1. Introduction
EverFocus EF-Reader is an enhanced HDD reader enabling users to access HDD / SSD / SD Card /
USB devices / DVD and further play back the recordings or data. Users granted with privileges are
allowed to log in the reader and operate the specific functions. The EF-Reader supports AVR / AVI /
MP4 file formats. Users are able to convert the AVR file into MP4 and AVI file formats through the
EF-Reader. Moreover, the meta data or the GPS data from the source recordings can also be played
back graphically. The EF-Reader supports various functions including Event Search, Archive, AB
Repeat Playback, Format Convert, Mask, Watermark and etc..

2. Getting Started
2.1 Installing EF-Reader
1. Double-click the EF-Reader.exe and follow the on-screen instructions to install the
EF-Reader.
2. Optionally check the Launch EF-Reader, click the Finish button, the EF-Reader login window
appears and the EF-Reader Service icon will be minimized to the system tray.
3. You can optionally right-click the EF-Reader Service icon in the system tray to Start, Stop or
Exit the program. If you have exited the service and want to restart it again, go to
C:\Program Files\EF-Reader and double-click HDD_Reader.exe.

If the below message window pops up during the installation process, that means you have
not restarted your computer after the removal of previous EF-Reader program. Restart your
computer and then install the EF-Reader again.
When you connect a hard disk or an SD card to the local computer, the below message
window may pop up to ask if you need to format the disk / SD card. Click Cancel to skip
formatting.

2.2 Uninstalling EF-Reader
1. To uninstall the EF-Reader, go to the Control Panel < Programs < Uninstall a program of
your computer.
2. Find the EF-Reader program. Click to select EF-Reader and then click the Unstall button.
3. Restart your computer to complete the uninstallation process.
2.3 Pre-Operation
The EF-Reader is a software allowing users to play back recordings from various sources locally
or remotely; or view live streams from the connected devices. Before you start using the
EF-Reader program, please ensure:
The remote source computers have also installed the EF-Reader program and the EF-Reader
Service is activated.
The HDDs are properly connected to the source computers, which can be checked via Disk
Management.
The network connection between the local computer and the remote computers / devices is
working properly.

2.4 Login / Logout
To login or logout EF-Reader, please follow the steps below.
To log in the EF-Reader:
1. Double-click the EF-Reader program and the login window appears.
2. Type the user name and password to log in. By default, the user name is admin and
password is 11111111
Note: You can optionally change the password for security reasons. To change the
password, go to Settings < Account (see 3.6.4 Account Setting).
3. Click the Login button, the EF-Reader Main Page appears. For detailed operations about
playback, please refer to 3.3 Playback.
Note that for the first time login users, it is required to select Video Record / Snapshot / Log
storage paths and also select a time zone before using EF-Reader. After clicking the Login
button, the below Settings window pops up. Click Browse to select each path and then
select a time zone, click Save to save the settings and click Cancel to leave this window.

To log out the EF-Reader:
Simply click the Logout button on the upper-right window.

2.5 General Operation Steps
To start using EF-Reader:
1. Connect a source (see 3.1 Video Source for more details).
a. Local HDDs.
Directly click the HDD under the Local HDD Service tree in the Video Source menu and
the EF-Reader will start playing back.
b. Local Files.
Click the Open AVR File button on the left-side Video Source menu to open the File
Explorer window. Then you can select the file you wish to play back.
You can also open the File Explorer window by clicking the Source Manager button on the
upper-left corner of the EF-Reader and then click the Open AVR File button.
c. Remote HDDs.
Click the Source Manager button on the upper-left corner of the EF-Reader to open the
Source Manager window; and then click the Add Host button to establish the connection
between the EF-Reader and the remote host (computer). Once the connection is done,
the HDDs connected to the remote computer will be listed under the added host tree in
the Video Source menu. Directly click the HDD and the EF-Reader will start playing back.

2. To control the playback operations, use the Playback Panel on the bottom side of the
EF-Reader. (see 3.3.1 Playback Panel for more details).
3. To search for recordings on a specific date:
a. Use the Calendar. (see 3.1.2.2 Calendar for more details)
Click a date on the calendar, the video segments of the date will be displayed in the Video
Segments field. Single-click on a segment and the segment will be played back.
b. Use the Time Search function. (see 3.4.1 Time Search for more details)
Under the Calendar, select a time and then click the Search button to search for a specific
time. Click the Play button to start playing back.
c. Use the Search Event function. (see 3.4.2 Search Event for more details)
Click the Search Event button on the upper-left side of the EF-Reader to bring up the
Search Event window.
4. To archive multi-channel recordings, click the Archive Setting button. (see 3.5 Archive
Recordings for more details.)
5. To display vehicle data graphically: (see 3.2.1.1 Switch Display Type for more details.)
Use the Channel Tool Bar. (Click the drop-down list on the upper-left corner of a channel
and then select GPS Graphs or Map to display the graphical data on this channel.)

You can configure general settings including language, user
account, date format, storage path and etc. in this field. Please

Click to open the Source Manager window. You can manage the
source list including adding / deleting hosts or AVR files here.

3 Theater Mode
Click to toggle the Layout window into theater mode (full screen).

5 Archive Setting
Click to open the Archive Setting window for multi-channel
archiving. You can archive the desired recordings into AVR, AVI or
MP4 formats. You can also apply the Watermark or Encryption
function to the archiving files. Please refer to 3.5.1 Multi-Channel
Archive for more details.
6 Search Event
Click to open the Search Event window. You can search various
event recordings including Motion, Video Loss and Alarm. For
more details, please refer to 3.4.2 Search Event.
7 Channel Tool Bar
You can perform various functions including changing channels,
displaying vehicle data graphs, taking snapshot or quick archiving
on the selected view through the Channel Tool Bar. For more
details, please refer to 3.2.1 Channel Tool Bar.
8 Layout Window
Once a source recording is connected, the recording will be
displayed on the Layout Window. To change different layouts,
selected the desired layouts in the Layout menu. Please refer to
3.2 Layout Window for more details.
9 Login Account The login user account will be displayed here.
10 Logout Click to logout the EF-Reader.
11 Firmware Version The version of EF-Reader is displayed here.
12 Video Source
You can add sources locally or remotely here in the Video Source
menu. Please refer to 3.1.1 Add Sources for more details.
13 Operating Task
Operating functions in progress, such as archiving status, will be
displayed here.
14 Layout
You can select the desired layout in the Layout menu. Please refer
to 3.2.2 Layout Switch for more details.
15 Playback Panel
Once a source is connected, you can use the Playback Panel to
play back the recording. You can even perform the AB repeat
playback using the Playback Panel. The Time Bar may be displayed
with yellow and blue colors, which represent different recording
type in the source recording. Blue represents normal recording
(no event); while Yellow represents event recording. Please refer
to 3.3 Playback for more details.

16 Right Menu Bar
The Right Menu Bar contains Video Source Info., Calendar, Video
Segments, Mask & Mark and OSD Display menus. Please refer to
3.1.2 Right Menu Bar for more details.
Once a source on the Source List in the Source menu is clicked
(selected), the source information will be displayed in the
Video Source Info menu.
When a source HDD or source file is clicked (selected), the
EF-Reader will start playing back the source, and the
corresponding recording date and video segments will be
displayed in the Calendar menu and Video Segments menu.
You can search for the desired recordings for playing back.
On the Layout window, single click on a channel, the channel is
selected and will be highlighted with a red frame. At the same
time, the Mask & Mark and OSD Display menus will be
displayed in the Right Menu Bar under the Video Segments
menu.
17 Info Window
Once a source is connected and being playing back, the info
window will automatically display the meta data or GPS, G-Sensor
data from the source recording.
3.1 Video Source
In this chapter, we will introduce you how to add sources from local or remote computers; and
the usage of the Video Source menu (as below) and Right Menu Bar (see 3.1.2 Right Menu Bar).

3.1.1 Add Sources
Before using the EF-Reader to play back recordings, you have to add a video source to the
EF-Reader. The source can be HDDs from the local or remote computers; or AVR files in local
computer.
3.1.1.1 Local HDDs Connection
After connecting the HDDs to the local computer, the EF-Reader will automatically detect the
HDDs connected to the computer. Click Local HDD Service in the Video Source menu, the
connected HDDs will be listed under the Local HDD Service tree.
Note: The number appended to the HDD (ex. HDD_2) represents the Disk number assigned by
your computer, which can be checked via Disk Management of your computer.
Select an HDD and click on it, the EF-Reader will start playing back the recordings in the selected
HDD. You can also see the corresponding date and video segments of the source HDD in the
Calendar (3.1.2.2 Calendar) and Video Segments (3.1.2.3 Video Segments) menus. To operate
the playback function, please refer to 3.3.1 Playback Panel.

If the HDDs are not properly connected to the computer, when clicking Local HDD Service,
the HDDs will not be listed under the Local HDD Service tree and a message would appear
to indicate there is no source in the Local HDD Service.

3.1.1.2 Remote HDDs Connection
You can add remote HDDs by adding new hosts to the EF-Reader using Source Manager.
Note: Before you start establishing the connection, please ensure:
1. The remote source computers have also installed the EF-Reader program and the
EF-Reader Service is running.
2. The HDDs are properly connected to the remote source computers, which can be checked
via Disk Management.
3. The network connection between the local computer and the remote computers is
working properly.
To add a new host:
1. Open the Source Manager window. There are two ways: 1) by clicking the Source Manager
button
on the upper-left side of the EF-Reader. 2) by clicking the Source Manger button
in the Video Source Menu.
2. Click the Add Host button, a New Hdd Service is added to the list.
3. Click the newly added host on the tree list, input a Name, IP Address and Port number (keep
999 port) for the remote source computer, and click the Save button.

Name: Input a name for the created host. The name will be displayed in the Video
Source menu.
IP Address: Input the IP address of the remote source computer where the HDDs are
connected to.
Port: Keep the port number 999.
4. Close the Source Manger window, and the new host is added to the Source List.
Note: The number appended to the HDD (ex. HDD_1) represents the Disk number
assigned by the remote computer, which can be checked via Disk Management of the
remote computer.
5. Select an HDD and click on it, the EF-Reader will start playing back the recordings in the
selected HDD.
You can also see the corresponding date and video segments of the source HDD in the
Calendar (3.1.2.2 Calendar) and Video Segments (3.1.2.3 Video Segments) menus. To
operate the playback function, please refer to 3.3.1 Playback Panel.

3.1.1.3 Add Local AVR Files
You can add AVR files in the local computer by using the File Explorer window.
To add an AVR file:
1. Open the File Explorer window. There are two ways: 1) by clicking the Source Manager
button on the upper-left side of the EF-Reader to bring up the Source Manager window
and then click the Open AVR File button. 2) by clicking the Open AVR File button
in the Video Source Menu.
2. Search for the file in your computer. Double-click on the file and the file will be added to the
Source List.
3. Click on the file directly, the EF-Reader will start playing back the recording file.
