General Information
Before You Start
Read this manual before attempting installation so that you can familiarize
yourself with the components and how they fit on the vehicle. Identify
variations for different engine models and different situations that are listed in
the manual. Open the package, unpack the components and identify them.
Torque Specifications
All fasteners must be torqued to specifications. Use manufacturers torque
values for OEM fasteners. Apply Loctite 242 (blue) or equivalent on all
engine-mounted fasteners. Torque values are with Loctite applied unless
otherwise specified.

Hose Information
Depending on other installed equipment, it might be necessary to move the
air/oil separation tank from its intended location. The hoses used in VMAC
compressor systems have a specific inner liner that is compatible with VMAC
compressor oil. Use of hoses other than those supplied or recommended by
VMAC may cause compressor damage and may void your warranty. Please
contact VMAC for replacement hoses and further information.
Ordering Parts
To order parts, contact your VMAC dealer. Your dealer will ask for the VMAC
serial number, part number, description and quantity. To locate your nearest
dealer, call 1-877-912-6605 or online at www.vmacair.com.

System Identification, Warranty and
Warnings
Preparation for installation is very important. Missing a step or an item can
cause problems in the installation or damage to components.
Check off each item as it is completed so that you do not miss any
preparation steps.
Check through the illustrated parts list to ensure that all components are
present and that they are in the correct quantity. If any components are
missing, have the system ID ready and call VMAC technical support at
(888) 241-2289.
Complete the warranty form. The VMAC warranty form is located at the
back of this manual, as well as online at:
http://vmacair.com/warranty/
This warranty form must be completed and returned to VMAC at the time of
installation for any subsequent warranty claim to be considered valid.
The System Identification Number Plate must be attached to
the vehicle at the time of installation. This plate provides
information that allows VMAC to assist with parts and repairs.
Mark and drill 2 x 7/64 in holes in the top of the cross member in front of
the hood support. Secure the plate with supplied self- tapping screws.

As part of the installation process, ensure that the operating instruction
label is affixed in an obvious location so that it can be seen by vehicle
operators. A good spot for this is usually on the inside of the door or on
the panel underneath the steering wheel (Figure 2).
Figure 2 - Operating Instruction Label
To alert any technicians that may service the vehicle, affix the warning
label in the engine compartment near the hood latch in a visible location.
Thoroughly clean the selected area before affixing the label (Figure 3).

Preparing for Installation
Do not use a test light to probe for power on vehicle circuits,
the increased current draw of the test light may damage
components.
Preparation for installation is very important. Missing an item can cause
problems in the installation or even damage to components. Check off each
item as it is completed so that you do not miss any preparation steps.
Ensure that you have filled out the VMAC Warranty
Registration. Install the System Identification Number Plate and
operating instruction label. (Please see page 6 for details).
Due to variations in service body design and other equipment,
VMAC cannot specify a mounting location for the WHASP tank.
This VMAC kit includes 36 in of hose to run from the bulkhead
fittings to the WHASP tank. If your application requires longer
hoses refer to the “Hose Requirements” chapter on page 25.
Determine the distance from the 5 bulkhead fittings in the floor to the
desired WHASP tank location (Refer to page 20). Include sufficient
additional length to account for the width of the sub floor as well as
routing around upfitter accessories such as cabinets, benches or
shelving.
The kit includes sufficient hose to connect the compressor to the
recommended bulkhead location.
For optimum performance, the hose length should be minimized.
Contact a VMAC dealer to order the custom length of discharge
hose, oil return hoses and the scavenge tube.
Disconnect the battery.
Raise the front of the vehicle and support the axle on axle stands (or
appropriate blocking).
Ensure the vehicle is safely supported on axle stands before
working under it.
Remove the lower engine cover. This cover uses a mixture of Torx (x6)
bolts and “Christmas tree” style fasteners (x2).
Remove the passenger side front wheel.
Remove the OEM stretch belt and retain (this will be re-used later).
Use a 14 mm wrench to release tension from the OEM tensioner and
remove the OEM drive belt.
VMAC recommends retaining all parts removed during this
installation so that the vehicle can be returned to stock if
required.

Installing the Compressor, Hoses and
Drive Belts
Connecting the Crank Position Sensor (CKP)
Access to the Crank Position Sensor (CKP) for soldering the
throttle controller tach wire is easiest before the VMAC main
bracket has been installed. The remainder of the electrical
connections will be covered later in this manual.
Refer to page 34 for instructions on how to remove the dashboard panel
below the steering wheel.
Position the throttle controller under the dashboard, in a location where it
will be protected from day-to-day abuse, but will still be accessible for
making adjustments. Secure the throttle control with cable ties so that
the “SPEED 1” adjusting screw is accessible.
Remove the air filter box.
Remove the battery.
Apply high temperature split loom, or equivalent, to the grey tach cable
coming out of the throttle control.
Pull back the flooring and sound proof matt and pass the loomed tach
cable through the firewall via the plastic cover. (Figure 6)

Route the cable along the top of the engine and secure to the existing
electrical harness. Ensure that it is adequately protected from any hot,
sharp or moving parts. (Figure 7)
Figure 7 - VMAC Wire Harness
From the passenger side wheel well, locate the Crank Position sensor
(CKP) and disconnect the harness. There are 2 push-in clips securing
the harness. (Figure 8)

Pull the harness up past the crank pulley and into the engine bay for
easier access.
Splice and solder the white wire from the throttle control tach signal wire
to the yellow/violet (PIN 1) CKP wire using the method outlined below.

Re-route the CKP harness down to the CKP sensor and reconnect.
Ensure it is routed in such a way as to be protected from any hot, sharp
or moving parts.
Figure 9 - Splice in to OEM Wire
VMAC suggests not cutting OEM wires whenever practical. The
preferred method to is remove the pin from the connector
using an appropriate tool and slide the shrink tube onto the
wire. Strip the wire at the desired location and solder the
VMAC wire into place. Slide the shrink tube up to the soldered
joint and seal it. Finally, replace the pin in the connector taking
special care to ensure the pin is fully inserted and the locking
tabs are engaged
If this is not practical, cut the OEM wire and solder and seal
using shrink tube.
