INTRODUCTION
Congratulations! What you now have in your hands is
a complete package containing everything you need to
print your own bar code labels. UBI EasyPak is devel-
oped with one important idea in mindsimplicity.
For you, this means increased productivity and greater
job satisfaction.

Transformer
CONNECT POWER CORD
Make sure that the transformer is set for correct volt-
age by checking the voltage sign on top.
First, fit the round connector into the power inlet on
the printer’s rear plate. Then, connect the other cord
to a wall socket.
The power can be turned ON/OFF by means of the
main switch beside the power inlet. The "Power"
control lamp lights red when the power is on.
CONNECT INTERFACE CABLE
Before connecting an interface cable, please make
sure that both computer and printer are turned OFF.

Connect the parallel interface cable to the connector
on the back of the printer and secure it with the
clips attached to the cable connector. Connect the
other end of the parallel interface cable to the PC
parallel interface and fasten the cable with the
screws attached to the cable connector.

INSTALL YOUR UBI WINDOWS
PRINTER DRIVER
Open Microsoft Windows.
In the "Main" window of the "Program Manager",
open the "Control Panel" option.
In the "Control Panel" window, open the "Printers"
option.
In the "Printers" window, click the "Add>>" button.
In the "List of printers", select the "Install Unlisted
or Updated Printer" option and click "Install".
Insert your UBI Windows Driver floppy disk in
drive A: and click the "OK" button.
In the "List of printers", select "UBI EasyCoder 71"
printer and click the "OK" button.

USE YOUR UBI WINDOWS
PRINTER DRIVER
In the "Control Panel" window, double click on
"Printers". Select the UBI EasyCoder 71 printer
and click on "Set As Default Printer".
To set up specific label dimensions etc. click on the
"Setup" button.
Select "Paper size" and choose your nearest label
size from the list. (To show the list, point at the little
arrow to the right of "User Defined Size...".)
Check that the parallel interface cable is properly
connected between your PC and your printer.
Turn the printer ON.
Check that paper is properly loaded. Press the
"Feed" button for feeding one label and to con-
firm that all is OK. (If not, see how to load paper,
pages 10–11.)
From now on, all printing from Windows programs,
such as Word, Excel, PageMaker, Corel Draw etc.,
will be performed on your connected UBI Easy-
Coder printer.

INSTALL YOUR UBI LabelShop
PROGRAM
N.B. First, make sure that your UBI Windows Driver
is properly installed (see page 6).
Insert the "UBI LabelShop" floppy disk in drive
A: in your computer.
Open the "Windows Program Manager".
From the menue File, choose "Run".
Write "a:setup" in the Command line box
and click the "OK" button.
"UBI LabelShop Installation" dialogue box
comes up on your screen.
You may change the file directory by clicking
the "Change Directory" button. Default is
"C:\UBILSHOP".
You may now change language by clicking
the "Language" button.
Click "Install".
Enter your user name and serial number that
is printed on the floppy disk.
Click "Continue" to start installation.
After the installation is done, "UBI LabelShop"
window is automatically created with a
"UBIlShop" icon. Double click the icon to
start LabelShop.
Note! Please fill in your Registration Card.

PRINT YOUR FIRST LABEL
USING UBI LabelShop
Check that the parallel interface cable is properly
connected between your PC and your printer.
Turn the printer ON.
"LABELSHOP" comes up in the printer display.
Check that paper is properly loaded and that the
printhead is lowered. Press the "Feed" button for
feeding one label and to confirm that all is OK.
(If not, see how to load paper on page 10.)
Double click on the "UBIlShop" icon to start the
program.
From the menue File, choose "Open".
Select the pre-designed label layout "example.lay".
The layout will appear on your screen.
From the menue File, choose "Print setup".
Select "71–Windows Driver (Parallel cable)" and
click "Setup".
If UBI EasyCoder 71 is not set as default printer,
then choose "Specific Printer: UBI EasyCoder 71
on LPT1" and click "OK". Set up your label dimen-
sions by using "Paper size".
From the menue File, choose "Print".
State number of labels required and click "Print".
The labels will now be printed on your UBI
EasyCoder!

1 Open the hinged cover.
2 Place the spindle into the core of the
paper roll.
3 Place the paper roll and spindle in the
hinged cover.
4 Pull the paper guides outwards as far
as they can go.
5 Place the front edge of the paper
between the paper guides and push it
forwards until you notice resistance.
6 Adjust the paper guides so they
become flush with the edges of the
paper without causing it to bend.
7 Press the "Feed" button to advance
the paper until its front edge is flush
with the front cover.
8 If the paper is off center, push the
print head release knob towards the
back of the printer and hold while
adjusting labels. Then release the
knob.
9 While keeping the paper straight,
rewind excess paper onto the roll and
place the roll in the cavity with the
spindle resting in the slots. Close the
hinged cover.
8 When the "Power" indicator lamp
lights green, your printer is ready to
print.
LOAD PAPER
The Standard Model printer lets you print and feed out
labels or tickets .
The Self-strip Model lets you also separate (dis-
pense) self adhesive labels from the backing paper.

Self-strip Model
To load self adhesive labels, follow the
instructions on previous page, step 1—6.
Then proceed as follows:
1 Press the "Feed" button until a full
label has been fed out.
2 Manually peel off the first label from
the backing paper. Then thread the
backing paper around the dispenser
edge and down between the black
platen and the white self-strip roller.
Push the paper down as far as it will go.
3 Press the "Feed" button until the back-
ing paper appears at the bottom of the
printer.
4 With your left hand, push the print head
release knob back towards the back of
the printer.
5 Press the "Feed" button and release it
when the top of next label becomes
visible.
6 If you want to use the label-taken
sensor, pull it out until it snaps into
extended position.
7 Rewind excess label web onto the roll
and place it into the cavity. Close the
cover.
