Fan tray overview
LSVM152SCFAN
Introduction to LSVM152SCFAN
The LSVM152SCFAN is a fan tray with blowing fans that blow air to the
inside of the device. It comprises four separate fans. The LSVM152SCFAN
features small size, fast heat dissipation, and hot swapping, and can
automatically adjust the fan speed based on the device temperature.
Figure 1 shows the structure and air flow of the fan tray.
T
he fan tray provides a status LED to indicate the operating status of the
module. When the switch is running, the LED can have the following
statuses:
The LED displays green—The fan tray is operating properly.
The LED displays red—The fan tray is faulty.
The LED is off—The fan tray is not correctly installed or is faulty.

Installing and replacing a fan tray
You can install and replace the LSVM152SCFAN and LSVM252SCFAN
in the same way. For more information, see “Installing a fan tray“ and
Replacing a fan tray.”
Installing a fan tray
IMPORTANT:
Before you install a fan tray, make sure that the air flow direction of
the module meets the ventilation requirement at the installation site.
To install a fan tray:
1. Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, and make sure that it makes
good skin contact and is properly grounded.
2. Use a screwdriver to loosen the captive screws on the blank filler
panel of the fan tray slot, and then remove the blank filler panel.
See callout 1 in Figure 3.
3. Unpack the
fan tray.
4. Holding the fan tray with both hands with the upside (marked with
an air flow sign) on top, gently push the fan tray into the slot along
the guide rails until the fan tray completely seats into the slot. See
callout 2 in Figure 3.
5. Use a Phillips
screwdriver to fix the captive screws on the fan tray
to secure it into the switch chassis.
6. When the switch is running, check the status LED of the fan tray. If
the LED displays green, the installation is correct.

NOTE:
If you insert the fan tray with the upside facing downward, you
cannot completely insert the module into the slot. If this happens,
pull the fan tray out and then insert it again with the upside on
top.
If you cannot fix the captive screws, check whether the fan tray is
correctly installed.
Replacing a fan tray
CAUTION:
When you replace a fan tray from a running switch, be cautious
of electricity hazards, and do not touch the rotating fan to avoid
bodily injury.
After you unplug a fan tray from a running switch, install a new
fan tray within eight minutes to ensure proper ventilation and heat
dissipation of the switch.
When the fan tray is faulty, you must replace it.
To replace a fan tray:
1. Prepare an antistatic bag for the removed fan tray.
2. Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, and make sure that it makes
good skin contact and is properly grounded.
3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the captive screws of the fan tray. See
callout 1 in Figure 4.
4. Holding th
e handle of the fan tray, pull the module out of the
chassis. See callout 2 in Figure 4.
9
5. Put the removed fan tray into the antistatic bag.
6. Install a new fan tray. For more information, see “Installing a fan
tray.”

NOTE:
If you replace a fan tray from a running switch, and the airflow
direction of the new fan tray is different from the former one, the
alarm message System fan airflow direction is not preferred on
slot X, please check it. appears. To eliminate the alarm, replace
another fan tray with the same airflow direction, or use the fan
