employees, can also use your WBH
Employeed ID Number for your Windows User ID.
Your Windows password is whatever password you selected during the Password
Self Service process.
In the Log onto box, make sure this box says
MSWBH
. You should not need to
change this.
Click on OK.
You will now see your Desktop.

application you use to enter
your schedule and complete
your clinical documentation.

What if I cannot log into RoadNotes?
Problem: I cannot log into RoadNotes.
Solution: Check to see if the Caps Lock or Num Lock are activated.
Your passwords are case sensitive. If these functions are activated, you think you are
typing in the correct password or user ID, but in fact, you are not.
How to check: Once you open your laptop and start it up, look in the small display
window just above the keyboard. Look for these icons
If they are illuminated, this means the caps lock and/or numbers lock is ON. They
should be OFF.
To turn off the caps lock key, strike the Caps Lock key once. The indicator should
disappear.
To turn off the num lock key, strike the NumLk/ScrLk key once. The indicator should
disappear.
Refer to the diagram below if you are unsure where these keys are located on the
keyboard.

Shutting down the laptop
**WARNING! Do NOT use
Standby
mode. BHC tells us users have
the potential to lose data, corrupt databases, and damage the
hard drive when you use this. Simply closing the cover of the
laptop before it completely shuts down is also another form of
Standby mode and should not be done.
To completely shut down your laptop:
1. Click on the Start button in the bottom right
corner of your desktop screen.
2. Click Shut Down.
3. In the Shut Down Windows box,
select Shut down from the drop-
down menu.
4. Click OK.
The laptop will then completely power itself off (shut down).
In order to restart the laptop, use the switch on the right side of the computer. The
laptop will then power up to your Windows logon screen.
