This manual gives a common description and information for
this heat pump air conditioner which you operate as well as
for other models.
These heat pump air conditioners have been designed for
the following temperatures. Operate the heat pump air
conditioner within this range.

SAFETY SUMMARY
% DANGER:
Use refrigerant R407C in the refrigerant cycle. Do not
charge oxygen, acetylene or other flammable and
poisonous gases into the refrigerant cycle when
performing a leakage test or an air-tight test. These
types of gases are extremely dangerous and can
cause an explosion. It is recommended that
compressed air, nitrogen or refrigerant be used for
these types of tests.
Do not pour water into the indoor unit, outdoor unit or
CH unit. These products are equipped with electrical
parts. If poured, it will cause a serious electrical shock.
Do not touch or adjust safety devices inside the indoor
or outdoor units. If these devices are touched or
readjusted, it may cause a serious accident.
Do not open the service cover or access panel for the
indoor or outdoor units without turning OFF the main
power supply.
Refrigerant leakage can cause difficulty with breathing
due to insufficient air. Turn OFF the main switch, put
out fire at once and contact your service contractor, if
refrigerant leakage occurs.
The installer and system specialist shall secure safety
against leakage according to local regulations or
standards.
$ WARNING:
Do not use any sprays such as insecticide, lacquer,
hair spray or other flammable gases within
approximately one (1) meter from the system.
If circuit breaker or fuse is often activated, stop the
system and contact your service contractor.
Do not perform installation work, refrigerant piping
work, drain piping and electrical wiring connection
without referring to our installation manual.
Check that the ground wire is securely connected.
Connect a fuse of specified capacity. Do not put any
foreign material on the unit or inside the unit. Make
sure that the outdoor unit is not covered with snow or
ice, before operation.
& CAUTION:
Do not install the indoor unit, outdoor unit, CH unit,
remote control switch and cable within approximately 3
meters from strong electromagnetic wave radiators
such as medical equipment.
Supply electrical power to the system to energize the
oil heater for 12 hours before start-up after a long
shutdown.
? NOTE:
It is recommended that the room be ventilated every 3
to 4 hours.
The heating capacity of the heat pump unit declines
according to the outdoor air temperature. Therefore, it
is recommended that auxiliary heating equipment be
used in the field when the unit is installed in a low
temperature region.

HITACHI proudly introduces the New line up of SET FREE
FSG(1) 5-30 HP and FXG(1) 8-30 HP in order to respond
the request of air conditioning markets, for big capacity
units.
SET FREE series, are the highly-efficient ,reliable and
flexible in air conditioning system, for the markets.
Recently, increased numbers of buildings are requiring
"Intelligent" facilities - communication networks, office
automation, including a comfortable environment. In addition
to that, energy saving operation is needed. Particularly,
comfortable space is required all the day through the year in
shops and office buildings. This split air conditioner, " SET
FREE System " can meet these requirements. The proven
combination of the scroll compressor and the inverter
provides the best air conditioning for office buildings and
hotels.

High economical efficiency operation
HITACHI use the high technology to achieve the high
operation efficiency. The applications of the following
technologies provide HITACHI to achieve results like the
great power saving due to heat recovery system. During
Simultaneous cooling and heating operation, only for
FXG(1), energy is saved by the heat exchange between
indoor units.
These technologies are:

Supercooling Circuit
Performance improved by high-efficiency plate type of heat
exchanger.
n
DC Fan Motor with Outstanding Efficiency
The DC fan motor greatly improves efficiency compared
with conventional products having an AC motor. Also, air
blasts are reduced by controlling the rotation speed of the
fan.
n DC Compressor Using Neodymium Magnet
A DC compressor is used for all models, thus greatly
increasing efficiency in all operating areas. In particular,
performance at a low speed, which affects the annual
running cost, has greatly improved. Moreover, the peculiar
electromagnetic noise to DC compressors has been cut by
optimizing the rotor shape of the compressor.
n New Heat Exchanger
The new smaller flow resistance heat exchanger using new
aluminum fins and pressure loss in pipe decreases with
optimized path alignment provides power saving.
Also, it has achieved a lower sound operation due to lower
fan revolution.

n Top Class Silence Operation
HITACHI use the high technology to achieve the Lowest
sound possible
These Technologies are:
§ PWM ( Pulse With Modulation) Control
Fan motor control by PWM has realized low
electromagnetic sounds remarkably.
§ Low Operation Sound Resulting from New Fan Shape
and Propeller Fan Material
The combination of most appropriate fan shape for
smooth air flow and a new material of Mica
polypropylene has resulted in a low operation sound
which was almost impractical in previous units.
§ Low Sound Operation by Low Noise Fan Motor
Aluminum die-casting was used for assembled fan
motor and low sound operation has been achieved.
And due to a non resonance suspension structure, the
vibration sound has been minimized.

Lower Sound Operation during Night Time
By improved at around of cabinet structure and fan
shape, and by the adoption of new material and inverter,
operation sound has been reduced.
n Reliability
HITACHI use the inverter technology to achieve the Less
failures than the standard compressors. The system
never stop and the quantity of the refrigerant than the
system request is proportional to speed compressor. The
speed compressor is proportional to frequency work ( 30-
Hz to 115Hz).

H-LINK System
The H-LINK wiring system requires only two transmission
wires connecting each CH unit and outdoor unit for up to

Wide Operation Range
This unit has been designed for cooling operation under low
ambient temperatures down to -5 ºC.
This feature enables cooling to be obtained even in winter
on buildings with high internal heat gains due to lighting,
people and machines, particularly in areas such as shops,
lecture rooms, data processing areas etc.
And the heating operation under low ambient temperature
down to -15 ºC can be also performed.
n Electronical capacity control
Precise Control with the wide Range Inverter
The compressor speed for Set-Free series outdoor unit is
controlled within a wide range of from 30Hz to 115Hz.
Therefore, smooth operation is available without frequently
using the ON/OFF control. This new wide range capacity
control can meet not only the needs of a wide space but
also a small space such as guest rooms and management
rooms. Defrosting operation can be quickly performed
because of a high compressor speed of 70~75Hz.
Electronic Control
The capacity of the Outdoor unit is continuously controlled
by the inverter from 3.3% to 130%. This wide working range
has been obtained by the improvement of shaft strength and
high pressure oil circulation in the scroll compressor.
Therefore, an air conditioning system where heat load is
greatly changed through the day is easily catered for.
Also, the capacity of indoor unit is controlled by detecting
the inlet and set room temperatures using an inverter driven
compressor. Therefore even a small room can be air
conditioned without unwanted ON/OFF operation, resulting
in comfortable air conditioning.

Individual Operation at Minimum Indoor Unit power
The electronic expansion valves installed not only in the
outdoor unit, but also in each indoor unit, control the
refrigerant flow. Hitachi achieves the reduction of the
minimum capacity up to 0.8 HP Indoor Unit to connect 20
and 30HP FXG1 Outdoor Units.
Trial operation and Self-Diagnosing by Multi-Function
Remote Control Switch and Printed Circuit Board in
Outdoor Unit
A high quality control by the new remote control switch has
been developed. The self-diagnosing function, which
enables quick checking of operation conditions in the indoor
units and outdoor unit, has been newly equipped.
Furthermore, alarm data can be put into the memory of a
micro-computer when an abnormality occurs.
A self-diagnosing function for printed circuit boards is also
available. Various operation data such as expansion valve
opening, etc. are indicated on the 7-segments on the printed
circuit board in the outdoor unit.
By these functions, saving of maintenance period and labor
during the trial operation and servicing has been achieved.
Greatly Minimized Piping Work by HITACHI "Uni-Piping
System"
The "Uni-Piping" system where the same size pipe as the
main refrigerant pipe can be utilized, has been developed.
Due to this single size, piping work has been greatly
simplified.
Also, from the point of design, complicated piping selection
has been minimized. Only two refrigerant pipes in the
refrigeration cycle are required. Various piping connection
sets are also available according to field requirements.
Due to these improvements, various problems during
installation have been solved. The new HITACHI "Uni-Piping
System" is the epoch-making system which saves
installation time and labour.
The "Uni-Piping System" is allowed up to 10HP.

Diagnosing using the Remote Control Switch
Printed circuit boards (PCBs) can be checked using the
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) remote control switch.
Therefore, diagnosing for PCBs at the site is quickly and
accurately performed.
Data Memory in the Remote Control Switch
In the case that an abnormality occurs, the LCD remote
control switch will indicate an alarm code so that quick
diagnosing is available at the site.
