Chapter 1
Unpacking and Setup
Before You Begin
Set up of the printer must be complete before you begin to set up the
scanner.
Selecting a Location
The scanner must be located on a flat, stable surface near the printer. This
can be a table or desk, or it can be the optional ScanCenter Stand. Whatever
the location, be sure it is cleared and ready before you begin to unpack the
scanner.
CAUTION
!
The printer is not designed to support the scanner. Do not
attempt to set up the scanner on top of the printer.
NOTE
:
If you are using the optional ScanCenter Stand, you will need to
assemble it first. Assembly instructions are included with the
ScanCenter Stand.

Unpacking the Scanner
Follow these instructions for unpacking the scanner. The packing
arrangement is illustrated in the figure below.
1. Open the box.
2. Lift up and remove the left, right, and front packaging foam.
3. Lift up and remove the shipaway kit packaging.
4. Reach under the scanner, lift it out of the box and place it in the
location you have prepared for it.
5. Place all of the packaging foam back in the box and save it for use in
case you have to ship the scanner to another location.
WARNING!
The scanner weighs approximately 55 lb. Two people must be
available to lift the scanner from the box.

Installation Instructions
Perform the following steps to install the scanner:
1. Place the scanner on a table or desktop not more than 6 feet from the
printer.
or
Place the scanner on the optional ScanCenter Stand with the two left
feet of the scanner in the cutouts on the left side of the tray.
Attaching the Cables and Power Cord to the Scanner
Attach the cables to the scanner as follows:
1. Locate the Operator Control Panel (OCP) cable that is taped to the
side of the scanner and plug it into the OCP connector as shown in
the illustration on the following page.
2. Plug in the printer cable into the printer cable connector as shown in
the illustration on the following page.
WARNING!
When using the optional ScanCenter Stand, do not place the scanner on
the stand until the printer is in place and the entire unit is in the desired
location.
Do not move the stand when the scanner is on the tray. Always take the
scanner off of the stand when moving.

Attaching the Shroud
A shroud is attached to the scanner to protect the cables from coming loose
and to provide a clean, finished appearance to the unit.
To attach the shroud:
1. Unscrew the thumbscrews from the I/O plate and set them aside for
later use.
2. Replace the thumbscrews with the standoffs.

3. The power cord and the printer cable will be routed through an
opening in the side of the shroud as it is installed. To ensure the
printer cable stays connected, use the tie wrap to fasten the cable to
the left standoff.
4. Mount the shroud onto the scanner.
5. Secure the shroud using the thumbscrews you removed in Step 1.
WARNING!
Never use the shroud as a handle for picking up the scanner.

Attaching the Cables and Power Cord to the Printer
1. If you are using the ScanCenter Stand, route the power cord and the
printer cable down the back of the stand and secure them with the
cable clamp.
2. Connect the printer cable to the printer interface where indicated
below.
3. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.

Power Up
To turn the power on, press the switch on the front of the scanner. A green
LED will light on the front of the scanner and the touch panel will display
a screen indicating the diagnostics are being run. When the diagnostics are
complete (about 2 minutes), the touch panel will display the Job Status
Screen.
If the LED does not light, or the diagnostics fail, call technical support.

General
For the safety of the personnel and the product, operate the equipment
according to the instructions in this users guide. The manufacturer

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a
class A Information Technology Equipment in accordance with the Euro-
pean Standard EN55022.
These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against
unacceptable interference in either commercial or industrial environments.
This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio signals and if it is not
installed and used in accordance with the instructions detailed in this user’s
guide, it may cause unacceptable interference to radio communication
installations and equipment. The operation of this equipment in a

Read all of these instructions and keep them for later use.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the device.
Unplug this device from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use
liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
Do not use this device near water.
Do not place this device on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The
device could fall and suffer serious damage.
Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided
for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the device and protect
it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered.
The openings should never be blocked by placing the device on a
bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This device should never be
placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This device should not
be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is pro-
vided.
This device should be operated from the type of power source indi-
cated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power
available, contact your dealer or local power company.
This product is equipped with a 3-wire grounding-type plug, a plug
having a third (grounding) pin. This plug will only fit into a ground-
ing-type outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the
plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your outlet. Do
not defeat the purpose of the grounding-type plug by removing its
grounding pin. (This does not apply in countries in which a 2-wire,
non-grounded type of plug is used.)
Do not place this device where the cord will be walked on.
If an extension cord is used with this product, make sure that the total
of the ampere ratings on the devices plugged into the extension cord
does not exceed the extension cord ampere rating. Also, make sure
that the total of all devices plugged into the wall outlet does not
exceed 15 amperes.
