Chapter 1 NCR 4072 โ€“ One of the Best!
The NCR 4072 uninterruptible power system (UPS) pr otects your
sensitive electronic equipment from basic power problems such as power
failures, power sags, power surges, brownouts, and line noise.
Power outages can occur when you least expect it and power quality can
be erratic. These power problems have the potential to corrupt critical
data, destroy unsaved work sessions, and damage hardware โ€” causing
hours of lost productivity and expensive repairs.
With the NCR 4072 UPS , you can safely eliminate the effects of power
disturbances and guard the integrity of your equipment. The NCR 4072
UPSโ€™s flexibility to handle an array of network devices makes it the
perfect choice to protect your LANs, servers, workstations, and other
electrical equipment.

Providing outstanding performance and reliability, the NCR 4072 UPSโ€™s
unique benefits include the following:
์‘บ Battery Save technology doubles battery service life, optimizes
recharge time, and provides a warning before the end of useful
battery life.
์‘บ Buck and Boost voltage regulation ensures consistent voltage to your
load by correcting voltage fluctuations.
์‘บ Hot-swappable batteries simplify maintenance by allowing you to
replace batteries safely without powering down the critical load.
์‘บ Start-on-battery capability allows you to power up the UPS even if
utility power is not available.
์‘บ Two standard communication options with a USB port and DB-9 serial
port.
์‘บ Network Transient Protector guards your network communications
equipment from surges. Low voltage models can also protect
modems, fax machines, or other telecommunications equipment.
์‘บ The NCR 4072 UPS is backed by worldwide agency approvals.

Chapter 2 Safety Warnings
Read the following precautions before you install the UPS.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
This manual contains important instructions that you should follow during
installation and maintenance of the UPS and batteries. Please read all
instructions before operating the equipment and save this manual for future
reference.
DANGER
This UPS contains LETHAL VOLTAGES. All repairs and service should be
performed by AUTHORIZED SERVICE PERSONNEL ONLY.ThereareNO USER
SERVICEABLE PARTS inside the UPS.
WARNING
์‘บ This UPS contains its own energy source (batteries). The output receptacles
may carry live voltage even when the UPS is not connected to an AC supply.
์‘บ For 220โ€“240V models, the o utput receptacles may remain electrically live. If
the input power source in your application is wired line-to-neutral (as in
most European applications), the voltage to the output receptacles is 0V.
With line-to-line input wiring, the voltage to the output receptacles is
110โ€“120V (measured from line-to-ground or line-to-neutral, depending on
the UPS wiring).
์‘บ Do not remove or unplug the input cord when the UPS is turned on. This
removes the safety ground from the UPS and the equipment connected to
the UPS.
์‘บ To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, install this UPS in a temperature
and humidity controlled, indoor environment, free of conductive
contaminants. Ambient temperature must not exceed 40ยฐC (104ยฐF). Do not
operate near water or excessive humidity (95% max).
์‘บ To comply with international standards and wiring regulations, the total
equipment connected to the output of this UPS must not have an earth
leakage current greater than 1.5 milliamperes.
Safety Warnings

NCR 4072 UPS Site Preparation, Installation, and Operation Manual S 05147374 Rev C Uncontrolled Copy
CAUTION
์‘บ The wall outlet must be within 2 meters of the equipment and accessible to
the operator.
์‘บ Batteries can present a risk of electrical shock or burn from high
short-circuit current. The following precautions should be observed:
1) Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects; 2) Use tools with insulated
handles; 3) Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries; 4) Disconnect
charging source prior to connecting or disconnecting battery terminals.
์‘บ Proper disposal of batteries is required. Refer to your local codes for
disposal requirements.
์‘บ Never dispose of batteries in a fire. Batteries may explode when exposed to
flame.
์‘บ Never open or mutilate batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin
and eyes, and may be extremely toxic.
์‘บ Replace batteries with the same number and type of batteries as originally
installed in the UPS.

Chapter 3 Installation
This section explains:
์‘บ Equipment inspection
์‘บ UPS installation
์‘บ UPS rear panels
Inspecting the Equipment
If any equipment has b een damaged during shipment, keep the shipping
cartons and packing materials for the carrier or p lace of purchase and
file a claim for shipping damage. If you discover damage after
acceptance, file a claim for concealed damage.
To file a claim for shipping damage or concealed damage: 1) File with
the carrier within 15 days of receipt of the equipment; 2) Send a copy of
the damage claim within 15 days to Customer Service.
NOTE Check the battery recharge date on the shipping carton label. If
the date has expired and the batteries were never recharged, do not use
the UPS. Contact Customer Service.

Installing the UPS
The following steps explain how to install the UPS. Figure 8 shows a
typical installation only. See โ€œUPS Rear Panelsโ€ on page 22 for the rear
panel of each model.
1. If you are installing power management software, connect your
computer to the USB port or UPS communication port using the
supplied cable (see page 30).
NOTE If you need to change the factory-set defaults for the output voltage
or input voltage range, see โ€œVoltage Configurationโ€ on page 29 before
installing the UPS.
2. On 230V models, plug the detachable power cord into the input
connector on the UPS rear panel.

3. Plug the UPS power cord into a power outlet.
Verify that the circuit has an upstream overcurrent protection of
15A for 120V models or 10A for 230V models.
4. Plug the equipment to be protected into the UPS output
receptacles.
NOTE DO NOT protect laser printers with the UPS because of the
exceptionally high power requirements of the heating elements.
5. Press and hold the button until you hear the UPS beep
(approximately two seconds).
The
ยต
indicator illuminates indicating that power is available
from the UPS output receptacles. The UPS conducts a self-test
and enters Normal mode.
If the alarm beeps or a UPS alarm indicator stays on, see Table 9
on page 44.
NOTE The batteries charge to 90% capacity in approximately 3 hours.
However, it is recommended that the batteries charge for 6 to 24 hours
after installation or long-term storage.
